Hashtag Behaviour

The owner of the group I moderate raised a question about our monthly notice and its hashtag which I have been able to deal with, at least for now.

However, there remains an oddity that I have been unable to track down and work out.

The Monthly Notice is sent out with the hashtag #Guidelines, which is perfectly reasonable. As might be expected there is a Guidelines hashtag in the Hashtag Library. What there isn't (at least as far as I can see) is any Setting that allies this hashtag to the Monthly Notice. The hashtag is not present in the subject line of the notice itself, at least not when it is viewed in the Member Notices section.

The only thing I can see as a possibility (and it might even be a bug) is that the Monthly Notice is set to be sent as a Special Notice, and the Guidelines hashtag is also set to be sent as a special notice when used. Is it possible the Groups.io has put 2 and 2 together and come up with 4, albeit correctly in this case?

I simply cannot find where the "system" has been told to apply this hashtag to this message. I just hope the answer isn't so blindingly obvious that I ought to have found it...

Perhaps it's time for some more tests somewhere...

Re: Facebook integrations not working #bug #integration

Ditto my 1 group on the Facebook integrations. ?Removed all 5 of mine. ?Reentered 4 of them. ?Quiet as a church mouse since sometime the 27th. ?I have all 5 Facebook integrations moderated. ?

Re: Please share your database use-cases #database

Our group consist of individuals at different organizations who share a common interest. So the database lists their name, title, organization, and answers to a few questions we asked when they joined the group; reason for joining and details about specific related projects they are working on.

Please share your database use-cases #database

Hi all, could you share examples of the ways you are using the database feature?

?I haven't quite figured out its usefulness, so I'd like to hear some of your real life examples.

Thanks?

Subscription prefs not working right? #settings

in this group in my email settings ?I have selected "daily summary" and in advanced settings I selected "what I follow" (sorry if I'm not using the exact setting name, I don't have the screen in front of me right now)

but I am getting Individual emails and not a daily summary, and I am getting All emails on all threads, not just those I have followed

are these settings not playing well together?

Ideally I would get a daily summary of ?emails in the threads I follow. ?Second best would be a daily summary of all. ?

Thanks.

Victoria -- There is no convenient way to copy files in bulk. Perhaps your best bet would be to export the entire files area to your desktop (Admin>Settings>Export Group Data) then bulk-upload the files you want to copy to the new location (/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Bulk-File-Upload).

Note that by doing this, existing file ownership information would be lost.

In our case this concerns hundreds of files.
Please give some consideration to whether duplicating so many files will put your group over quota.

Hope this helps,

Re: Database import problem, now showing up wiithout a link #database

Mohnkern,

I tried to import a CSV file as a Database table, ...
Do you mean that you used the Import Rows function on the table's page?

If not, if you mean that you used Import Table on the Databases page then you've got the wrong file format. That function accepts only JSON format files. I don't know what it might do if you feed it a CSV.

But if you were actually using Import Rows then it should not have taken so long. One important factor is that the initial row of the CSV (the column headings) must match the column Names given in the table Properties.

I cancelled out and now the table is my databases, but without a link
to edit it.

Is there a way to delete it?
The Delete Table button is at the bottom of the Edit Table Properties page. The button for that page is at the top of the list of rows when you open the table.

Re: Can Members put themselves on hold?

Lavon,

Meaning they need to go a period of time without getting any mail from
the group due to a problem they are having.
Re-reading the subject of your message, you might have been asking whether the member can change that setting themselves. Yes they can.

Any member can go to the Subscription page, near the top of the links in the left column, and choose their own Email Delivery option. See also:

If a member needs or wants your help with that you can do it for them. Find the member in your group's Members list (use the Search box if you have a lot of members).

Then you can put a check in the box on their row and use the Actions menu (at the bottom of the page) and select Change Email Delivery. In the Pop-up dialog choose No Email, or Special Notices Only, and click the Change button.

Or, you can click on their row (somewhere aside from the checkbox) and that will open their Membership page. Scroll down to their Email Delivery section then choose the appropriate setting. Then scroll to the very bottom and click the Save button.

When they are ready to resume receiving messages you can repeat those steps to restore their preferred active delivery setting.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "on hold", but if you're referring to group messages being sent to them by email the only thing you can do is change a group setting so that no one can choose "No Email" (check the Disable No Email box, in the Message Policies section).

The member can still choose Special Notices Only, or one of the other Email Delivery options though.

Myself, I think attempting to force or require that members receive email from the group is futile (and ultimately makes the group management seem foolish and/or overbearing). The member can always set a filter in their email service, and there's not a thing the group management can do about that.

Re: Moderation and Records of Editing #moderation

Gerald,

Is there any record of edits made to moderated posts?
Apparently not.

All I can find is a record saying that a post was approved.
You mean a record in the group's Activity log, correct?

I was expecting to see some record in the approved post to let readers
know that this was not necessarily what the original poster wrote.
In Yahoo Groups there are the two header fields in messages received by email (oddly, only the Approved field shows in the View Source in the web interface):

X-eGroups-Edited-By: [mod]
X-eGroups-Approved-By: [mod] via web; [date]

Groups.io has no equivalent for either field, nor does it mark the message body in any way. Early on in beta I suggested including something like the header fields, but that met push-back from others.

This is unlike the case with messages edited after posting (if that's allowed by the group). Such messages when re-sent to the group contain a note at the top:

[Edited Message Follows]

Re: Facebook integrations not working #bug #integration

Thanks, Shal.
I tried removing the integration and then adding it again, and I couldn't do that, so it's obviously related to the other problem of not being able to add Facebook integrations.
I'll report it as a bug, as you suggested.

Re: Adding new FB Integrations - "That name does not appear to be the name of a Facebook Page"

Yes I'm now having this problem. I already posted about the fact that I'm no longer getting Facebook integration messages. In order to try and sort it, I removed one of my integrations and then tried to add it back and it wouldn't let me. I got the same message as you. That was a Facebook page that had been working fine as an integration until 3 days ago.
I'm in the UK,? in case that's relevant.

Re: #howto #reply-to-group #reply-to-group #howto

Theo,

1. Messages in pending Many messages in pending becomes difficult. But
once a message is in the pending panel, the only way out appears to
be approve, reject or delete. There appears to be no way to move a
message to the messages panel.
Approve /is/ how you "move" a message from Pending to Messages. But if you're looking for a way to do that without having the message sent out to the members who receive email, no that's not a supported feature.

If you generally want replies to go to the message Sender and not the group, you can do that using the Reply To control in the Message Policies section of the group's Settings. But that will exclude the reply from the Messages pages as well.

Members who want to receive the first message in a new topic, but not the replies, can use the Message Selection option in the Advanced Preferences section of their Subscription to receive Following Only plus First Message Also. You can set that for individual members via the Members list. You can make it the default for new members via the Default Sub Settings tab in your group's Settings page.

I looked into setting up a [email protected] type subgroup for
replies but could not get that going.
Subgroups work very much the same as primary groups, with only differences relating to membership requirements.

Possible solution: Special address in reply to moderators group or
special sender email address where members can see all the reply
messages.
I'm not at all clear on what you are trying to achieve. Maybe with further information I can make a better suggestion.

Re: Facebook integrations not working #bug #integration

jakkdaw,

I have received no integration Facebook posts since 28th August on
either group. I usually receive around 6 a day, and I know that there
have been some posts on at least one of the Facebook pages.
There was a recent changelog entry which may relate.

INTERNAL: Updated Facebook API integration to use their latest
version.
/g/GroupManagersForum/message/18495

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a known reason or solution,
or do I need to report it as a bug?
I don't use Facebook integrations, so I don't know whether this change should have fixed something or maybe broke something. Or maybe all you need to do is refresh or reestablish the integration somehow. Reporting it to [email protected] might be the best option.
