A few basic questions about groups.io
Greetings,
Our listserv is in the wave of YahooGroup exiles. ?I have a few questions about the groups.io product, as we decide what makes most sense for us.
?
1.?I am happy to see we can transfer the archive of old message postings from YahooGroups to io.groups as part of the migration. ?I also see we can download the (newly) transferred archive. ?What form/format is that in when I download it? ?How can it be read?
?
2. ?If our ?io,groups members want to just use the service to send from and receive in their email program, is that possible, or do users have to use the web interface?
?
3. ?If we use the io.groups migration service year one, I understand the annual fee is $220. ?Then can we go back to free in subsequent years?
?
Thank you in advance,
? ?Lisa

Re: Q about finding a particular member
Have you tried the exact email address in the Members search box?

Re: To spend more $$$ we need more data on rate of que processing?
I had to move two groups and one has moved even though it took about 10 days. Done perfectly.
The second one is in queue and moving forward slowly.
The slow speed is obviously due to expedited move requests.
We have to understand that the additional fees is to provide expedited service and many who chose are quite happy.
Yahoo group email distribution is still working. December 14 is the drop dead date for losing archived messages, photos and other files.
Mark has promised to get all requests received by Dec 1 to accomplish the transfer.
And GIO is working hard to address the crunch.
Let us have some patience.
?
Happy customer!

Re: The Hashtags feature is part of which plan?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSusan: Here's my take on hashtags. They are a way to categorize relevant posts and help elevate them to viewers. While?viewers could do a search of all the posts¡ªdepending on the word or phrase¡ªthey could end up pulling up a lot of irrelevant results.? Another feature of hashtags is you can designate aliases and point them to the primary hashtag.? This can be very useful with acronyms.? I don't know what focus your group has, but with mine (use of keywords and other embedded photo metadata for images) there are lots of acronyms.? I've been designating hashtags, but haven't given the members permission to do this... yet. I'm considering, which is why I asked if this was limited to a plan, as I didn't want to get invested if I was going to have to drop this feature later.? Does that help? Re: Personalgroupware (PG Offline)
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAlex: If?info@... didn't work, did you try?wilson@...? From my interactions, I'm guessing this is a one-person operation, so it's possible he might be traveling, etc. Or he might be innundated with questions, giving the changes going over at Yahoo (creating an increase in interest).? What questions did you have? There has been a lot of talk on this forum, so most of your concerns may have already been addressed.? I had one issue when first launching, and got a response within 24 hours.? Given the 14 day trial period, and the following note reported here on this forum, I'd say download and kick the tires: "Something you should also consider is that PGO will not hold your data hostage. When the trial expires you will still be able to read, sort & search your messages as usual. You will not be able to download any new messages but that doesn't sound like it's going to be an issue for your group. All your group members can download PGO, import your edited archive and then use PGO indefinitely for free." HTH David On 2019-11-04 15:26, Alex Maddocks wrote:

Re: Yahoogroups claims I have no data???
I was logged into the only account I have - my? yahoo address, and had accepted their TOS. However, the address I have on the list is a different one, and I don't have access to it anymore. Could that be why?? What if I go change the address to the current one? Will I then be able to download or is the problem on their end? Cindi

Re: The Hashtags feature is part of which plan?
I am not a hashtag user. Can someone explain what the purpose is and is it necessary for a chat list? If so why? I don't use them and I have many older, retired people on the list that I am sure would be confused. I didn't want to frustrate them so I didn't click on the hashtag permission part.
Thank you, Susan? |

Re: Yahoogroups claims I have no data???
I got the same thing when I tried. Just more crappy Yahoo system nonsense. I have a Yahoo building near me and you can see all these people in meeting rooms all day. I have no idea what they talk about in there, but it definitely isn't quality standards. I think they just live in their little isolated corporate bubble.

Re: Q about finding a particular member
If you go to admin, click on members, any new book pending approvals Will be listed under pending at the very top. Then you will be able to click on their email address, and it will bring up all the different options that you can do what their membership such as approving.

At the same time, one of the things I hated about my last job is whenever there was a crisis, our management would ask for daily status reports, formatted a certain way, etc. and we had to come to a meeting at the end of the day equipped with a PowerPoint presentation. This seriously obstructed progress in getting the actual work done, and I'd hope groups.io does not adopt the same business model. This too will pass, although sometimes things pass like a kidney stone. I encourage more people who complete this Easy[?] Group Transfer process to continue to come here and report their satisfaction with how things went.? Regards, Bruce |

Q about finding a particular member
I just got up and running on my group early this AM and want to find a particular member and not finding out how and where to look them up.
I go to members under Admin and only have one pending approval. Tried entering info on member address in search box with and without % at the end like Yahoo but that did not bring them up. Tried looking under Directory and get boxes for each member with picture icon, name and button to email but that is totally useless with almost 1300 members to track someone down. Thanks James C.
