I think the problem (whatever it was) has been resolved because he has received that test message and all others posted since he was approved.? I'm not going to worry about it until/unless it pops ups again.

Rather than emailing into the group from your email address, why don't you try going online to your group and sending a message from the group itself?? I do this with all of the groups I belong to and never email into the group from my email provider.? I always see/receive the messages I send and have never had a bouncing problem even though I use a provider that is notorious for that and for marking messages as spam. Hope that helps a bit.

Hello Shal,

Many thanks for the elaborate reply. Why the error is happening is clear to me now.

We set up this mailing list for a collaboration between companies so ideally I and many colleagues would like to be able to send/receive emails properly. It is far from ideal to not be able to receive emails from colleagues from our own company (defeats the purpose of the mailing list).

What I don't get is how I can send/receive emails from my corporate email account to another mailing list (lists.onap.org) that is also set up in groups.io. The only difference is that the other group has its own domain (lists.onap.org). How isn't my email service rejecting these emails also?

Many thanks,?
Panos

Re: Bouncing problem #bouncedemails

Panos,

I never received that email and if I read my email delivery history on
the groups.io web portal I see a bouncing error
"550 5.7.1 local domain specified from non-local IP".
What your email service is saying is that they rejected the message because it is From you - your email address in their ("local") domain - yet they received it from Groups.io (a server at an IP address that doesn't belong to them ("non-local").

Do you have an idea of how to sort this out?
You'll need to ask that of your email service. As matters stand they are basically saying that you may not receive your own messages back from any traditional email list. But they may have a way to "whitelist" or otherwise identify groups.io as a valid sender of messages To you that are From you.

Or you could decide to just live with this limitation. You should be able to receive group messages from other group members (but maybe not from any that use your same email service, depending on how picky they are being). That would be something you'd need to check, if possible.

Or you could set up a second subscription for yourself at another email service (such as gmail). You would set your primary address subscription to No Email to prevent duplicates. An Email Alias and some forwarding or cross-service mail checking would be involved.

Or you could chose a more list-friendly email service.

Re: Group messages being blocked to @cox.net addresses

Beth,

This user says that she is getting topic/message emails ... , but when
she tries to set a password by going to the login page and clicking on
forget password she never gets that email.
In the category of "Is it plugged in?" questions, she should check at her service's webmail interface for any Junk or Spam folders that may be catching the logon emails, or any filters she can set to accept email from groups.io or from [email protected] (aka "whitelist" them).

She should also make sure that the email address she's trying to use is exactly the same as that shown in the bottom of a footer from a group message she has received. It is amazing how many times members typo their own email address, or type the wrong address because they had previously set up a forwarding arrangement.

Received from Jonathan Sivier at 11/6/2018 12:03 AM UTC:

I have 2 members on one of my groups who have addresses at "icloud.com" They are the only 2 addresses at this domain on any of my lists. Both of them began bouncing on November 1 with the error message:

550 5.7.1 [CS01] Message rejected due to local policy. Please visit

This seems to indicate there is some issue with groups.io that iCloud doesn't like. Is there anything I can do?

The page at the above link is aimed at bulk senders of the shady variety. iCloud is confusing Gio with senders of unsolicited bulk mail... aka spam. It's not Gio's problem; it's iCloud's problem.

Two potential solutions...

1) Your subscribers should complain to iCloud - via phone if possible, but also via email. They should complain to postmaster@... and abuse@... and tell them that Gio is a subscription mailing list service like YahooGroups, email by subscription only, no spam.

2) Groups.io should tell them the same. Based on some experience manning an abuse desk part time, they'll probably pay more attention to Gio than to your two subscribers.

""? ...? Both of them began bouncing on November 1 ...

This has cropped up before:

No, not directly.
I think at most you could contact [email protected] to let them know, but my guess is that since this has been a recurring problem Mark is already aware of it.

As with Janice's similar report, the problem can only be solved by their email provider. So your two members should try to figure out how to reach the right level of support at iCloud and get them to recognize Groups.io as a legit email list service. Either that or vote with their feet (switch to? an email provider that will actually deliver the email they signed up for).

I have two subscribers who received this message, both sending from the DC.gov domain. I don¡¯t know if ¡°local¡± refers to their server or the Groups.io server.

Often their messages are rejected and sometimes they don¡¯t receive messages. I¡¯ve told them I think it is on their end because no one else is having that problem and they are the only ones coming from that domain.

Re: What does this mean

It's his provider saying they think they got too many messages from Groups.io.? He should contact his provider and tell them that this is a group site that will send emails, sometimes many in a short time.? I doubt it will do any good, but they may allow more traffic eventually.

What does this mean

I checked the history of a brand new member and this is what appeared for the test message I posted to him:

Sue,

I get bouncing, what can I do?

When and how do you see "bouncing" related to your email address?

So far it does not look like your email service has bounced (rejected) any messages from GMF, but are you seeing bounces listed in your Account, or in your Subscription to another group?

Or, do you get failure notices (bounces) when you attempt to post to a group by email?

group transfer and premium upgrade question #transfer #upgrade

I had read here that the group transfer would likely happen more quickly if I upgraded to a paid group for at least a month. So I did that.

My question is, do I need to delete and restart the transfer request for it to be noticed that it's now a "premium" group?

Thanks.

Re: Query Databases form the web #database

Hi Alex,

Dear Group.io;

Welcome to GMF, a user-to-user forum (no Groups.io personnel here).

I have question about the outside accessibility of the databases inside each group.
Is it possible to query the existing tables via XML or any other method using a script?

Maybe.

There is an API for Groups.io, but I don't know if or how it works with members-only features (features like the Database, which require one to be logged in to access).

Yes, the -test option is available to all groups.? As you and Shal mentioned, there's no way to reverse the procedure, so use it VERY carefully.
[Edit, I should clarify that it's the Delete function that can't be reversed.? The others can be undone, but could be a hassle.]

Our group decided to get rid of many of our oldest posts (from 15-20 years ago) as they were no longer relevant and just slowed down Searches, e.g. We used the Beta "batch mode" method Shal described above and it worked like a charm! Setting my account to see 100 entries at a time, I went through over 100,000 messages quite quickly. WAY better than the one at a time method.

If you are *sure* you want to delete them, this method was great for us. (It is a paid group - not sure whether the test site is available to free groups, too....)
