There is a short (undefined!) delay between your creating a group and it becoming available for use. Groups.io goes through an approval process just to make sure that there is nothing obviously amiss with the proposed group's purpose.

(It is not a check on making sure your settings are correct; that's down to you!)

Frances,
I?ve dumped my translations in the hashtag section since we have no other use for #s.
So anyone who wants a German translation of the terms and a guide through the group?s structure can get it from me. Just ask me by pm.

Re: Multiple e-mail problem

Ginger,

If I have a Groups.io account under the "wrong" e-mail, how do I find
it?
Simple, log in to it. You may need to log out of whatever account you're currently logged into. Or open a second browser to log in with. You likely don't have a password set for that "wrong" account, so just use the link for forgotten password, or the button for emailing a login link.

When I go to the group with the "wrong" e-mail delivery, it says that
my account is my hotmail address.
That only means that you have two subscriptions to that group - one under your hotmail address and one under your "wrong" address.

Just remember that from Groups.io's point of view every subscribed email address is its own account, possibly owned by a different person.

I've subscribed to your suggested list. Thanks.
I don't see you there. I'm not sure what you did.

I'll send an invitation.

Created new group. Cant post new message/topic

I have two basic groups that I created manually. Not subgroups. The second one gave me this response when creating my first message:

"This group has not yet been approved. Once it has been approved, you will be able to post to it. "

I can't find any FAQ or other topic about approval for a manually created group.

Thanks in advance

Re: Messages to aplus.net domains not working

Rob,

But that said, I would hope spending some do-re-mi would make a
difference here.
I don't have any experience with it, but supposedly it does:
"I'm still only responding to support emails from premium group owners
right now."

The last email sent got a timeout at 8:13 pm (what timezone?), which
suggests that everything has been queued and not sent.
Timeout?!

That sounds like your email service isn't even accepting connections from Groups.io, unless it is trying to say that the retries of a message delivery expired.

Re: Is there a way to automatically respond to people posting in my old yahoo group telling them to move to groups.io? #yahoo

Edited

I kept my groups updated throughout the transfer process, then notified them when we were close to transfer that it would happen that day. Then I sent a notice saying the group has moved, etc.? One person left from one group.? I sent a notice via Yahoo groups entitled Final Notice informing them this would be the last post from the Yahoo group. I also reminded them of the reason for the move, to preserve our archives.? And stated that all future group activity and participation will be at the new groups location and I included a link.
Also, I stated that since all participation will be only at our new location, anyone who leaves the new group will also be removed from the old Yahoo group.

Actually, unless you plan to keep the Yahoo group past Dec .14, you could remove all the members.? Especially those that are still trying to post to the Yahoo group

Zelda -- If you are still not seeing any links under "View Existing Transfer Status," then Step 2 has not been completed, no matter how many times you have attempted to.

See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Step-2-E28094-Set-Up-and-Start-the-Transfer-Process?for screenshots. You have to type the Yahoo Group name into the upper box and select your destination group using the pull-down menu in the lower box.

Do you OWN the destination group? If not, you can't set up a transfer for it. Also be sure you are logged in under the email address that owns the group. If you are logged in correctly, you should see a baby-blue "owner" tag on the Home button at upper left if you visit any page in your group.

I hope something in there helps.

Bruce

Re: premium -- not premium

Yes, I did step 2 before on November 6, and just did it again this evening.

I started 3 other groups successfully.? They were smaller and I just invited each member manually.? The group I paid premium for has 480 members.

Eric -- For what it's worth, here is what I would do if I were you.

  1. Leave your existing Members group as the primary group, and leave all the content that you've already transferred there alone.
  2. Rename NAIAandNAIATrustMembers to NAIAandNAIATrust, using the instructions found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Renaming-a-Group
  3. Create a subgroup and call it Board. Its home page URL will be https://NAIAandNAIATrust.groups.io/g/Board. Emails can be sent to that group using Board(at)NAIAandNAIATrust.groups.io
  4. Having created this subgroup, your primary group is now called main. It should show up as https://NAIAandNAIATrust.groups.io/g/main.
  5. Rename your primary group from "main" to "Members." Its home page URL will now be https://NAIAandNAIATrust.groups.io/g/Members. Emails can be sent to that group using Members(at)NAIAandNAIATrust.groups.io
  6. Transfer your other Yahoo Group into NAIAandNAIATrust.groups.io/g/Board
The only downside to doing it this way is that your board members will be automatically subscribed to the Members group when you do the second transfer (step #6 above). But as Shal said earlier, you can set their subscriptions to "No Email" in the main group if they don't want to be bothered with member chit-chat.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

How do I proceed?
I thought you had already been told how to proceed.

I have one group that has been converted. There is another one that has not been converted. Both use a variant of what would be the domain name so it will have to change.
The domain name for every group here is groups.io.

NAIAandNAIATrustMembers and NAIAandNAIATrustBoard would have a domain of NAIAandNAIATrust with Members and Board being the sub-domains. So, one needs to change its name and then become a sub and the other must start the entire conversion process.
NAIAandNAIATrust will be a subdomain, if you choose to rename the current group name to that. Members and Board will be subgroups, if you decide Members must be a subgroup.

As has been said several times, under normal circumstances you would simply use the primary group for your members and not have a separate Members subgroup. If you want Members to be a subgroup, the problem here is that you've already transferred all that content to the main/primary group. There is no way to move it to a subgroup now. You would instead have to transfer it again, followed by deleting all that content from the primary group. Are you sure you really want to do that?

Please let us know what you plan to do using the correct terminology and we will help you to get there. We will need you to confirm what your main group is currently called and whether you have set up any subgroups yet.

Bruce

Re: Member message delivery problem; above my expertise to help

Paul,

Can¡¯t connect securely to this page____
I'll concur with Samuel, I've no problem using Edge to log in to Groups.io using the emailed link. I tested that again just now.

I copied the link to Firefox and get an error message I¡¯m not logged
in.
One's login is browser and device specific - it is stored in a browser cookie.

So being logged in with one browser won't carry over to another. If your browser is set to reject all cookies you won't be able to log in. If your browser or security software is set to delete cookies at the end of your session you'll have to log in again when you come back.

You can¡¯t count on your old login info working in io groups.____
Of course not. Groups.io is an independent service, any login info (ID and password) one had at Yahoo is not going to work at Groups.io.

Re: Transfer problem #transfer

Sandie,

When attempting to do begin the transfer, my Groups.io group name did
not appear in the drop down menu.
That usually indicates that you are logged into Groups.io using an email address which is not listed as an owner of that group.

While signed in, go to the group's pages and look at the Home button at the top of the list of nav buttons on the left. If you are logged in as a moderator or owner of the group there will be a badge showing your role.

The two billing screenshots could have been taken by someone who is a moderator of the group with the Billing permission. But that is not sufficient for initiating a transfer to the group.

You could try Advanced Preferences in Subscription. Just get the first message of every thread. Follow those that look interesting.

In quarantine or just dumped. If they've concluded it's spam, they could simply dump it.

It feels like [GMF} is getting at least 100 messages per day. My provider has rated it as spam a couple of times and notified Groups.io. Carrierzone could simply be dumping it.

I wonder if Groups.io should add a feature to automatically put everyone in digests when the message traffic gets this high.
