The data for all the groups you belong to comes in one zip file (almost 1 GB for me), with sub-folders for each group, further divided into sub-folders for messages, files, photos, links etc.

Chris -- Do you have recent evidence that content ownership is truly lost if someone joins the GIO group early...despite using the correct Y!G email address? If that is true, Mark has stated that would be a bug in the transfer process (Ref:?), and it needs to be reported to him.

The only things I know for sure would be affected by joining early is:
1) the [vanity] join date and
2) the subsequent interleaving of message numbers.

Re: Subgroups and Premium

Fatty Cuts,

Do all of the subgroups you create under a main group get covered under the main group's premium payment?

Yes.

Even as relates to transfers, see FAQ item 4(a), but not in regard to the expedite fee.

Subgroups and Premium

Do all of the subgroups you create under a main group get covered under the main group's premium payment?? ?Or do you have to purchase separately for each sub-group?

Unless it is edited between times then that is correct.

Reading between the lines what you intend is that there should be a message sent every month with new material in it set up and sent by the new owner.

Looking at the sample list of standard per group email addresses above (see Frances's post) which address do you think is the correct one? If it helps, cross - reference with your expiring Yahoo list of equivalents for a clue.

Re: "Average Pace" of transfers

Woohoo!? Last night there were 19 groups ahead of us, this morning, 0.? It took 15 days from start to finish (began on 10/20).

Do you have evidence for that, or is it just a logical assumption. I

I accepted their TOS early on, when first required. So that's not the
issue in my case.

Re: Transfer from YahooGroups to Groups.Io #transfer

Check the red status box on top of the transfer page. If it says to send the invite, do it again. One you do, keep that page up until they accept it.

I didn¡¯t realize that my sent invite was lost in space at some point, and lost of week waiting for it.

CL,

I wrote:

I don't recall if it was the -subscribe request (spoofed From the
Groups.io posting address, courtesy of my Yahoo Mail account) or the
invite that worked.

It was the invite. The confirmation request for the -subscribe did come through eventually, but I was impatient and succeeded with the Invite before then.
In the case of an invite it would be important to check the "Add only to mailing list" box to avoid the need to associate it with a Yahoo ID (account).
?
The result is a bit ugly though, as the messages come through with the
Groups.io footer appended below the Yahoo Group footer.

Another ugliness is in the Pending page, where the Yahoo Group messages all list a long -sentto address as the sender of the message. But that's seen only be me (the approving mod) so not a big deal.

One defect is that owing to how Yahoo Groups mungs the from address, putting the posting member's email address in the clear in the Display Name part of the From field, the posting member's full email address displays at the top of each message. This may be a fatal flaw for the experiment.

BTW I'm doing this experiment as a possible way to continue publicly archiving messages in that Yahoo Group, which intends to stay at Yahoo even after the December 14th cutoff. No members there but me.

Which is a different motive than covering posts in the interim between initiating a transfer and its completion. But it should work all the same. Your mileage may vary as to its suitability for your purpose.

Re: What are the email addresses I should use?

I think the monthly message was the same very month, and I assume it will be that way on groups.io. What it will say depends on who is in charge of the group. I have determined that will not be me. But the man who is giving up the group said he is asking some friends about taking over.?

Re: What if you don't want to pay for expedited transfer?

Okay, thanks. Well, then I can't do it.?

I have the messages in my daily digests in emails, but they'll just be harder to find.

Logical assumption. How else would Yahoo know which groups to download?

I had several identity addresses that I used to sort out emails from different groups. Some were Yahoo and others weren't. That did not cause any issues.??My download included all of my groups that I still belong to.

(FYI: The download also included files and photos that were uploaded after the supposed October 28 deadline.)

Re: Transfer from YahooGroups to Groups.Io #transfer

I suspect that your original invitation from Yahoo Groups to the Groups.io transfer email address was never sent by Yahoo Groups (in my experience with transferring 19 groups, I have found that 3 out of 10 invitations fail because Yahoo Groups is so flaky. If I were in your shoes, I would re-send the invitation from the Yahoo Group immediately.?

Re: Yahoogroups claims I have no data???

I logged in with my Yahoo ID when requesting the Yahoo groups data download. My default email address is at gmail.com
After 8 days, I receive notification that my Yahoo groups data is ready for download today. As far as I can tell, I see data from all the groups I belong to, not just the ones I manage. For those who got no data, perhaps try again?

Does this not overlook the possibility of simple human error? The sentence would then read Then no Board member should post on the wrong one.

It only needs a momentary loss of focus to send a sensitive post to the wrong place, especially if all it needs is to select the wrong email address. Opportunities for human error may be reduced, but they cannot be eliminated altogether.

Re: Syncing new messages from Yahoo to Groups.io after group transfer #yahoo

CL,

I've thought of directly adding the Groups.io group address to the
Yahoo group, but it looks like Yahoo is requiring a Yahoo ID for that
now.
I was able to do this.

One key is to check the "Allow Non Subscribers to Post" box in the Groups.io group. That does mean that I need to approve all such posts, but because the Yahoo Group is not a member of the Groups.io group the original poster's From information comes through in the display name of the message. Also, there is no chance of a message loop.

I don't recall if it was the -subscribe request (spoofed From the Groups.io posting address, courtesy of my Yahoo Mail account) or the invite that worked. In the case of an invite it would be important to check the "Add only to mailing list" box to avoid the need to associate it with a Yahoo ID (account).

The result is a bit ugly though, as the messages come through with the Groups.io footer appended below the Yahoo Group footer.

I would rather have used an Email Integration address than the group's posting address for this, to avoid the moderation requirement, but Yahoo Groups called the coded integration address Invalid and wouldn't let me invite it, nor respond to it when it tried to -subscribe.
