Make sure you're following the steps in order at /g/GroupManagersForum/message/23597? If you are, furnish more information about which step you're at and exactly what you see so we can help.

Don't see how that is the problem since it is only messages from Groups.io that are affected all other mail comes normal including mail from Yahoo groups, it has to be something that groups.io is doing.? Jerrie

The only type of notice that can be sent automatically every month is the Group Guidelines type.? Make sure you have one and that you've selected the "Send monthly to group" check box.? There is no Active box for this type.

A complication arises if the photos within an album belong to different subscribers. It is only a personal opinion but I think that album ownership is of less significance than photograph ownership. Photo sections can easily become a bit chaotic and someone (Owner or Moderator) has to step in and try to restore some sort of order. This can result in new albums being created with existing photographs from different albums being moved to them. There is a tendency for members to see "their" photo album as a sort of cloud storage which for a Basic Group with 1 GB of space available is a bit of an indulgence. Another effect is for different albums to contain very similar photographs; again very wasteful of space. (Another member trick is to put a really good, usefu,l informative photo with possible widespread appeal into "My Album" where no - one else can find it after any initial interest has subsided.

IMHO there is no simple solution to the management of a photo archive. Since migrating from Yahoo at the end of 2017 I have moved a lot of photos and deleted even more without a cheep of complaint arising. The "main" problem of photo archives is indexing the contents; it can be done but again it's quite a lot of work.

Re: Can we move selected archived messages from the main group to a subgroup?

We need this feature as well to streamline posts and move topics from the main group to the sub-group where they belong.

Re: Can I set questions for people requesting to join the group?

Jill, I have set up a pending membership questionnaire that is sent to them when they apply to join. It seems to be working.

From the image you sent me privately, it looks as if your e-mail program is unable to extract the sender and the subject line even though it "receives" the messages. Since this only happens with Groups.io mails, it is likely at least partially Groups.io related.

I suggest you post a bug report to [email protected]. Include the images that show what your screen looks like, and forward some sample messages, too.

When forwarding them copies of your mails, remember to forward them as attachments. I believe in Windows Live Mail, forwarding messages as attachments may require you to save the mail as EML to your local computer and then manually attaching it to the bug report e-mail.

No idea I'm afraid! The reassignment of photo ownership is a bit cumbersome certainly. Whether there might be any changes is one of life's great unknowns.

At least it's better than it was when there was no means of changing ownership, or for that matter no means of moving photos between albums. It was a clumsy workaround for that latter shortfall (now mercifully remedied) that put me in the position of having a load of mis - attributed photos to try to sort out.

Given that most misattributions will be down to the original owner no longer being a member of a migrated group then it is not clear who they should be assigned to anyway.

Re: Transfer Process for second group "Stuck"

pnrt,

You have successfully completed one transfer for us of one of our
Yahoo Groups (THANKS!), ...
Please be aware that GMF is a user-to-user help group, no Groups.io employees here.

I had sent an invite from our Yahoo group to [email protected]
(Step 1)
That is not step 1, it is step 3. To succeed you must follow the steps in order without skipping any. Re-read the transfer instructions page,
/yahootransfer

Or follow the detailed outline on GMF's wiki:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

... so I look it up and it tells me that [email protected] has
accepted the invite and I need to now make groups.io a Moderator of
the Yahoo group.
Make sure you're looking at the status for the correct transfer. Check that both the Yahoo Group setting and the Groups.io selection match the transfer you're trying to do.

EXCEPT: When I go into the Yahoo group to change them to a Moderator,
they are not showing up in the members list for that group (as though
the invite was not accepted or did not go through properly).
It could be just Yahoo being slow about updating its pages.

Have a look at whether the Activity log of the Yahoo Group can tell you anything about the transfer address. I say that with some trepidation as the activity logs in many of my Yahoo groups stopped updating some months or years ago.

Do I need to cancel the request and start over?
That would likely be the best way to untangle the situation.

For a definitive answer you should contact [email protected]

Why don't you go back to the transfer page and double-check that you show that your correct group is going into a subgroup of your main group?

You should create a subgroup now that the first (main) group has been transferred, if you haven't done that yet.

You would set up a transfer from a Yahoo Group into the subgroup.

You have to create the subgroup before setting up the transfer, just as you had to set up the primary group before any transfers into it.

Transfer Process for second group "Stuck"

Hi there,

You have successfully completed one transfer for us of one of our Yahoo Groups (THANKS!), but the transfer process for our second Yahoo group is currently "stuck" ?in a bit of a loop, and I'm not sure what I should do next to ensure it can be completed. Here's where things are at:

In Admin, Settings, go to the third button.
3) Cover Photo button:
You can add a photo for your group home page as well as a group icon for use on mobile devices. Upload a file containing the cover photo. It will be scaled to fit within 900 x 300 pixels - 3:1 ratio.

Re: Multiple e-mail problem

Hi Shal,
Fingers crossed that I¡¯ve got it fixed. I deleted the wrong account. I then e-mailed the owner of the group in question to have her check my membership. It would only be two e-mail addresses - the Hotmail one or the wrong one. She confirmed that I was only listed once in the membership under the Hotmail address.
I¡¯m really sorry for all the confusion. I know all of the moderators here have their hands full with so many questions. I do appreciate all of you taking the time to answer my and every one¡¯s many questions.

?Ginger,

I will now get messages delivered there.
Whether or not you receive messages from a particular group is controlled by the settings in the Subscription page of that group, when signed in using the email address in question.

Since I deleted the account with the "wrong" address will my messages
now go to the hotmail address, or is there something else I need to
do?
Deleting that account won't have any effect on delivery to another account.

I was able to delete the account under the "wrong" e-mail.
...
I can't see the membership list on that group to know if I am
subscribed under two different e-mail addresses.
If you deleted the account for the wrong address, then it is no longer subscribed to any groups. The mods on that group may not know how to tell how many subscriptions you have, unless you've given them a list of all of your email addresses to check.

Re: Is registration required?

Suzanne,

Please point me to where it explains that if your members were
transferred from a yahoogroups, if they were getting emails there,
they should get emails from the new io group and be able to post via
email or reply to someone else's post via email.
Being a member implies the ability to receive and post messages by email.

More detail is found in the second bullet point on the transfer instructions page:
"We will add all members that are currently confirmed and not bouncing
to your group. Members' subscription preferences (email, no email,
digest, etc.) will be preserved. Members' posting privileges (group
default, override - moderated, etc.) will also be preserved."
/yahootransfer

If I understand correctly, they only have to register with groups.io
if they want to use the web UI. Is this correct?
That is correct.

Note that the word "register" implies a lot more formality than is actually required. All they need do is log in - they're already signed up. On the Log In page they can use either the Forgot password link or the the email a login link button.

Re: Is registration required?

And just to say it again, those that transfer from Yahoo Groups LOG IN, not sign up.

When they are moved, they are registered.

Their email address is their account ID.

See the links in the other email for info. Feel free to share them.?

You don't have to do anything. When they are transferred from YahooGroups by Groups.io transfer process, they are migrated with the proper status. (Except no mail, unless the new group doesn't permit no mail. If so, the person's subscription would be Special Notices.)

The only issue is that they must login with their Yahoo Groups email address. Once they login to Groups.io, they can change their email address.

I am assuming you DIDN'T set up your group as "announcement" in Spam Control. That setting only allows the owner / moderators to post.
