If the group?requires?approval of membership for new members, will members transferred from Yahoo group need approval the first time they log in?

When I see a message going off topic, I usually rename the title of the off topic message.

Gerald is correct; a "topic merge" functionality exists within GIO.?Keep in mind, though, that those messages have already gone out as emails. You can fix the archive but if anyone subsequently replies to any email with the "bad" subject line, it starts that topic all over again.

Short of engaging in public browbeatings, the only way I've been able to merge topics without chasing my tail is by first waiting for the "bad" thread to die a natural death.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce?

Re: Members transferered from Yahoo group cannot sign in to new Groups.io group

Apparently, this problem has been?solved. Link to sign in?is now being received. Must have been something related to bandwidth...who knows?

Re: Members transferered from Yahoo group cannot sign in to new Groups.io group

I am about to do the same transfer.

I believe if they want to use the web side of Groups.io they will need to create an account with the email they have transferred from Yahoo.? Then they will gain access to the group on the web.? As they transferred, they are subscribed to the group, but only via email and will get messages and could reply, depending on group settings.

My view of it anyways...

Re: clarification on direct add feature

Adam

Hi Shal,?
New group owner here. Searched for direct add member notifications and this seemed most on topic. When I Direct Add to a subgroup the members are receiving two notifications, one that a moderator has added them and one that appears generic. So when adding to 4 subgroups the member is receiving 8 emails, which I'd like to prevent for the rest I need to add.?
1. Is there a way to Direct Add without two emails to members??

Yahoo Transfer Members Question

Hello all,

I am planning to move a Yahoo Group over to Groups.io shortly.? I have a question on member?transfer.

Can I transfer over all listed members except the 'no email' members?? The previous Yahoo Groups owner didn't remove people when they asked to be unsubscribed and just moved them to 'no email' status.? So I don't want to include them.? I only have 1800 members, but with Yahoo only allowing 1,000 to be exported, I can't catch and remove all the 'no email' status members.

Thanks for any advice

Bryan

Re: Members transferered from Yahoo group cannot sign in to new Groups.io group

they should already be a member of the io group if they were a member of the yahoo group. is the io group the same name as the yahoo group? if they did not receive the confirmation email tell them to do a search in io for the name of the group. it should come up and they can click on it.
when they create their io account the groups that they are a member of should also populate in the list under the groups icon.
they should have to rejoin the io group

I hope you get a reply to this
because we have the same problem.

I will sit and wait and wait for a response,?
when it dawns on me to refresh and there they will be,
having been there for a good bit of time!

Members transferered from Yahoo group cannot sign in to new Groups.io group

I have just transferred my Yahoo group to Groups.io.
The transferred members are reporting to me via Yahoo group that they do not understand how to access the new Groups.io group.
?
Here is their problem. How do they actually access the new Groups.io group?
The notice sent by Groups.io to the Yahoo group says two things:?
1. How to go to the new Groups.io group homepage; ¡°The group homepage is located here.¡±?
2. and, how to immediately unsubscribe
The transferred member is not told how to sign in to the new Gropus.io group.
After the member clicks on the link to the group homepage. What do they do to sign in to the group?
3. The group homepage apparently provides several options:
Do they click on the ¡°Join This Group¡± button? This option does not make sense because they were transferred. Or,
4. Do they click on the ¡°Log In If Already A Member¡± button which takes them to the login page? Apparently, they do not already have a Groups.io account so they cannot sign in because they can¡¯t have a link sent them.
5. That leaves only one option. They must go to the top of the homepage and click on ¡°Sign up¡±

When they go through the process of creating an account they do not receive the confirmation email.
?
That leaves them in limbo. What do they do if they never receive the confirmation email?

Re: Groups.io site updates #changelog

I LOVE the bulk operations feature.? Will this be rolled out to PHOTOS section anytime soon.

THanks Shal for your efforts!

Using Chat #chats

Matty Smith

We have been testing out the Chat facility in our G.io.
Whilst we have no problems creating the Chat, there does seem to be an issue with responses being posted to it.
We all find we have to keep refreshing the screen in order to bring up new posts. Is this how it is supposed to work?
Our expectation was that it would be more like Skype Chat, with messgaes coming in from those taking part, as they are posted and being sutomatically displayed for all those in the Chat top see.
Are we missing something?
Thanks
Matty

In practice, the message numbers will never match the yahoo sequence unless there were never any deleted emails on the yahoo group.

No, they will not be overwritten, and all date/timestamps are preserved.

There is an automatic acknowledgement that you should have received immediately. If not your spam filter may have captured it, or something went wrong.
?
But as to an actual response, as Bruce said that could take an indefinite amount of time. If there was a problem with the acknowledgement there's a possibility that the same thing may happen to the actual response.
