Re: #cal-notice

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDuane, I'm not sure what your question is, but I'll give some information that has helped me. ? So the only way to send these regular notices is to have them sent out of the calender function, and yes, they must appear in the messages. It?s just cumbersome to always have to delete these notices from the cover page. ? Victoria |
Re: #cal-notice
#cal-notice
I'm not sure what your question is, but I'll give some information that has helped me.
On each calendar event, at the bottom, there is a checkbox for "Send Notice To Group When Event Happens".? If you don't check that, no notice is sent.? Unfortunately, there's no way to disable notices, so if the person making the entry checks that box, a notice will be sent.? To avoid some of this, I've changed the hashtag #cal-notice to be moderated so that I can delete the message before it hits the group.? We don't normally use this tag since most of our events are many miles away and it would be too late to attend when it happens.? I'm also moderating the #cal-invite and #cal-reminder tags for 'safety'. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIs there a way to prevent the automatic appearance of #cal-notice on the home page every time a cal notice was generated? I find it quite bothersome to have to check on the homepage regularly, then click and delete each notice individually. That the #cal-notice listing side does not refresh each time one of the notices is deleted but instead jumps to the messages side, makes it even more circumstantial. Victoria |

Re: Group messages being blocked to @cox.net addresses
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIt most likely is a problem with cox.net. I¡¯m dealing with Cox right now over emails being delivered to me via Groups.io, that are arriving up to eight days later. A tech rep from Cox sees there is a problem, and they think it is on their end. They gave me work ticket number so I can check on their progress, but no answer back after two days. ? Don ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Bart Fried ? Our group is a recent migration from Yahoo! Three members use Cox.net as their ISP. One of them is active in the group and reported two days ago that he was unable to receive the login verification email in 'real time', ie. within the timeout period. They are showing up about 24 hours later. He needs to set his password and to be able to log into the site and set his profile, etc. Note that he is getting the regular emails, Just not the item that is a Noreply type of email. |
Re: what to do about group owners and abuse
Marvin,
If the abuse were done on-list you could flag the messages. The More menu under each message has a Report This Message item. That opens up a dialog which would allow you to send the report to Groups.io support.
That being the case you've done what is most likely to be effective. If he's sending the message using Groups.io's Private Reply or direct message facility then you could report that to [email protected]. But if (as is likely) he's sending them from his email service then you'd have to contact that service to report the messages as violations of their terms of service. If there's no compelling reason to remain a member of that group you should leave it. You'll never win a pissing contest with the group owner. what to do about group owners and abuse
Marvin Hunkin
I have been getting abuse from a group owner. And using foul language and using and foul terms and denigrating me. Is there an easy way to get help for abuse. And this person is doing it via my private e-mail. Have blocked him. So, what else to do. This has been happening for a while. [ad trimmed by moderator] |
Re: mail problems after transfer from Yahoo groups

Su, A member now writes to say that her Yahoo email account (with which she was subscribed to the old Yahoo group and which was brought over to the new one here) suddenly stopped working for her to send email. She writes: If she's signed in to that Yahoo Mail account it can't be unable to find "my mail address". She must mean some other address - perhaps the group posting address, or one of her other email addresses. ? But I did get the .io mails on my yahoo account. I just couldn¡¯t respond to them. Ok, that's more along the lines I was thinking - it is the email address she's sending To that Yahoo is complaining about. The most likely thing is that she is misspelling the group's posting address. I've sent a test message to her Yahoo email account to see if it does in fact receive incoming email. You should already know the answer. That is, if her Yahoo Mail inbound were somehow disabled you should have promptly received a notice from your own email service telling you that delivery failed. I've also asked the group owner to remove her yahoo email subscription since she has now subscribed with a different email addy. That may not have been a kindness. That is, any content (files, photos, etc) she had uploaded to the Yahoo Group would have transferred over connected to her Yahoo Mail address; meaning that she would retain the ability to edit or delete them, as long as she logged in to Groups.io with the Yahoo Mail address. Her better move would have been to log in with the Yahoo Mail address, and in its Account page change its address to her new preferred address. I think that would change the ownership of her content to the new address. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |
Re: Missing footers
Janet, I have a member who went through the automatic unsub process and clicked the link to get back into the group.? Since then, though, she's not getting many messages ... Sounds like the behavior of a spam filter. She should check the webmail interface of her email service provider to see if more messages have been diverted to her Spam folder. If any are found there mark them as "Not Spam". ... and those that she is getting have no footer.? Except that bit. Even if someone in the group is sending direct messages to her (via the site) I think there is still a minimal footer. Are these footer-less messages replies to something she posted? It is possible that your group is set to reply to? Group and Sender or that some members are using Reply All in their email interface. In either of those cases the reply direct to her would be without footers. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Any thoughts on what might be happening here?My guess is that the subscriber didn't receive an "unsub for spam" email at all, but a bounce probe. Open the subscriber's member record and click on the "Email Delivery History" button at the top. Have there been any recent hard bounces? Does the Activity log show the account as having recently encountered bouncing activity? If a subscriber has a full inbox, (s)he will encounter a "hard bounce." At that point groups.io will quit sending group emails and will instead send periodic "bounce probes." Clicking the link in that probe will temporarily fix the bouncing situation with groups.io but the subscriber can expect continued message delivery issues until such time that they fix the underlying problem. ? This is all a guess, of course. As to the footer problem, an example would be handy. Be advised that plain-text messages sent to the group will be forwarded without active hyperlinks unless you force html in your group settings (see Message Formatting).? mail problems after transfer from Yahoo groups
#post-transfer
#yahoo
Our group transfer just got completed earlier today.
A member now writes to say that her Yahoo email account (with which she was subscribed to the old Yahoo group and which was brought over to the new one here) suddenly stopped working for her to send email. She writes: Since the transfer, I get an error message from the Yahoo server saying that my mail address cannot be found and has been rejected every time I try to send something. I¡¯ve not had any issues with my mail in all of these years, so the timing seems way too coincidental. My worry is that anyone who writes to me at my old Yahoo address will not be able to reach me. But I did get the .io mails on my yahoo account. I just couldn¡¯t respond to them. So maybe incoming mail isn¡¯t broken, just outgoing? I've sent a test message to her Yahoo email account to see if it does in fact receive incoming email. I've also asked the group owner to remove her yahoo email subscription since she has now subscribed with a different email addy. Any ideas on what might be happening here? I'm mystified. Thanks! Su |

Easiest way to to usubscribe?
We use our group like a newsletter. Anyone can subscribe, but only moderators can post. I'd like to inform our subscribers of the easiest way to unsubscribe from our group. I know there is an "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom of each message, but I'm looking for a way they can unsubscribe easily without having to use a previous message.

I didn't restart though I did go back and uncheck a couple of boxes and "updated" the transfer request. I also sent the above question to support but didn't get an answer.
However, I got emailed last night that the invite had been accepted, and the whole transfer was completed at about noon, Mountain time! I'm happy. :-) |
Re: Bouncing problem
#bouncedemails
Panos,
What I don't get is how I can send/receive emails from my corporateThat's a good question. I don't have any Enterprise groups and I'm not entirely familiar with what capabilities come with the custom domain feature. It is possible that the way your service checks the incoming message it sees the custom domain as "local" or otherwise bypasses that requirement. It is also possible that Groups.io is delivering messages through the submission port of a mailserver in that domain, causing the messages to actually be from a local server, as seen by your incoming processing. A detailed examination of the message header from a message that went through that other group may provide the answer, but don't post an example in GMF - our archives are public - and it would be "noise" to most members. In reply to Yvette you wrote: If you mean going on the web page and send a message from there, i'veYou mean colleagues using the same email service? I was afraid of that. Other options: Ask your email service to publish a DMARC policy of "reject". This would be a very draconian step, and I don't really recommend it, but it would cause Groups.io to automatically re-write your From address as being @groups.io, thus avoiding the problem. Ask Groups.io to implement an account feature whereby you can elect to have your From address rewritten (as if for DMARC) despite the lack of a published policy from your email service. This has been discussed before and it would help others with a similar problem.
