I understand now what you want to do, and you may be doing it the hard way, I think a simple email change will take care of it, but it would depend on what you want/expect to happen:

With your proposal, remember that account-merging the old>into>the>new will transfer ownership of the old account files (et al) into the new account, and when done the old email gio account will be auto-deleted, you don't have to do that yourself.? So in this case, the files would display as being uploaded from your new email account.? (Only in the activity log there will be historical entries showing the original old email address, no choice in this regardless of method)?

Is this what you want to happen?? If yes, skip the process you describe and just do a simple email change, a lot easier.? If no, what do you want to take place then?
