Not normally, but since you have no members yet, I bet if you email Mark with the request he can make it happen. I would contact him at the support address,?

Re: Reply links and Thunderbird

The user has suggested a new message delivery option he would prefer, a form of digest where it only sends emails once a day or so (as with the digest), sorted by thread, but as individual emails not a single digest email.

Re: Reply links and Thunderbird

The original user has experimented further:

> When reading a mail in the digest, below the mail is a list of links including 'reply to group' which shows a sensible link in the bottom margin but seems to result in no action (hence my request).? Having dug deeper if I make right click it gives a submenu including 'compose message to' which works but seems unable to include highlighted text (though copy paste is easy).? The similar 'reply to sender' works in the same way.?

The failure to include highlighted? text is as mentioned, but is having to right click to reply a bug?

Noel

Re: Reply links and Thunderbird

Further input from another user:

> Further experiment shows that using the links on the email:
a) provides no quoting context
b) uses the wrong (default) persona for the reply

> So it is not worth using the links on the email - use Thunderbirds own reply method.

The original user was replying to a digest so the option to reply directly will not be available.

Noel

Re: Reply links and Thunderbird

I use Thunderbird, and used the "Reply to Group" link to send this message.

Re: Message Time Zones #timezone

Taffman,

At the moment all messages appear to be set to Pacific Time. Is there
any way to select another time zone like GMT or UTC?
All messages where? As was noted in the beta@ thread, messages seen on the web site are controlled by each member's timezone setting.

In the message list of an email interface the timezone would likely be controlled by an option in that email user interface.

Re: Does Groups.io have a "Join Now" logo that can be placed on a website like Y! Groups has?

John,

... I've been trying find a "Join the Groups.io" page logo so we
could switch over. What I have right now doesn't look good.
Is there one setup for Groups.io?
In the Admin group of links on the left of your group's pages there is a Promote page. It has a tool to create HTML for a Signup form. Alas, it is rather plain looking (no groups.io logo), but I suppose that's an opportunity for the group to place its own logo instead.

Reply links and Thunderbird

One of our users has reported that he can't get any of the reply links in messages to work using Thunderbird. I can't see anything about this in the message archive, and several people seem to use Thunderbird, is anything known?

Groups.io site updates #changelog

Hi all,

This week's change log:

Feel free to reply to this topic if you'd like to comment on the changes. Or better yet, if you expect a lot of discussion start a new topic (or rejoin an existing one) about a specific change.

* Section in help listing all available email commands.

For the benefit of all your email-only members out there - these are mostly the subscription changes they can make without logging in to the site. It is at the bottom of the FAQ section, use the link in the left column of the help page to go directly there.

I think there are a few commands missing from that list, specifically to address the advanced subscription options.

* Custom search ranges in new search.
* Ability to exclude signatures from [new] search, and lowered their rankings in relevance searches.

I'm loving the new Tools button as an expander for a set of search result filters. I'd like to see that grow into a comprehensive collection of filters.

The metadata filters (date is the only example so far) I'd like to see in a similar Tools button for the full message lists (Messages, Topics, Expanded, Polls) and for other lists as well (Photos, Files, etc.).

* Out of Space group setting.

"What to do when the group is out of space." You have the choice of automatically deleting old attachments or bouncing new messages. I presume that refers only to messages with attachments, as otherwise messages don't count towards a group's storage limit.

I think it might be nice if there were a third setting: strip attachments - just like the Attachments option above it.

Comments about these others are also welcome:

* NEW: New search now has a 'did you mean' suggestion function.
* INTERNAL: Re-architected dumpmessages utility to be able to deal with messages and topics being deleted from under it.
* INTERNAL: More work on the API.
* CHANGE: Subgroup storage space no longer is deducted from the parent group's storage space.
* BUGFIX: Activity tab wasn't showing up for some moderators.
* CHANGE: Because Dropbox is discontinuing the V1 version of their API, which would require us to re-write our code, and because only a few people used it, removing the integration, at least for now.

Please call out any you find significant.

Re: Is there another way to start a poll?

Jeff,

I guess I can join the beta group also. So that is where bugs get
reported too then?
GroupManagersForum is a user-to-user support group, not moderated (or even subscribed to) by Groups.io personnel.

Beta is the "suggestion box" for ways to improve Groups.io - it is moderated by Groups.io personnel. Because it is an open mailing list, and not a closed box, it also acts as a "sounding board" for the suggestions, as other Groups.io users read and reply to them.

Trello is the public "to-do" list. It isn't a mailing list and no one but Groups.io can post items there. But it does help us (users) know what's being planned, or at least thought about.

Bug reports go to [email protected] - that's also not a mailing list, it is an address for private messages to Groups.io support.

If you're not sure which category something goes in, you're always welcome to kick it around here in GMF to see if any users here have some knowledge or ideas about it.

Re: Is there another way to start a poll?

If the only way to do a poll is to go into the New Topic screen, then there is no way to not create a draft message since clicking the discard buttong moves you to the chats screen, and clicking the New Poll button leaves a draft message behind.?

I guess I can join the beta group also.? So that is where bugs get reported too then?

There used to be a Poll selection on the left, but since it's really just a 'special' version of a message, it appears Mark has removed it. I hadn't noticed since we don't use them much.

If you don't use the Discard button, any New Topic or Reply will be saved as a draft, even if nothing is typed. That might be a good suggestion on the beta group. I don't think Mark follows this one and he's asked that suggestions be posted over there for discussion. Might be a bit difficult to implement for folks that use signatures though?

I know that I really appreciate Mark's efforts, as I believe many others do. Several of us have watched this site 'grow up' over the last couple of years. It amazes me how much has changed. There have been some hiccups, but overall it's great.

Duane

I am the owner of a couple of Yahoo groups.? I am playing with Groups.IO for a while to see how it works and will migrate over if this turns out to be a good fit.? So far it is.? Thanks for creating this list server!

Never mind. I clicked on "date." Never realized that affects the order of messages within a topic.
