Re: Where is the permission to make a member an owner
Duane, Thanks for the clarification.? I do think this permission should be off by default.? Peter On Wed, Nov 13, 2019 at 10:19 PM Duane <txpigeon@...> wrote: On Wed, Nov 13, 2019 at 08:34 PM, Peter Dub¨¦ wrote: |
owner vs subscribed email
HI,
I wanted to change my email that I receive emails as, and it asked me to merge with an existing email account, which I agreed then it said it was going to delete my original account, of which I am the owner of several lists. I do not want that deleted, I can't seem to find a way to "undo" the merge. On the merged account it shows me as only a regular member and not the owner. which i need to be. I can still login to my owner account but it told me it was going to delete it.... please do not delete it. it would be nice if we could setup an email address to have messages sent to and a management email address. Some list have a lot of traffic and it would make managing things easier. And I hope my accounts are not going to be deleted.... Any hep or solutions? Alan |

Question: removing a member for spam?
It's unfortunate that ignorant users click "Spam" when they no longer wish to receive messages from a particular source. They see it as producing the desired effect--they no longer see the messages appear in their inboxes. But they are blissfully unaware of the unfortunate side effect--that their mail provider may block the mail to other subscribers who DO want to receive the messages. In this case, the provider did the right thing--caused the user to be unsubscribed--but that's not the general practice. Larry |

Peter,
I had the situation where I made a member a moderator. He was able toIn my opinion this is a bug. An moderator should never be able to apply or remove the Owner role, under any circumstances. Where do I find the permission so a moderator can not make himself anThe guilty permission is Set Moderator Privileges. It doesn't say anything about owners, and it shouldn't allow one to affect owners. But it does. Basic groups can have files, group calendar, photos, wiki, polls, etc.?
They are restricted in amount of storage and you can't have Groups.io transfer your messages, etc. from Yahoo Groups. Re: How to move a group with no owner?
Dale,
We did nearly the same thing with our message.? BUT, I had spend nearly 8 hours+ scrubbing out the Yahoo Ads, SPAM, porn postings, and odd HTML-5 characters from the message archive.? I had then saved the messages into an HTML (takes 3mins on fast connection for 31400+ messages to load). The spread sheet formats open very quickly otherwise.? These are also saved to CVS, then to OpenOffice .ods and finally Office 2013 extended excel format .xlsx This way, one can filter, search and literally pin-point exactly what they need in seconds.??? Our groups is the 2nd largest tractor membership over there with a combined membership over 4,100+ folks.? ? Our group is very old from Prodigy to GeoCities to Yahoo and now Groups.io.? ? PGOffline helped out greatly. ? Bret |
Checking transfer status of group I co-own
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI am a co-owner of a group that paid the premium fee just before it doubled.? I did not upgrade the group or request the transfer. Where can I find the information for/about the transfer and its status?? The only things that show up when I go to "easy group transfer" and then yahoo groups transfer just lists the 2 groups I had previously transferred and does not show the group I co own.? How can I check the status of that group?Thank you. Jim |

Oh by option I meant that IO group removed a member for spam .It is not an Option. It is a simple fact of life based on an industry protocol between mail providers. Groups.io has to choose between stopping sending to addressees where a message has been determined as spam (sometimes by the recipient mail provider) or risk being blocked completely. There is rejoin they can use .Yes, and your members should use it! But Let us determine if soemthing is spam so we can address it to the group . How do you reduce the risk in a group that doesn't even discuss things that are questionable . We should be able to see what was said so we know not to let it happenThat simply won't work; it is an entirely automated process that operates without human intervention. You are right in that it might be something in the message content that is causing difficulty but it equally well might not be. Mail providers operate their own detection algorithms and there is no real chance of knowing what might upset one of them. Did you read the wiki section that Bruce drew to your attention earlier in this thread? There is nothing "secret" about it so by all means either copy it into your own wiki (and draw your members' attention to it!) or post a link to it on your group so that the members can read it; after all it is the members themselves who have to know about it and know what to do and not do to reduce the risk of being removed from membership. I accept that this must seem highly unsatisfactory from your viewpoint, but you must also accept that there is no setting you can alter to make things any different. You will have to do what the rest of us have to do; live with it and learn how to minimise the impact. Doug wrote: I am sure someone here can better explain why this happens than I can. Re: View profile at?/g/<groupname>/profile/@<profilename>
Thanks. That's very useful. This info should really be in the help pages. The following is a rant which doesn't require any specific response: <rant> The ?page at: home ->?myname?-> Account -> Identity -> (Global) Account Profile (defaults) or (Group Profiles -> <group name>) -> Edit doesn't have a title.? It also doesn't tell you whether you're editing the "Account Profile" (really the Global Account Profile defaults), or the account profile for a specific group. When editing the account profile for a specific group, it should say something like "(default)" for the fields which are using the default. Also, if editing the account profile for a specific group, there should be a link to the very nice page you pointed me to. </rant> Ok, I feel better now.? Thanks Ben |
