Re: Trouble logging in on android phone

I have had no problem to log in from android.
New member should first set up an account with their email and password. It is free.
Then try to subscribe to the group(s)
Should work

I hope you're right about the ease of a refund.? I have my doubts.? When I previously contacted support about something I got a canned response that they were too busy to respond to requests.

Re: auto-subscribe member to subgroup #subscription #subgroups

Derek,

Can I have a new member automatically subscribed to a sub group (or
groups) without me or another moderator having to direct add, or
inviting the member?
It depends:

The direct answer is no, if the person joins the primary group there's no mechanism to automatically join them to a subgroup.

However:

When you use Direct Add in the primary group there will checkboxes for the subgroups to include them in.

If you Invite them to a subgroup, and they accept, I think they will automatically be added to the primary group as well.

If they issue a +subscribe email to the subgroup, or click the Join/Request button on its home page, I think also they will automatically be added to the Primary group. I'm not sure about this one, I seem to recall there being cases where they'd get an error about needing to join the primary group first, but I think Mark fixed that. Maybe.

I'm also not exactly sure what happens if the primary group has restricted membership and the subgroup does not. You probably need to approve them before they're added to either (I should hope).

Re: Growing a group #promotion

I figured out how the text was done, and it was like Duane said. Before I figured how the text was done, it didn't occur to me to try and highlight the blank looking areas. I'm using Chrome as my browser, so I tried using the Find function to see if it would reveal any hidden text. I typed in 'keyword' in Find, and low and behold there was the text! I like that idea, so used that little trick on my home page.

Re: Help with transfer - HELP!!!!!!!!

Sandra--that's where I am, too, with one of my groups.? I have sent NUMEROUS invitations to the new group.io, but groups.io has never responded and joined the yahoo group.? It's really annoying since groups.io took $220 to do the transfer!

Re: Identifying Missing Messages after YahooGroups Transfer?

Great idea comparing the Message History grid.? Many of the discrepancies are matched up in end-of-month mismatches, but several don't.? But bottom line, nothing adds up to 133 missing messages.? It's actually less than 10.

Maybe it has something to do with threads/topics?

In fact, if I switch from Topic view to Message view, the Groups.io count jumps to 13204, which is close enough to the YahooGroups count of 13207 for me.? Thanks for the idea!

Re: Managing Direct Add Membership Query

John,

Does this mean that the Moderation status becomes the group default,
or can it be imported?
What I've done in the past is temporarily change the Default Sub Settings to be what I want for the added members just before doing the Direct Add. And then put it back after. A bit clumsy, I admit, and you could get a misfire if someone joins on their own (or via another moderator) at the same time.

Re: Identifying Missing Messages after YahooGroups Transfer?

Ron,

You can also compare the Message History grid on your groups.io ¡°Home¡± page for your group with the equivalent on the Yahoo site. It¡¯s a bit tedious, but you should be able to determine which months have discrepencies. I did this for my group (11 years, 1300 messages) and found the discrepencies. All were spam that was removed, duplicates, or mismatches in Date sent versus Date received which caused them to appear in a different month.

Although, it¡¯s odd since you¡¯re the only poster, but you should be able to figure it out.

Yes. In Admin>Settings, click the "Export Group Data" button at the top of the page.

Re: Personalgroupware (PG Offline)

Larry,

Our group prefers to use the messages in one large Excel file.? About 9Mb for a mere 32,000 messages.

This way, exported from PGOffline as a CVS file, and then into OpenOffice, and excel file can be made.? This file than can be saved in a files location on Groups.io to download.? The file is easy to search for topics or words or just about anything really.

I have 3 groups merging into 1 here.? PGOffline give the flexibility, but a person must do the leg work to make it all happen.? Reading how these other group are doing direct transfers and their problems, I believe our actions are working better in the long run.

Next to the John Deere tractor group, our tractor group is the second largest at 4,294 members.?
?

Scott,

How exactly do I tell Groups.io that I am ready? Do I click Update
Transfer button?
No, the green "Give Go Ahead to Transfer" button. See the screenshot at the bottom of Step 3 here:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

Step 4 you've accomplished, and when you click that button you should advance to the next screen, as shown in Step 5.

Note that the status message shown at the top of screenshot in Step 5 has been updated to be more informative, but I haven't run another transfer in order to get a fresh screen shot. If anyone out there is running a transfer and would like to send me off-list new screen shots (of any step in that page) I'll be happy to update the page.

subgroups and members of the main group becoming membes of it

Can a subgroup be set up so that all members of the main group can
automatically be members of both the main and sub group once I create
it?

I plan on storing the old Yahoo messages in a subgroup, separate from
the main one.

If this is possible, how is that worked out, and if not, what's the
best way to get everyone to become a member of the subgroup? Some
members will no doubt be PC challenged, as is the case with many
groups.

Re: Refund

Dennis,

How easy is it to get a refund if yahoo continues to change the rules
and glitch and I am not able to transfer a group for which I've
already paid the $220?
Easy. Just contact [email protected]

At this point it seems about the only thing that's likely to stand in your way is if you are unable to invite or promote the transfer agent in your Yahoo Group. See the "Test your ability to promote members in your Yahoo Group" in the Preparation section of GMF's transfer notes:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

The queue of groups waiting to be exported from Yahoo seems to be relatively short, and once past that stage the content that could be read from Yahoo is secure at Groups.io. So you should still have plenty of time before the Yahoo cutoff.

Mr. Bowman,

OK, now I have made the [email protected] member a moderator and returned to the "Existing Transfer"?and I am ready to? transfer, and tell us that you are ready for the transfer to happen. How exactly do I tell Groups.io that I am ready? Do I click Update Transfer button? I just don't want to do something to mess it up. Thanks again.

Important to know...for those who have recently transferred, the attachments were not transferred with your messages.

I know about the messages not counting towards the 1gig allocation. I was hoping that I could delete early messages, thereby deleting any attachments or insertions in them at the same time. There is no point in keeping the messages if the related attachments or insertions are removed anyway.

Sort the messages in inverse date order by clicking the Date link at upper right, then see?/g/GroupManagersForum/message/22411?for instructions on how to delete messages and/or entire topics. It is tedious.

If most of your attachments consist of photos, they might be more efficiently deleted from the Emailed Photos folder.

Re: deleting messages

(Will this happen, or will the attachments stay in storage even though the corresponding message is no longer there?)
I just tested and deleting a topic (or message) deletes the attachment. In Photos, I can see the amount of storage going down after I delete some. Just go to Photos - menu on the left in your group home.

As far a jumping down a list, you can't jump ahead except the small amount displayed but you can change the number of items displayed on the screen. Go to your name in the top right corner. Choose Account, Preferences, change the number for Items per Page. (Some reported problems with infinite scroll.)
Be sure to Update Preferences at the bottom of the page.

I can¡¯t find any way to jump to the oldest message other than change the date order ¡ is that correct?
Just by using the toggle beside word date - the little blue triangle.

Thank you Frances¡

This is an established groups.io group from back in January 2018.

I know about the messages not counting towards the 1gig allocation. I was hoping that I could delete early messages, thereby deleting any attachments or insertions in them at the same time. There is no point in keeping the messages if the related attachments or insertions are removed anyway.

There are no photo albums, just the folder of images inserted in the emails (and I¡¯ve already attempted to delete those on several previous occasions with problems about clicking on an image to open it does not open the selected photo but opens one or 2 further on. This problem has never been resolved despite a couple of emails to Mark a LONG time ago before the current Yahoo debacle, he didn¡¯t even respond to the last one.

There is no Wiki containing photos, no database¡ all I have are messages with attached and/or inserted images.

The files area is only 84 MB in total, so is not really a problem.

I have looked through this groups Wiki and there is nothing (or I can¡¯t find it) which is helpful to my specific request.

So, once again, do I have to open each message to be able to delete it??

Win, good news! Messages don't count as part of your allowance.

What Is Counted Towards The Storage Limits For My Group?

?

The following are counted towards the storage limits for your group:

?

Files

Photos

Images in databases

Images in wiki pages

Message attachments

Messages themselves are not counted towards the storage limits, only any attachments.

Source:
/static/pricing#what-is-counted-towards-the-storage-limits-for-my-group

Removing content is tedious. If you view messages as topics, it is faster. But only remove old ones with attachments. If you migrated from YahooGroups, attachments weren't migrated.

See 5. What gets transferred using the Transfer Agent?

?

Groups.io can transfer message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases. Calendar entries are not copied at this time. Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.

Well, that's kinda what happens anyway.

In the online message archive, only the most recent version of a message will display. But if it's been edited, you can click on the blue Edited tag at upper right to show what changes have been made, and when.

As far as emails are concerned, every time a regular subscriber edits a message, it is sent out again to those who are on Individual Emails delivery. If that is objectionable, you need to train people to get their edits right the first time, or simply disable message editing entirely in your settings (Admin>Settings>Message Policies>Disable Editing Messages).
