Re: Message History
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Lavon,Personally, I find the *message history* the point of having a group :) It gives me a way to see how we have grown. It reminds me of the stuff we used to flap about and now have solved. ?Lots of good stuff. Kathleen

Re: Message History
Hi Lavon
I find the message history a valuable archive. There is a search engine too. In a couple of my groups which are for volunteer committees, it means I don't have to use my email inbox to save the emails. All safe and tidy in my Groups.io. Over-quoting versus under-quoting

Casey,
?
Not being able to edit the canned Groups.io Direct Add message is problematic at best in an Enterprise or Open Source environment. ?
You should be able to edit an included part of it on the Direct Add page and/or in the Member Notices tab of your group's Settings page.
?
?
When I attempt to directly add someone to a subgroup, I must add them to the main, and they see that they were subscribed to list that they didn't ask for.? ?
I believe that if you Direct Add them directly to the subgroup they will be automatically added to the primary group, and the primary group's notice will be suppressed. It has been over a year since I tried this though, and that was in a Premium group, not Enterprise, so you may want to try a test case before trying this on any "real" members. It may require that you (temporarily) mark the Welcome and Direct Add notices of your primary group as "inactive".
?
We also need to be able to effectively remind them that?Community Members who are not subscribed to individual mailing lists could/will experience moderation of their posts. ?
You can remind them in your group's Home page description, Guidelines, a pinned Topic, a sticky-wiki, or a recurring event notification.

Re: Custom Direct Add message

Not being able to edit the canned Groups.io Direct Add message is problematic at best in an Enterprise or Open Source environment.? Most users do not know, understand or care to be required to be subscribed to a "main" mailing list in order to subscribe to another.? Because we can not edit the canned message, we can not effectively communicate that with new members of our community.?
When I attempt to directly add someone to a subgroup, I must add them to the main, and they see that they were subscribed to list that they didn't ask for.? They unsubscribe and then wonder why they are not getting the email from the subgroup that they did request. This is a critical flaw in the Groups.io platform and something needs to give. Either we need the ability to individually subscribe members to subgroups without them being a member of the default group, or we need the ability to edit the canned message to reflect that they are being added to a subgroup and the "main" list because it is required to be subscribed to any of the domain mailing lists.? We also need to be able to effectively remind them that?Community Members who are not subscribed to individual mailing lists could/will experience moderation of their posts. Re: How do I make a member a moderator or co-owner
Barbara Jean,
Here is how. There is also a cautionary note in the wiki page. That being said, there are advantages with having a second person in case something happens to the sole owner. /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Promotion%2C-Status-or-Permissions-Change-to-Moderator-or-Owner Frances -- /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki /static/help More help: use the search button at the top of the Messages list. |
Re: Thread hijacking
One thing I've discovered is that if the subject line in a reply to a topic is corrected (for a typo, etc.) after the orignal post has been approved, then changing even one character in the subjec tline of the reply causes the reply to become a new thread.
This has the effect of splitting a topic into more than one thread even if it were meant to be the same topic. And in that case it then needs to be merged with the original post to keep the info together. Just FWIW . . . Paul M. == |
Re: Thread hijacking
I don't think removing the subject and typing in a new out would work. That I would think would still link to the old messages in the thread, right? I don't want to take that risk. Plus you would have to remove all of the material in the message before writing a new one. Just start a new message, it's much easier.

Re: #email [privacy and sharing addresses]

Lisa,
However, from time to time a member WANTS other people to contact themWhat Duane said. Another popular cheat is: user(at)example.com Also, those members replying online via the "Reply" link below the message can then click the silver Private button over to the right. This will change that one reply into "Reply to Sender". This works without the need to expose the original sender's email address. Checking the BCC Me box is recommended, as otherwise the person making the reply will have no record of what they sent. Re: A group member asked this question.
Barbara Jean,
I took this one first, as it implies that she is looking at her Account page (clicked on Account from the menu under her name, in the upper right corner. The Export My Account button requests that Groups.io prepare a Zip file (compressed archive) of her contributions - to your group and/or any other groups she's a member of. That would include any message posts as well as uploaded photos, files and other content. It is part of Groups.io's commitment to openness as well as fulfilling a requirement of Europes GDPR regulation (that requires companies which retain personal information to make that information available to the person). As a group owner/moderator you have access (via a tab on the Settings page) to a similar function to export the entire content of the group.
She certainly has - witness access to her Account page. That may or may not include having subscribed to your group though - depending upon exactly what actions she took.
While at her Account page, she should make note of the left-hand column. As with the sections of a group, her Account also is organized into sections. The place for her name, photo, etc. is in the Identity section. There she'll find a list of her profiles - the first is her Account Profile and any information she puts in it becomes the default information put into a group profile when she joins a group. Following her Account Profile is a list of her profiles as they appear (if she allows them to appear) in her various group subscriptions. It is perfectly possible for her to show different profile information (Photo, Display Name, bio, Location, and Website) to different groups. She might want to differentiate the information she shows in hobby groups versus classmate groups versus general interest groups, for example.
