Removing specific attachments

I have one user who member with an e-mail app that automatically attaches a winmail.dat file. Besides disallowing all attachments, is there a way to filter and delete specific files, perhaps by filename?

Jim, you are right. I did a quick check before my original post did not see multiple "received" entries. Must have been more "quick" than "check". I cannot repeat it.??? -Joe

Message Rejection Notice Formatting #moderation

Josh Miele

Hello!

I'm having trouble creating a well-formatted message-rejection notice.

The message I create with markdown in my notice looks great when previewed -- links appear properly, etc. But when the notice arrives to the rejectee via e-mail, not only does it have unwanted groups.io boilerplate above and below my message, but my markdown isn't processed at all, leading to an extremely bad experience for my rejected posters.

This happens regardless of whether I reject via e-mail or the web interface.

I'd like to both get rid of the boilerplate and have my rejection notice formatted as it appeared in my preview.

I'd be grateful for suggestions.

Re: How long before new group is "active"?

All new groups must be approved before they become active.? It can take up to 24 hours, but usually it's less than 12.? You'll get an email at the address you used to create the group when it's approved.

How long before new group is "active"?

G'day everyone
I created a group today and I'm testing it.? However, when I send a subscription mail (+subscribe) from another e-mail address, I (the moderator) don't get a notification, I? (the sender) don't get any feedback, and the "pending" members page shows nothing pending.? Does this mean groups.io has finally stopped, or does it mean that my group takes a while to be activated, or what?
Thanks
Samuel

Hi All,

I'm looking for feedback that will help me prioritize feature development, and have put together a short survey. If you're a Groups.io owner or moderator, I would appreciate it if you could spend a minute answering it. Also, please pass this along to other owners/moderators.

Thank you!

Mark

Wouldn't that email just show the path from Groups.io to her? I think you need to look at the email as shown on the web page for Groups.io via More -> View Source. This would show the path the email took to reach Grousp.io.

Whoops... I withdraw my earlier (a few minutes ago) response about stripping "Received:" headers and apologize...

Mail sent from a home email account contains all headers from point of origin to point of delivery back to someone with a home email account. Someone receiving mail at home should be able to paste the headers into the link I provided and see the delays between handoffs all listed... usually only a few seconds.

But just for the record... what you see in a delay analysis isn't always clear. A delay between X and Y can because X was slow in passing things along... or it can be because Y gave X a 4xy response, effectively telling X, "Not now, try again later." In the latter case the problem is at Y. A header analysis can't tell the difference... tho the problem is usually with the sending site.

Apparently so... I guess I should have run an actual Gio message vs going with what I did when my groups were on Yahoo... but whoda thought Groups.io would strip all the "Received:" headers before sending a message on. Disappointing to say the least. :-(

Re: Mail not being delivered

I sent a resend to my group and it arrived almost immediately after I sent it.
11:53 AM CDT....................then at 11:59 AM the original message reached the group.
The original was sent out around??10:00 AM so it was almost a 2 hour delay.
?
I am not seeing any message delays in any of my other IO Groups.

There will be a series of Received-by: things in the header. See appended text for example.

You will need to provide this text for the message that was actually held up, not the one retained on the originating server.

By parsing through this mess, it's possible to determine where the message was held up. With servers sometimes in different time zones, it's not necessarily a trivial exercise; but my guess is that it was probably not groups.io.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

There is no "account", per se, other than the person's email address. With the likely exception of group owners, I suspect most subscribers in groups.io took no action to "create an account" to get started. It was automatically created when their email address was direct-added to a group, transferred into a group from Yahoo, etc.

That said, groups.io cannot determine whether someone attempting to do something is actually authorized to do so unless they somehow confirm that they own the corresponding email address. This is possible by using the "email me a link to login" function at /login. Whether a subscriber subsequently sets up a password so as to bypass this mild annoyance is entirely their choice...but they are no more or less of a member of groups.io for having done so.

As for what can be done without logging in -- it is possible for a group owner to make the calendar, wiki and/or message archive *visible*?to "the world outside" via group settings. But that's about all.?To post a message online, edit a calendar or wiki entry, respond to a poll, change your preferences, update your profile, participate in chats, access files, photos and databases, etc...all of these functions require that the subscriber be logged in.
?
Hope this helps,
Bruce

Once you have a copy of the delayed email as sent to you by Groups.io, follow the link below and follow directions found there. It will tell you how to reveal the needed headers and it contains a link to a tool that will analyze them for you.

Re: Mail not being delivered

Do you have the full header on that message that did eventually arrive? You're looking for a gap in the times. Or you can post it here as you did the other one - someone here can translate it for you. As soon as I saw the mchsi client, my finger wanted to point in that direction, though from the header above it looks like the mediacom server handed it off to gmail quite promptly. So you would need to see the one that came BACK to see where it got interrupted.

I know it's very frustrating not to be able to count on delivery times. Good luck.
