If you include Members in the transfer to the subgroup, they're added to the main group and the subgroup.

Well actually you DO have a status, and it would tell you whether the transfer agent had received the request or not. But since you already know otherwise . . .
?
What I don't understand is how the moderators here ever find the patience to deal with people who already know the answers. Then again, that's why I only post occasionally and am NOT a moderator here. These folks help everyone out a sense of support for the groups.io system, and there are times they deserve the recognition that they = do = know more than most.

Use a data type of "Link" and enter the URL as "mailto: myaddress @ domain.net" (without the quotes or spaces).

Will it be clickable?
If you do everything as I suggest above, a mouseclick on the link should open your default email client and open its message editor with the target address pre-populated in the To: field.

Okay, that makes more sense :-)

However... does that also apply when groups are being transferred from Yahoogroups?

I mean, if you try to transfer a Yahoogroup whose membership does not overlap with the IO group at all, into a subgroup of that IO group, does that mean that none of the Yahoogroup's members will be transferred?

Or does transferring into a subgroup simply automatically make those users also members of the main group?

[It's not necessarily a problem if they're not transferred along with all the group's content, because one can always direct-add or invite them manually to the main group later, right?]

Re: How much time does it take to manage a group?

Well, the members don't have very many options and they are familiar with some already.

Posting messages
Members can post messages in two ways:
  1. Via email: We can assume people know how to send an email. They just send an email to the group address and everyone will get a copy.
  2. Via the web interface: Not much different from webmail (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) or filling out a webform.
Posting photos or files
Traditionally, this used to be done by sending files to a file storage directory and photos to an album directory and then posting a message with a link to the file object or photo object. This requires some learning.

However, everyone has become so used to attaching files and photos to email that it has largely supplanted the previous means in many venues. (Photo albums still serve a useful purpose in that it's useful to have photos on the same topic from many users all populating the same album.

Receiving messages
Set the default message delivery to "Individual messages" so the users get an individual email for every posted message. Informed users who wish to have a digest (collection of messages sent less frequently) can change this setting for themselves. Informed users can also select no mail and visit the website periodically to catch up.

Searching the old messages
People forget (or never learn) this valuable approach. It's straightforward once you attempt it.

Re: (not) announcement-group

Hmm...people seem to miss my point... I have no problem with how people use the settings.

I have a problem with calling it an announcement-group when most members of the group
cannot use it to announce things at all.

Thanks for your reply, Gary.

I guess the group is going to be technical in that it is about programming and electronics. I'm not sure if that will have anything to do with managing the group? I am guessing that more experienced members will help less experienced members? So far, the replies that I have received have indicated that as the group grows (if it does) then it sort of takes care of itself? I probably didn't word that properly. As an owner I expect to have to take care of background technical issues. I expect that I will be made aware of some of those issues by members who want to do something, but find that they do not have permission to do it; which would require me to do something in the settings. Right now, I have no idea what the members may want to do.

groups.io may have to make changes to accommodate people with
disabilities, within certain guidelines:

The first three points are interesting:

*Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is being
interpreted to include websites as ¡°places of public accommodation¡±

*Websites with significant inaccessible components can be seen as
discriminatory against persons with disabilities, in violation of
Title III of the ADA

*The ADA is a strict liability law which means there are no
excuses/defenses for violations (e.g. ignorance, web developer is
working on it, etc.)

But before assuming this is the case with the situation you mentioned,
this may not apply to email FROM a website. As I read it, it looks
like it may only apply to features and material ON a website.

I still would let Mark know about it and see if anything can
reasonably be done.

Re: premium -- not premium

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Are you sure?

I have several Premium groups. They have all been transferred.

Since then, I've made 3 sub-groups in one of the Premium groups and am trying to transfer three Yahoo groups into the subgroups of the same name as the Yahoo ones.
I've sent [email protected] two invitations to join each group.

No response.

Each group needs to be upgraded to premium for a transfer. The only exception - you can make a Yahoo Group into a subgroup of another Groups.io group. However anyone who is a member of the subgroup has to be a member of the main group only. So figure out if that would work.

It is a group that is "premium", not a user. Premium doesn't apply to the account of the owner of the group.

So, if you have more than one group, and you upgraded to "premium" only once, then only one of those groups are now a premium group, and thus only one of them qualify for premium treatment (such as transfer from Yahoogroups).

As far as I know, there is no discount for multiple groups with the same owner.

[I seem to recall something about being able to transfer more than one Yahoogroup group into the subgroups of a single parent Groups.io group for the price of just one premium package, but I can't find the URL for that right now.]

Thank you for your reply Frances.

I am trying to learn the technical vocabulary for setting up a group. I really do not understand many of the options, yet. I will learn them. The?Settings - customizing your group: section of the link you sent is just the type of thing I need right now. ;-D

There is a lot to process because it is all so brand new to me.
