Re: Paid to Move but problems
?
Hi Bruce,
Thank you for your thoughts. When I began paying to upgrade my three groups on 10/21 it was my intention to make them all paid premium groups to avoid any transfer hassles and enjoy the storage benefits offered by the then $110 yearly plan.
I began these upgrades in no particular order. Two went through fine and the third did not and still will not today even at $220. In hindsight since Marks retraction on free group limits one of my groups could have remained 'free' until the dust settled. However the one group that could have remained free is one that's aleady paid for.
The third group which must be paid due to storage limit is still in free status. When I try to upgrade it today even at $220 the transaction will not be accepted on two valid credit cards that paid for each of the two paid for groups.
Both of my banks see no reason for these sales have not to gone through. The consensus is whoever Mark at Groups.io uses for a payment processor which could be STRIPE.COM based upon domains I see flash by in my browser when trying to pay may like people to make multiple payments of the same amount ($110) to the same vendor ie: Groups.io in a short period of time as I tried on 10/21 10/22 and 10/23 and could have locked me out.
Sad part is if STRIPE.COM is where the problem lies they will only talk to the vendor Groups.IO and I cannot talk to Groups.io to ask them to? investigate or manually process my payment for the third group.
Meanwhile I have two of my three groups in the migration queue and the one group I've been begging to pay for since 10/21 languishes in free mode all the while getting further back in the migration queue since 10/21/19. I've sent detailed email(s) to [email protected] since Monday 10/21 and tried to call leaving my phone number in both cases and no response as of 6PM EDT Wed 10/23, not even a 'bot' acknowledging receipt of my inquiry.
Mark, please take my money. I am sure it will help :-)
Thanks for reading,
Charlie

Re: Paid to Move but problems
Yes! Please see my follow up post in this thread as I am reading these out of order. Under the threat of multiple deadlines spiraling out of our control on Monday 10/21 I began changing my three existing 'free' groups at IO to 'premium' at the then $110 rate. The
first two processed find and I received an 'invoice' from groups.io
showing they were paid. When I got my third group having done these in
no particular order, the payment for that group would not go through. I
tried multiple cards, call both banks who said there weren't seeing any
problems on their end. I stayed up all night in to the morning trying
to pay for my third group until 0900 PDT on 10/22 when the price for the
third group that IO wouldn't let me pay for prior to 0900 PDT
'deadline' on 10/22 doubled to $220. Out of desperation I tried paying for the third group again at the $220 price while on the phone with my bank and again the payment was declined, I repeated this process with the 2nd card and while on the phone with the other?? bank and inexplicably that payment was also declined. Sad part is had it not been
for the sudden announcement of draconian changes to Groups.io 'free'
groups which was later recanted and the doubling of the cost for Premium
groups I could have done things in a different order. Under
the old, then changed then back to old again rules I could have left at
least one of my groups 'free' on IO. But when Mark announced the (later
retracted) 500 member limit I panicked. Now the third group which must be premium cannot be paid for at any price let alone the $110 I should have been able to pay on 10/21/19. I
wrote and tried to call [email protected] for going on three days and
nights begging them to take my money but no response or recourse
available as of 445 PM EDT 10/23/19. Thank you for reading, Charlierailscan@...

That's very disappointing. You say 'currently', is that because it is high on the wish list to be implemented. It kind of sounds obvious as the feature is there for photos?

Re: Paid to Move but problems
Sounds like a similar thing is happening to me, I was able to transfer 2 out of 3 groups before the Groups.io system would not accept a payment. This has been going on since 10/21 when the price was still $110. As of 10/23 I am still unable to pay Groups.io for my third group even though the price has doubled since I had successfully paid for my first two at $110 and attempted the third and was declined using the same credit card(s). All payment methods I tried using over the past two days and nights were confirmed GOOD by my bank who didn't even see the transaction from Groups.io hit them let alone anything being declined, the bank only sees the two good group payments. I cannot reach anyone at Groups.io via e-mail or the phone number on the two paid invoices which has an 'unmonitored' voice mail message that tells me to use email to contact them at [email protected] I left my phone number in my email to [email protected], no call back yet. . I am feeling quite screwed now and the first two groups are useless on IO without the third regardless of price. Thanks for reading, Charlie railscan@...

Re: Transfer ? - Members Jumping the Gun
You might consider using 1 moderated message instead of 3. You can
probably figure out if the person is questionable on the first post and set them to moderated if you have concerns. This means you only have to reply to their first message to moderate it so it posts. If you have, say, 1,000 members, for example, that's 2,000 less moderations you'll have to do. I do agree that at least the first post should be moderated, though. And depending on your group 3 times might be appropriate, but in my experience, I catch the spammers the first time. The rest of the "problem" posts are from people who hijacked someone's email account. Or, on Yahoo, where it was possible at one time (at least, if not still) to spoof an email address (easy but I won't give directions here), people could spoof an email address, making it appear to come from a member's address. That happened on a few occasions well after the 3 moderations would have happened. Depending on your group, you can also make it easier on yourself for new members to join automatically by not making it a restricted group. Of course, that depends on the nature and substance of your group. If it discusses medical issues, for instance, you would want to restrict entry into the group and use a questionnaire to ferret out people who should not be members. If you have a restricted group and have to approve new members, but don't use some additional step to verify the quality of the prospective member, you're wasting your time since you can't tell by an email address (in most cases) if they're good or bad. Just my 2 cents, subject to inflation.
