You don't say if you've followed the steps that lead up to inviting the transfer agent to your Yahoo Groups.

If you haven't then the invitations have been discarded.

If you have then you know where to look to see the status of each of your transfers.

We (you and I) use a different dialect based on where we live.? I wouldn't call it a newsletter because that would imply (to me) that others contributed.? I can't think of a better word than announcement to describe how I understand it without getting into a long description.? The only thing that comes to mind is Private Announcements, but that's not quite true either.? I do understand your statement though.

Zelda -- It should not take that long.

Check your status per?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/19948. If it says "be sure to invite [email protected]"?or something to that effect, your invitation did not work and you will need to send another one. Be sure to send it from your YAHOO group.

It IS the weekend.? After the wringer that the GIO folks have been through, they deserve the time off.

I know of several people that have transferred additional groups into subgroups, so it can be done.

If you include Members in the transfer to the subgroup, they're added to the main group and the subgroup.

Well actually you DO have a status, and it would tell you whether the transfer agent had received the request or not. But since you already know otherwise . . .

What I don't understand is how the moderators here ever find the patience to deal with people who already know the answers. Then again, that's why I only post occasionally and am NOT a moderator here. These folks help everyone out a sense of support for the groups.io system, and there are times they deserve the recognition that they = do = know more than most.

I have all of my groups set so that No Email is disabled.? That way if there's an emergency, I can send one email to contact everyone using the Special Notice.? If you do everything as I suggest above, a mouseclick on the link should open your default email client and open its message editor with the target address pre-populated in the To: field.

[It's not necessarily a problem if they're not transferred along with all the group's content, because one can always direct-add or invite them manually to the main group later, right?]

Well, the members don't have very many options and they are familiar with some already.

Posting messages
Members can post messages in two ways:
  1. Via email: We can assume people know how to send an email. They just send an email to the group address and everyone will get a copy.
  2. Via the web interface: Not much different from webmail (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) or filling out a webform.
Posting photos or files
Traditionally, this used to be done by sending files to a file storage directory and photos to an album directory and then posting a message with a link to the file object or photo object. This requires some learning.

However, everyone has become so used to attaching files and photos to email that it has largely supplanted the previous means in many venues. (Photo albums still serve a useful purpose in that it's useful to have photos on the same topic from many users all populating the same album.

Receiving messages
Set the default message delivery to "Individual messages" so the users get an individual email for every posted message. Informed users who wish to have a digest (collection of messages sent less frequently) can change this setting for themselves. Informed users can also select no mail and visit the website periodically to catch up.

Searching the old messages
People forget (or never learn) this valuable approach. It's straightforward once you attempt it.

I have a problem with calling it an announcement-group when most members of the group
cannot use it to announce things at all.

I guess the group is going to be technical in that it is about programming and electronics. I'm not sure if that will have anything to do with managing the group? I am guessing that more experienced members will help less experienced members? So far, the replies that I have received have indicated that as the group grows (if it does) then it sort of takes care of itself? I probably didn't word that properly. As an owner I expect to have to take care of background technical issues. I expect that I will be made aware of some of those issues by members who want to do something, but find that they do not have permission to do it; which would require me to do something in the settings. Right now, I have no idea what the members may want to do.

If it is a non technical group it could require some hand holding the other difficulty can be screening new members. For example the very first person that made a request to join my new group was a person from a previuos group that created problems with spam
