Re: you have reached the limit

Mark instituted a limit where you can invite limited number of address in a 24 hour period.
Does anyone know if there's a limit to the number of entries in a single Direct Add execution? I expect to have around 1000 to do shortly.

Andy

Re: Getting everything as Spam.

My doing a new invite did not work.
The = is still there.
I will send your Reply to the Subscriber.
I have a Yahoo address myself and the subscriber is not in my Contacts. At least I did not put it there.
But maybe it is there because I only have to type a couple of the first characters and all address with those first letters pop up for me to click on. I like that Yahoo feature!
There are many other aol and Yahoo address among my 700+subscribers.
None have complained.
Thanks for your info. I think that will solve the problem.
Richard

But if you go ahead and invite everyone, they'll all go through after it's approved.

Thanks, Chris. The uploader has been sending them as an attachment and the moderator would like some one to post them in the files.

In a word, no. I know the topic is slightly different but have a look at this (very recent) thread: /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/photo_albums/29114196?p=,,,20,0,0,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,29114196 because the reasons "why not" are essentially the same.

The best solution is to start again and reorganise the original message and its attachment into something that can be posted into the Files section.

Look at the Home button at the top of the left-side menu bar. Does it display a blue "owner" badge?

If not, you are still logged in under the wrong email address. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Help%21-I-Can%27t-Find-Any-Group-Content%21?for further instructions.

For obvious reasons I suggest you get a co-owner set up for your group as soon as you get this worked out.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Ancient Chinese Proverb: Be careful what you wish for, in case you get it.

On the group I moderate we have the opposite problem, with members quoting the entire preceding message, which itself included the entire message that preceded it, which in turn... I'm sure you can get the picture. The result is more work for moderators, who have to try to trim messages down so that only meaningful quotes are included. Watch this forum for a bit and you will see messages appended with Excess quote trimmed by moderator, which is a likely indication that something like the above has happened.

I don't think it is reasonable to expect groups.io to find a technological solution to what is a shortcoming of some users, specifically (in this case) the unwillingness to take the time and trouble to assemble a message so that the point it is trying to make follows logically from something has gone before; that does not include regurgitating the same messages time after time; just a key phrase or sentence is usually enough.

Hi,

A few years ago, someone created several bogus groups and sent invitations to millions of email addresses. To stop this behavior, Mark instituted a limit where you can invite limited number of address in a 24 hour period.

Cheers,

Re: Group without an owner

Last Saturday I created a new group called LIARS (Lopez Island Amateur Radio Society). I then changed my email address. This resulted in me losing all groups.io connections ¡ª including LIARS. So right now LIARS has no-one who can approve new members.

Can someone help me recover may ownership of the LIARS group?
Clark -
Go to the group web page and log in using your old email address. The in your Account page, change your email address to the new address.

Re: Deleting Attachemnts

Patrick,

will groups.io automatically begin dropping the oldest attachment? ?Or could it start deleting album photos and other stored files?
I was asking similar questions recently.? You can see the thread and the messages on the beta group I was pointed towards at:

Re: Searching for activity by a former member

Is there a way to search for activity in a group by a member who unsubscribed?
On Members - Banned enter the email address of that unsubscribed member, click Ban User, then search in Activity, then on Members - Banned check the checkbox at the left from that email address, Actions - Unban.

Re: Thread issue

Alexis,

I totally agree with what you are saying, but would draw your attention (in
case you've missed it) to the fact that users can if they so choose quote the
message to which they are replying, regardless of whether they do so via the
web or from an email client (as I do), but you yourself seem to choose not to
do so. Some inconsistency here?

Thanks for the info Bruce..will need to request this as as it stands right now,

but problems.

I agree that groups.io should not enforce them by default, I am asking about
giving the group owners the option to enforce it or not. After all, some groups
the bulk of the members will access it online, other groups primarily via email.
As mentioned before if via email and only reading a response without the full
thread to access in the email, it becomes meaningless.

Lloyd, re-read my original email and my comment above...I did not ask how *you*
like to read your messages, I asked if it was possible to change some settings.
I appreciate your response, but please make sure it is relevant to the question

That is where the judicious use of the Mark 1 eyeball is the best option.

IIRC anyone posting without having previously set a Display Name finds that Groups.io sets one automatically, based on the incoming email address, but exactly how it determines what the D/N ought to be is something I don't know. If you have his email address then a search in the Activity Log will prove helpful, as suggested by Margaret. Try All actions in the first instance.

Re: Getting everything as Spam.

I would also add that your @aol.com list member should include the list email address into their Contacts section in AOL as well.? I have an AOL email address, and I have not had any of the issues your list member is reporting.? I suspect it is due to her not having your list's email address in her Contacts section, as well as not managing her Spam folder correctly in AOL (i.e., not checking it regularly, and marking any legitimate emails as "NOT SPAM", which sends a message back to AOL to NOT black list those emails/domains.)? So, make sure she checks her Spam folder daily, and any groups.io emails that land in there need to be marked as "NOT SPAM", which will reinstate the to her Inbox.? VERY important step.? She does that enough, and AOL will get the message, and stop directing your list emails to her Spam folder :-)
