Does the full backup from PG Offline help keep attachments? Can your service use that data to make a full transfer?

Roger -- Groups.io provides some relevant tools. There is an option on the transfer page to enter the email addresses of those who opt out of the transfer. Such subscribers are not transferred, nor is any of their content. Those who object afterward may also have all their content deleted, simply by clicking on a link.?

I believe these recent features were added at the request of groups.io legal counsel. See also?/static/compliance

Having said all that, I am not an attorney...I was not consulted on this, nor were those discussions shared with anyone outside of groups.io's inner circle. GMF is a technical support forum and we need to get back to providing that support to those who need our assistance.?

Hope this helps,

Yes, that information is stated in the transfer information, /yahootransfer under What We Transfer.

The GDPR has been hashed, rehashed, and studied by the lawyers for groups.io.? You can go back and read the discussions here and on the beta group.? There wouldn't any transfers happening if it were illegal.

OK; I won't, not least because in general terms I wholeheartedly agree.

However, I would ask you consider that a small number of hashtags for use by moderators only can be useful. One obvious possibility is #Group_Management that can be used to advise members about "management matters"; others are (for example) #Photos & #Files for use when it is desirable to advise members about (say) a reorganisation of those sections. #Group_Management has the advantage that it can be used for a range of individual details rather than having a list of hashtags for each individual detail.

Use by Mods Only is a setting "within" the hashtag that can be checked when the hashtag is created.

As Duane said their use makes finding them at a later date much easier; without them it might be nearly impossible, or at least very time consuming.?

Another downside is that hashtags in email subject lines don't actually stand out all that well in comparison to their appearance on the web UI.

I would definitely agree that allowing members free rein to create hashtags can create a situation that is #Ridiculous.

No Digest generated last night (ET)

Pablo Sanchez

Hi,

As we're recent transplants from Y!G, I've been vigilantly.

I have two email addresses subscribed to my mailing.? I noticed my?Full Digest email address did not receive a Digest this morning.? I poked around and looked at other users and noticed they had not received one either.

Did anyone else not receive a 24-hour Digest?? (Not intraday).

We only had eight messages posted from the last Digest.? This morning I tickled a Digest by running a shell script to email the list five more messages.

I know I read that yesterday there was an issue with attachments being stored in the wrong location.? I wonder if that effort caused some time stamp to get borked.

Thx!
-pablo

[Mod Note: If no additional posts are made since the previous Digest was sent, groups.io does not send an empty "overnight digest."]

You'll run into a "limit" after 20 invitations (or direct adds on a paid group) per day.? The best thing to do is send them all at once.? There will be a delay until it's approved, but then all should be done at once.

I have not yet done this myself but I believe I understand how to do it.

You did the correct thing by using the Yahoo Groups Export members in CVS. Note that only Owners and Moderators can do this.

Now, take that saved file and import it into Excel. The file will have a csv file extension in the file name. Use the Excel Open function and first change the File Type to All Files. Find the membership.csv file where you saved it, select that file name and Open it in Excel. That will open a new worksheet and enter all the columns and rows you exported from Yahoo. For clarity, widen the columns so you can see all the complete email addresses.

That will get you a worksheet with multiple columns, one for each data field and a row for each member.

Select (highlight) the *data* in the email address column and Copy it to the clipboard. Don't copy the column header if there is one.

Open Notepad, or some other text-only editor, and paste in the copied column.

You might need to manually format it so that each email address is on just one line.

Save that Notepad file. This will ensure there are no formatting characters in the saved file, which will be a .txt file. Highlight the entire document now consisting of only email addresses and Save it to the clipboard. I believe you can paste that into the Invite box of your Group at groups.io.

I'm not sure of the maximum number of invites you can have per day at groups.io so it may be necessary to break up the saved Notepad file into smaller separate files to meet the groups.io limitation.

I have successfully done all this except actually pasting the copied Notepad data into the groups.io invite form.

Gosh, I hope this is all correct! I believe it is...

?Now most of us know how to get to Management then Manage Members? I clicked on export CVS or whatever that was and what came up was yes member list? and email address but also date of join etc. How do I just do member names email address?
?Then going to IO group click on invite and paste to invite ?

You can't totally disable them.? There are some used by the system for the Calendar (and other things).? To prevent other hashtags from being created, go to your Settings page and scroll down to Message Policies.? In the box labeled Hashtag Permissions, choose the second or third option in the drop down list.? Be sure to save your changes at the bottom of the page.? As long as you don't create any hashtags, none can be used.? One item that may cause problems for people is if they happen to use the octothorpe in a subject line, such as "Test #23".? You can get around that by leaving a space "Test # 23".

As another option, you could create all the system tags and set their properties to Moderated.? That way they should end up in the pending queue and you could remove the hashtag before it's posted.? There's some discussion about this in /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/33101928

Re: DYGM AutoIt scripts (was: Yahoo transfer #transfer)

I just realised that I did not mention these three points:
1. Yahoogroups will munge e-mail addresses to e.g. yourname@..., so you won't be able to see the domains, even if you're the group owner.
2. The process breaks threading (and for some reason tells e.g. Thunderbird that some messages are part of a thread when they're not).
3. AFAIK attachments don't get included.

Prevent use of hashtags

I don't want my group's message subjects cluttered with these bandwidth wasting pieces of nonsense - they may have a place on Twitter, but not here IMHO

How do I totally disable the use of hashtags?

PS Don't try to persaude me they're wonderful - you won't

Thanks
David
