Re: "On this day" calendar/database?
Frances' idea of an RSS #feed seems pretty brilliant, actually (e.g.: ). It does the stated job, and there's very little work involved.
?
I will acknowledge that my experience with RSS feeds - and such "news" in general - suggests that subscribers soon grow weary of them. While those who dislike them can always mute the associated hashtag(s), few will actually do so. You may need to be prepared to have subscribers start marking them as spam and getting unsubscribed. /helpcenter/faq/1/group-member-faq/q-i-got-a-message-that-i?

Re: "On this day" calendar/database?
If one were to implenent such a feature, one would want to give the proposed recipients a way to disable it. I, for one, try to limit my daily incoming unsolicited (non-spam) emails to ?less than ~200. DaveD KC0WJN On Wed, Feb 26, 2025 at 09:25 Frances via <frances=[email protected]> wrote:

"On this day" calendar/database?
Hi, I'm looking for some advice on the best options to provide our group with "on this day in history" facts.
?
For each day of the year we might have between four and six historic events that happened. I'd like members to get an automatic email each day with the events associated with that day, and also be able to browse through the events.
?
It seems a recurring event in calendar might work, or maybe store the events in a database? Uploading of the data is something we need to consider.
?
I'd be grateful for any advice.
Thank you Dan |

This member is older, only has one email address and one account, and still wasn't seeing the option to edit or delete. So I suggested the old tried and true "try logging out and logging back in".....and lo and behold...that worked! Now she can see both edit and delete in the hamburger menu. She swears it's the same thing she tried before, but who knows? Regardless, thanks to Bruce and Malcom for the help. I'm guessing the whole "issue" was user error in some form, but it's fixed now regardless!?? (If you thought this was fun, imagine me trying to help her operate her DVR!) Another thought occurs to me. Could she be logged in under a different email address than the one that posted the message?
?
If so, she should log out and log back in with the correct email address. At that point I suspect the edit function might become available, too.

Re: Member trying to edit a message
Bruce, Thanks, that's what I suspected. The link you provided says group owners CAN'T disable the ability for members to DELETE their own messages. However, this member doesn't see that option in the hamburger menu from her message. Is there somewhere else I can direct her? Re: Member trying to edit a message
Probably. And that's what I'll tell the member who asked me. (She was NOT asking about my group, but about another group she's in.)

If necessary, she can delete her original message and then post an edited version. The end result is similar, the only real difference being the date/timestamp.

Member trying to edit a message
I'm trying to help a group member who wants to edit her own message. From the member manual:
?
To edit the content of a message that you posted:
?
However, when she follows these instructions, the only options she sees from the hamburger menu are "report message" and "see source". Is this a function that might have been limited by the owner of the group? (She's a member of one of my groups, and I've helped her with things before, which is why she contacted me even though she's having the problem in someone else's group.)
?
Thanks for any help!

The first thing you should do is create a Guideline/Rule of the format to be used, possibly including an example.? That will give you something to enforce.
?
You could also select the option at Admin > Preferences > Settings - Message Formatting to Normalize HTML Emails.? As noted, that removes all the fonts and colors.

[We have this turned on here in GMF, for much the same reason.]
...some forget to put in the date, many fail to put in their full name.? I don't think we can help you with that. The only thing you can do is moderate the group and reject any posts with missing information.

Hope this helps,

Hi everyone!

Thanks for responding to my question.

I just want to report that I figured it out! I removed the member from the subgroup, added them back, and the display name from the main group cascaded to the subgroup.

Cheers!

Did you click Add Event & Invite Group on some of the events?? I'm assuming here that you added them online.
