Your own preferences for your own account don't affect the group settings.

Just change (at least for testing purposes ) in your Account (your name, top right corner). Website Preferences.
This is just a change for your account. You can try to see if you can do what you want and then change it back!?
Will only affect you.

I just tried. Made some text red, chose fonts, etc.
Then changed it back in my own preferences to plain text. It stuck. I can still see the nice formatting!

BTW, I am using a MacBook Pro too, 13 inch - OS 10.15.2
Safari - Version 13.0.4?

Re: #featurerequest Request for Cover Image caption #featurerequest

Paul M.,

Apparently my group's message formatting choice of 'text only' DOES
affect the Wiki Editor.
Not reproduced in my test group.

Changing your Editor Preference on the Preferences page of your Account /will/ affect the creation of new Wiki pages (sets the format of that page).

Clicking on the hamburger menu to show advanced formattng in the Wiki
Editor for a Home page I created shows a second line of formatting but
that line is missing the dropdowns for font, points (size), and for
text color, and highlighting (background color).
I think this may relate to screen width, as Bruce suggested.

Now that I know this I can live with it.

And once again, thanx for all the good advice, Bruce. I learned a lot.

It was probably done by forcing the mime type, which frankly isn't that reliable, either.

The behavior on sending a binary data stream depends on file type, in association with client-side configuration/add-ons. For example, if I click on a PDF file from the Files area, it also opens in my browser; and we recently had a thread here about the CSV file being displayed instead of opening a download dialog box when you export your member list.

However, this should probably be revisited. HTML5 introduced the "download" attribute for the <A> tag in 2015, and I suspect most browsers are now supporting it.?

Re: Save a picture from PHOTOS

It would be interesting to know how Yahoo did this. That was one thing that worked very well. Clicking on the little download icon on a thumbnail image would bring up the file saving dialog. It took very little effort to save photos from the web site.

Yes, that's the way it works here.? At one time, it was changed to attempt to actually download a photo, but it broke most (all?) of the browsers that use the Firefox base, so was reverted to this version.

Without turning this into a "me too" movement of a different sort, I'd like to add my voice to Sandy's. As a "tech dunce," the transition of our group of friends to Groups.io was almost seamless?and surprisingly effortless. Many thanks to the folks at GIO who jumped in and rescued us where the Yahooians threw us overboard.

Happy 2020 to all; may the year bring us some 20/20 clarity about our respective nations and the world in general.

On my Mac, I can download the photo (save image to downloads or somewhere else. / some other folder) Or add image to Photos. Or copy the address or the image. Or share.

But usually I want to put the photo in my Photos application.

It depends on what you mean by Private.? If you mean "private messages", no one but members can read the messages, but can find it in the site Directory, /search.? If you mean "Group not listed in directory", then no one can find it in the site Directory, so you'd have to use one of the methods Bruce mentioned.

June -- It's really pretty much the same for any group; the only thing the Private setting does is keep your group from showing up in the groups.io directory/search engine of available groups.

Four options:
  1. Go to?/g/GROUPNAME?and click the "Join This Group" button
  2. Send an email of any kind to [email protected]
  3. Respond to an invitation sent by you (/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Inviting-new-members)
  4. If your group is on the Premium payment plan, you can Direct Add people (/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Direct-Add-Members)

How does someone find and join a group which is currently listed as Private?? I have just set up a test group and need a few people to join for testing.? Do I need to send invites to all those I want to join for now?

Frances

The john.doe section of the e-mail is the member who posted the message requiring approval.? All I have done is Reply and Send to the approval needed message.? Looking at their message activity it shows their postings, plus a line showing the approval by a moderator.

The work-round, as also mentioned by Bruce is to approve on the website, so I shall use that in future.

Thanks for the help

Steve -- This is something of a guess, but...

There's a bug in the way btinternet handles emails sent to the +owner address. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/34125793#18881?for details.

When responding to a moderation message, be sure to select just Reply,?not Reply All. Or use the webmail interface for moderation activity.

Hope this helps,

Puzzling! The group should not see behind the scenes!
When ?moderating by email, you just need to click to reply to your email without adding anything.
And, a problem I have, be sure to select the correct email address for sending my blank reply.

Perhaps you are actually adding a new post inadvertently. Is the John.Doe address you?
Check out what is happening in Admin, Activity.?
And in John.Doe's account through Admin, Member, activity.

This works fine on an iPad (9.7 inch) on both mobile and desktop version.?

But not on my iPhone 11, not in either orientation.?

Looks like we'll just have to live with that if we want to keep 'text only' status for our group.
Aren't the only places to choose plain text -
- in Admin, Settings, Attachments - and that doesn't affect the wiki tools

- and in your subscription - in Preferences - that does affect the wiki tools.
But it is only for just your own subscription, not the group.

At least I cannot find it.

There are these:
Force HTML Emails
Make all emails HTML and remove the plain text digest option. (doesn't affect the wiki editing tools)
?
Normalize HTML Emails
Strip all different fonts and colors from HTML emails. (doesn't affect the wiki editing tools)
