TRANSFER EMAIL INVITE to YAHOO GROUP DELAY . . .
Needing some help understanding . . .
We do understand that there are currently certain problems on both ends (i.e., GIO and Y!G). Those problems may cause delays in either sending an invite from Y!G or receiving the acceptance email from the GIO Transfer 'member'. Our situation is that it took quite a number of tries (like 9 times) to send an invite from our YGroup before our YG finally confirmed that the Invite was successfully sent (to transfer @ groups.io). Now we're wondering how long we ought to wait for an acceptance email to show up (without one arriving) before sending out another Invite. Our intent was to make the transfer email a Moderator of our YG and then wait a few days before upgrading our new GIO group to Premium while we are finishing deciding on the settings for the new GIO group. Does this last bit sound doable? Comments . . . Suggestions . . . TIA Paul M Moderator/Owner Madrono Moms Group == |
Re: Resizing photos?
Lynne, ? I have transferred 19 lists since January 2018, all of them I set the max image size to 1024 x 1024 pixels.? This provides a full height image on my 32" monitors. The last list I transferred went from 3 GB photo storage on YG to 500MB? on groups.io, 75 -80% reduced storage has been typical; you should be able to store about 10,000 images on a free list if you select the same max image size for photos, files, messages, etc... ken clark www.shastasprings.com 3a. |

Whether an Owner / Moderator replies to a "Subscription Approval Needed" message has no effect on a "Pending Subscription Notice" message. If an Owner / Moderator wishes to prevent another Owner / Moderator from approving the Subscription by email, they must "Claim" that Subscription request. This can be done by clicking on "View Pending Member" in the "Subscription Approval Needed" message Then click on "Claim Sub" at the bottom of that Pending Member's webpage (in your groups Admin > Members > Pending Approval webpage) Now only that Owner / Moderator who 'Claimed the Sub' can approve by email, all other Owners / Moderators (with appropriate permissions) can only do so at your groups Admin > Members > Pending Approval webpage where it says "Claimed by your name" in a blue badge next the Pending Member's email address. Thanks everyone for the detailed explanations about the nuances of the Pending Subscription notice. This has been very helpful and I now understand what my new members will see.?
I'm going to keep my Pending Subscription notice active because it is a real time-saver for me. I'll help any new member that is confused by the two notifications. Jesse |

Yes, that is correct interpretation of my issue. Apparently the new group has to be "approved" before it is permitted to have subgroups. At least that is the current thinking. Will post verification when/if it is finally resolved. Regards, Steve On 2019-11-01 14:32, Frances wrote:

Re: Able to edit reject message heading?
Sally,
When rejecting a pending message on the web you would need to copy the text before hitting Reject, then paste it into the box. I think if you use the drop-list to fill in one of the saved Rejected Message texts that will wipe out anything in the box, so paste after selecting your template text. You don't really need to include the original message text, in most circumstances, as the rejection notice carries with it an attached copy of the original message.
When rejecting by email the text of whichever Member Notice of type Rejected Message is marked active is included in the rejection notice sent to the member. If you have none set up the member receives only the boilerplate notice, with their original attached. This behavior, if accurately described, also makes me wonder if the group setting for "allow posts by non-members" was changed to disallow it while these messages were still in Pending. Re: Email addresses
So groups.io allows you to add additional email aliases to your account allowing any of them to post.
Yahoo did this as well, but allowed you to associate different aliases for delivery from different groups. Apparently groups.io does not. Where do I put feature requests for this (granted Yahoo's collapse probably puts that into late 2020 or 2021). Note that using email filters does not work when you want to direct emails to different actual email accounts, e.g. to work, to home private, to gmail. In the meantime, using multiple accounts, one per destination mailbox, subscribed as necessary, perhaps with one account for Admin of all groups, with all but moderator messages turned off for that account, is probably the best solution.? Makes for lots more groups.io accounts however, so maybe implementing the group.sendto.alias functionality is more desirable for the groups.io maintainers. Regards, Steven Deller |
Re: What is the best practice for Pending Subscription notices for a restricted group

You get an acceptance to Groups.io, but not to the specific group. When someone applies for membership through the group home page, they receive both the automatic confirmation and the Pendiing subscription notice. The receipt of those two messages occurs without the member or the moderator taking any action or responding to any message.I thought that the Pending Subscription notice is not sent until after the user confirms their email address. But that doesn't match what I'm seeing. For the purpose of these tests, I'm being both the prospective member and the moderator so that I can control the test. I agree it is confusing. I tested it to see if I could get in before I had approved my test email account in my group. I got that error message. The new email address could not access the group. And I used the "send me a link to login" link since I hadn't done anything with that address before. If you didn't approve the "person" i.e. the new email address, as a member, try to have them join again. I did it using the subscribe email address from the group homepage. Since the "person" has an email address known to Groups.io, you probably won't get the intermediary email about joining Groups.io But bottom line, they can't start posting or looking at your message archive until after you have approved them. Jesse, I thought that the Pending Subscription notice is not sent until after the user confirms their email address. But that doesn't match what I'm seeing. It differs based on whether the person uses the home page button or the email +subscribe command. With the +subscribe command the confirmation is required first because the incoming +subscribe might be coming from a spammer or virus spewing messages to every address they've scraped from the web. So weeding those out first seems sensible. With the home page button there's much more confidence that the action isn't being taken by a spammer or other robot, so the Pending Member notice is sent promptly to help move things along. This has been debated a few times in beta, with some people more concerned about the apparent inconsistency, and others more concerned about not putting delays in the process. Re: Able to edit reject message heading?
From Juulz:?I am able to edit my rejected message subject. I actually liked the wording - I just added our group name, saved it and it stuck.
Able to edit it where/how? Saved it where? In the rejection message? It can be done when sending a message to the member, but then the original message is not included, and the footer gets added on. If you have figured out a way to do it, I would love to know. Thank you I did create a couple rejection notices as per Shal, but the subject lines of those can't seem to be changed when sending the actual notice. Thanks, Sally |

No Email. That way you have a backup, alternate way to access the list, just in case something happens to the other address. Also a good idea to have at least one other person who is a co-owner. Jonathan On 11/1/2019 1:49 PM, Duane wrote:

Re: Able to edit reject message heading?
Thank you Shal, that's a good workaround. One thing I noticed is it the message part can't just be left blank or it won't save. Unfortunately there is still no way to edit the subject to be able to include the original subject line but this is better than before. Thanks again for all your help! One question - is there a way to change the subject which appears whenYes. In the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page, create one or more of type "Rejected Message" - these become templates you can select from a drop-list to pre-fill that Rejection note. But to the point, the Member Notice has a Subject field that is used for the outbound notice in place of the default Subject. After you've selected one of the prepared notices you can edit the content of the Rejection box. I usually have a few prepared Notices to cover the most common reasons for rejecting a message. Those edits won't be sent, so I use that as a way to further customize the note to the case at hand. It is a hidden and clumsy way to do it, and I've suggested (in beta) improving it so you can actually see / edit the Subject when working with the Rejection dialog, but it hasn't happened yet. Shal |

Re: Claimed pending posts
Sheila, When we try to approve them, they just stay in pending and now have 'claimed by Wanda' on the right of each post title. The claim is established if a moderator edits a pending message, even if they subsequently cancel or complete the edit. How do I unclaim the posts? You don't need to. The claim is advisory - go ahead with the action you wanted. when we click the post and then click approve, the approve button greys out for a second then comes back and the posts are sitting in pending still. That definitely should not happen. I've been able to approve, reject, or edit messages
claimed
by another mod in the past. I'm not sure whether what you're seeing is some kind of glitch, or a new bug. Try another browser, or have another mod try to approve the message. If the problem persists report it to [email protected] - and be sure to give as much detail as possible, including what steps you've taken and what browser and OS you are using. Looks like io are as difficult to contact with problems as Yahoo were! ? Not even close, normally. As you might understand they're a bit swamped since Yahoo's surprise announcement. Re: Contacting Yahoo Groups to change member status
#yahoo
Jan,
Can't help with a contact for Yahoo, but I would strongly recommend that if nothing else you archive your group and content using Personal Groupware Offline (personalgroupware.com). It's the only tool I've found that seems to reliably grab Y! content.?That will give you at least a local copy of your 20-years' worth of content. In the worst case - not being able to 'unlock' the Y! group, you would then have the option of re-posting/re-uploading the content to your groups.io; not trivial, perhaps, but so much better than nothing. I've used the tool to archive a Y! group with around 1,600 members and 81,000 messages that I'm a 'normal' (i.e. not Mod or Owner) member of in case of issues around our transfer. It has a 28-day fully functional free trial period, but a license is cheap anyway. Derek Disclaimer: I have no connection with Personal Groupware other than as a satisfied and slightly relieved customer. Your Mileage May Vary. |
Re: Email addresses
Why not just use a filter on your email program to direct the

messages from different groups into different folders. (i.e. a message from this group will have the text string "[GMF]" in the subject, so I have a filter that says if that string is present in the subject of a message put it in a folder called "Groups.io Moderation". I have a few other types of messages placed in that folder as well, all having to do with moderating and running my Groups.io groups.) Your email address is your account at Groups.io, so if you change the email address used by your account it will change the delivery address for all of the groups you are subscribed to, no matter which one you thought you were changing it for. To do what I think you are talking about you would need to join each list with a different address and thus have 20 different accounts to keep track of. Much easier to use just the one address and then have your mail program sort the messages based on which group they are coming from. Jonathan On 11/1/2019 1:38 PM, Lawrence wrote:
