Re: Sending Invite

Don,

I customized the Invitation?message in my groups as follows prior to initiating?the actual transfer of the Yahoo groups to Groups.io:

?The fundamental concern is that you don't need to send an invitation to your Y!Group members, they will be copied into your group during the transfer (except those that are Bouncing) - unless you uncheck the box to transfer members.

The transfer process sends a system-supplied "You've been added" notice plus your group's Welcome member notice to all of the copied addresses. You can opt out of either or both of those, but I don't advise it. GMF's wiki page has some advice and examples of tailoring your group's Welcome notice for the transfer.

I am tempted to ask why. It is always worth keeping an eye on things that others are asking about, because sometimes there are topics that can be something that is of value to you.?

You can manage the email traffic by setting GMF to "No emails" and simply using web access from time to time.

The preview in the "Invitation To Be Sent" box is live - type into the "Customize Message" box and watch it update accordingly.

Tip: I like using horizontal lines at the top and bottom of my custom section to make it more distinct from the boilerplate. Draws the eyes to it. You'll find the horizontal line button on the Advanced toolbar, which you need to open with the button on the right of the normal toolbar.

Gary,

I only want emails from topics I have posted in. How do I do this? Do I need to leave GMF ?

?Go to the Subscription page while visiting GMF. Open up the Advanced Preferences. Select Following Only? and Auto Follow Replies. Maybe First Message Also, if you like.

Commented in GMF two posts - but getting all GMF posts - Having to mute ALL other topics

Hello,
I had joined GMF to learn and post about in a couple of topics.?
But now I get ALL the GMF topics, and am having to individually "mute" all the other topics that I am NOT interested in.
I dont need or want all the other stuff.?
I am receiving dozens of emails daily, keeps me and my inbox fairly busy.

I only want emails from topics I have posted in. How do I do this? Do I need to leave GMF ?
Please advise.

Hello Shal,

I went to the link provided and tried this feature and it looks to be going to be a really convenient option. It's an obvious time-saver, but . . .

Is there some way to toggle the option on or off? I couldn't locate one anywhere. (Or maybe I am just having Moderator/User blindness!)

Sandra,
?

I have now have about 45 emails that are bounced that were working fine on yahoo groups.?

The members can send a message to the group,...

Do you mean Bounced, as in a red B badge on their membership row? If so they shouldn't be able to post messages. Nor when Bouncing (blue B), I think.

So I wonder if they are posting from those same addresses.

The examples are marked as temporary errors (4xy) which normally would not place them on Bouncing status until the problem has continued for quite a while (four days, minimum).

but they do not receive messages from others or a copy of their own message when they post.

Groups.io stops trying to deliver messages to members with either Bouncing or Bounced status.

When I go to the members account and look at email delivery history this is what I see:

?...?
?

How do I fix this?

?I don't think you do.

"server not available" sounds like an error internal to that email service. Most likely members need to contact their email service to see what the problem is. It is possible that if you (or they) report the situation to [email protected] that Mark would look into it, and maybe contact their service to resolve it.

This error suggest that the mail server on the recipient's end is temporarily down. There is nothing you (or groups.io) can do to fix it.

Most of the problem emails are @triad.rr.com?? the others seem to be @abusinessname

A few may be old unused emails and they have a second email in the group and I am going to try and remove those once I verify they no longer use that email

When you select Moderator for someone's role, on the list of permissions the box for Edit Archives will allow them to delete posts (among other things.)

Re: Are private replies present in archive?

Jed,

When someone sends a private reply to a message, is there any way to
make that reply visible on the message thread on the website (only for
the sender and receiver, of course)?
I don't believe so. I think "private" might be better described as "offlist" or "direct". Nor is it logged anywhere.

As a sender, if you want to keep a copy you need to use the BCC Me checkbox.

Are private replies present in archive?

Apologies if this has been addressed before, I searched but could not find an answer on this forum or the beta forum.? When someone sends a private reply to a message, is there any way to make that reply visible on the message thread on the website (only for the sender and receiver, of course)?? One of our moderators created a hashtag with the option "Reply to sender".? She has gotten email replies, but those replies are not visible on the website, neither when looking at the topic, nor the hashtag.? I've gone back and noticed the same thing for private replies to messages I've sent out, that they do not seem to be present anywhere in the archive.? Not a huge deal, but was just wondering if I missed anything. Thanks.
