Re: How to approve "pending" members imported from YG?

Gina,

The number 5 comes from the number of people participating in the new
group. :-)
I don't know what was normal in the Yahoo Group. A high lurker to current participant ratio isn't all that uncommon.

I'm a little surprised that it doesn't "snowball" based on people replying to the posts that are being made.

I suppose it makes sense to double-check the Members list (at Groups.io) to see what delivery the transferred members typically have. If they were mostly No Email lurkers in your Yahoo Group that could be part of the problem.

Yes, I sent a message to the Yahoogroup.
I'd send that message to the Groups.io group. Depending on the nature of your group, maybe take a jovial / cajoling stance to it. "Well, a few of you have joined in, Thanks! The rest of you lurking out there, please join in!"

Or, if you can identify a few individual members who were recently active in the Yahoo Group, but have "gone silent", you could try contacting them off-list to see if they can tell you why.

Re: Missing Transfer

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi¡OK, just went through and ¡°set up new transfer¡± again.? Then clicked the ¡°update¡± button.? (Only option, other than CANCEL)? When all said and done, nothing happens.? No acknowledgment, nothing.

?

Am I missing something?

?

And, when I click on the only transfer I have going (I think) I get the exact same window I did/do when trying to initiate the transfer I am talking about

?

Do have a question:? In the pink section at the top of that window, there is something about [email protected]? What is that?? Won¡¯t I, as the owner of the group and logged in, be the one notified?? (See below)

?

Which group are you referring to?? IO or YG?? I absolutely do not understand.? Obviously.

Joe -- If when you to go to?/yahootransfer, you don't see your Drake group in the list under "View Existing Transfer Status," then you never successfully initiated a transfer for that group.

Click the green "Set Up New Transfer" button and start over at Step 1. Detailed instructions at?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/22617. Be sure to select your destination group from the pull-down menu.

Re: Missing Transfer

Nope, only have 1 email address and login for GIO. How do I initiate a transfer? I thought I did. It is paid for, so should be in the records, somewhere.

Oh, and I never got a reply from 'Bruce'.

Possibly you were logged in using a different email address when you set
up the Heathkit transfer. You can only see the transfers you set up with
the account you are currently logged in with.

Or, as Bruce suggested, perhaps you didn't actually initiate a transfer
for that group.

Re: New members trying to join by email: what did I not tell them?

Brian,

Besides emailing [GroupName][email protected] what did I forget
to say?
After they send in their +subscribe command Groups.io will reply with a request for confirmation. The person must receive, read, and respond to that confirmation request. If not, the subscribe command has no effect.

It doesn't even get logged in the group's Activity log. Which I've argued is a bug, or at least a mistake, but that's how it currently is.

So tell them to keep their eyes open for that confirmation request. Including in their Inbox, Spam or even Trash folder.

How did my lucky sole member manage to do it?
Probably noticed the confirmation request in their Inbox, and followed the instructions.

Thanks, Shal.

The number 5 comes from the number of people participating in the new group. :-)

Yes, I had unchecked that box -- to have groups.io notify them.

I wanted everything to be working properly before it did that.?

Yes, I sent a message to the Yahoogroup.

Re: How to approve "pending" members imported from YG?

Gina,

A suggestion.?Just post a short message. De-scarify it! Something like:

Since YahooGroups has changed its service, we have moved!

To visit our new home, just click on this link to go to our new homepage.
https://GroupManagersForum.groups.io?
(Edit this to use your group's name instead of GroupManagersForum, of course)

All the messages, members and photos are there.

Your email address is your account ID.
Can't login? Just click on?/sendloginlink
Or click on the Email Me A Link button.

Or email the group at?Post: [email protected]
(Substitute your group name or group email address)

See you there soon!

Sign it as usual!?

Cheers,

Re: How to approve "pending" members imported from YG?

Hi Gina,

Only about 5 seem to have gotten the notice from groups.io....out of
1000 original members.
I'm curious, where does that number 5 come from?

If I remember correctly, you said you unchecked the box to have Groups.io notify them during the transfer. So did you send them a notice by some other means?

I've posted several messages in our yahoogroup¡ªexplaining how to
interact with the group, set up a password, etc.¡ªand few respond.
Well, since they are now in your Members list in Groups.io, you could always post messages in your group here. They'll probably catch on pretty fast.

Maybe they are busy...or maybe they're not receiving any of the mail?
My Yahoo Groups seem to be forwarding messages pretty quickly during the last few days - a few seconds to a few minutes. So I'm not really sure.

Photos display order missing an option available in Yahoo Groups

Bill Kay

I miss a feature that is in Yahoo, but isn't in Groups.IO
When you enter groups.io Photo Albums, they are sorted alphabetically.
The Sort choices are sort by title (alphabetically up or down) and Sort by Created date (up or down).
The default on Yahoo Photostream was "Most recent shows first".
When you click on "Albums" the sort order is "most recently changed on top".
I wish groups.io would offer those same options!

Re: Which "custom Welcome notice" will the transfer agent use?

Samuel,

?
- Do you know if the welcome message will form part of it, or will be
sent separately?
Sent separately.
?
That's why there's an option to have no active Welcome notices, or to uncheck the sending of the "you've been added" - some people felt that two emails to the transferred member was one too many. (some thought that even one was too many, but that's another thing).

?
I was also wondering if the members will be added directly
Added directly. Hence You have been added...

?
Also, silly of me, but I have actually received such a message myself
very recently when a group that I'm a member of, joined.? The text of
the message is:
So the key change I'm seeing is that the paragraph about the Updates group has been removed. That sounds familiar, I recall people objecting to it. So I've deleted it from the example. I found the #changelog message where Mark added that to transfers (2017-01-20 ) but not where he took it out again.

Brian; Bruce mentioned the above in one of his posts; did you ever have a look in Activity to see if there was anything there along the lines Bruce suggested?

The "BT mail" point now seems likely to be wide of the mark if your prospective members are not in the UK, although it is not impossible for the same problem to arise with other mail providers. That is why having a look in your activity log might help us work out what is (and is not) happening. Your but the messages I'm seeing are exactly like that, at least for one person hints at your possibly seeing what we are referring to , but it isn't entirely clear. And it isn't a fail for this platform; the problem lies somewhere in the email routing before it gets to Groups.io.

Aah, thanks.

I was also wondering if the members will be added directly or be given an "invitation" to join, since some of the older information that I have read seemed to indicate that that is what will happen. But I see from this example that members are added directly, and then given the option to unsubscribe.

Hello,

The owner of the OLDGROUPNAME Yahoo Group has moved the group to Groups.io, a new Groups service. You have been subscribed to the new group using your email address MYMAILADDRESS. The title of the new group is NEWGROUPNAME user forum, and messages can be sent to it at [email protected]. The group homepage is located [here].

Groups at Groups.io are similar to Yahoo Groups, but we have several new features and we encourage you to explore the Groups.io website. If you have never registered with Groups.io before, your account will not have a password set yet. To log in, you can use the 'Email me a link to login' button to have a link emailed to you that will let you log into the website.

You do not have to do anything to continue being a member of this group. If you do not wish to be a member of NEWGROUPNAME, [click here to unsubscribe] and you will be unsubscribed immediately.

If you have any questions, please contact [email protected].
