Re: Table border not saved on wiki
Bruce,
If you do figure out what's going on please report back. The code that saves the edited page deliberately strips many HTML tags and parameters. Same for the message editor. Same for the code that processes an incoming email message for display. I'm not sure what that code looks like, but it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it is structured as a "whitelist" of things to allow. That's about the only reasonably safe way to handle user-supplied HTML code. Otherwise you run the risk of some clever crook figuring out a code sequence to exploit your web site and/or its users. Re: Is there any way that a group member can hide their email address but not their name when posting?
Michael, I would very much like to see this as an option.?... So if possible please put it higher on the wishes list. To bump this up you'll need to suggest it in the . No one from Groups.io monitors GMF, we're strictly user-to-user. The topic I cited is now locked so you won't be able to reply to it. But nothing stops you from creating a new topic with the same or similar Subject line. It might be useful for you to cite that old topic, as well as the Trello link, just to save the readers of beta from trying to look those up for you. And so they know that you don't need to have the old arguments re-hashed.
I presume they are aware that their email address is divulged only to fellow group members who receive group messages by individual email. That is, it is not divulged on the group's web pages (except to group moderators). On a more short-term basis, perhaps they could be convinced to create an email account at the email service of their choice, and not provide any personal identifiers in the address or name of that account. That would allow them to post without revealing their "real" email address. Granted it is a little inconvenient to manage a second email address just for this purpose, but most email desktop or mobile apps make it pretty simple to manage two or more email addresses from the same user interface. Some webail platforms (such as Gmail) handle this well also. Shal -- Help: /static/help More Help: /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki Even More Help: Search button at the top of Messages list |

Ha!? Great idea about using Bootstrap.? I added a bootstrap class to the page source like this: ? <table class="table table-bordered"> ? ¡using guidelines here ? Initially I also added a link to the boostrap CSS file but that line got stripped out ¨C but it worked anyway! ? So apparently groups.io has a behind the scenes link to boostrap someplace so that bootstrap classes work. ? BTW I did try border=¡±1¡± but it also got stripped out. ? ?[confidentiality notice and overquote removed by moderator] |

Does anyone know how to get the table border lines to save on the wiki?Tom -- Unfortunately, the groups.io wiki editor strips many inline styles. Equally unfathomable, deprecated, non-CSS constructs like <table border="1"> and <img align="right"> seem to survive the edit/save process. I was told some months ago that groups.io itself uses the bootstrap.css style sheet (found in the files area here) in some manner; but even then, the classes I've pulled from there and tried to apply to wiki pages have been very hit-and-miss. You'll need to get another owner to add/invite you, then you can do the rest.? It shouldn't have allowed you to delete the last owner account.? That would be a bug that you need to report to [email protected] with as many details as you can provide.

Table border not saved on wiki
Tom Esker
I copied and pasted a simple Google Sheet (no formulas ¨C just text) to create a new wiki page.? Then I went to table properties and set the border to ¡°1¡±,? ¡°sold¡± and ¡°black.¡±? All looked as expected until I saved - and then the border lines are gone. ? I looked at the source and copied the line: ? <table dir="ltr" style="border-color: #000000; border-style: solid;" border="1"> ? And made a new test page using that line followed by a couple rows and then closed the table.? In the editor and previewed everything looks as expected but after saving, the border lines are gone. ? Does anyone know how to get the table border lines to save on the wiki? ? Thanks ? Tom Esker IT Manager |

New file upload message
Hi,
I uploaded a new file to my group and ticked the box to send out a notification, which worked fine. I didn't want a load of chat tied to the notification message so locked the topic. A bit later, I loaded another file and ticked the notification option again, expecting a new notification for a new file.? No such message was sent and I found that all file uploads trigger the same notification message subject and the fact that I locked the first one prevented the second one from being sent. I can't see any option to add something like a moderated hashtag to the notification and while I could moderate the notification message, that would mean a manual effort of dealing with any replies and also having to moderate the next notification message if it outside the 2 day window of the threading algorithm. I guess I'm looking for an easy way to encourage members to start a new thread if they have any queries about an uploaded file as I feel that any discussions on those will get lost amongst multiple notification messages with the same subject. Thoughts welcome. Andy |

How does CHATS operate?See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Chat-Overview and also?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/23482824. Better yet, try it. Generally, you open a chat, select a topic, and if you click the corresponding checkbox, it creates a one-time email notification to the group. Subscribers must log in and join the chat via the "Chats" entry in the left-side menu bar. For each chat, there is only one chat window, so you cannot see what others are typing in real time...only what they finally submit. There is an auto-refresh, but not all browsers seem to recognize it, so you may have to manually refresh your screen every so often. And it often happens that people will join a chat to see what's going on but not type anything. Unlike Facebook messaging, there is no indicator to show that anybody is composing a response.? My club has attempted to use a chatroom to hold ad hoc board meetings, but folks struggled with the user interface and messages crossed in the ether and there was no way to really chair the meeting...so that was pretty much a disaster. We also maintained an open chat for about a month where subscribers could post things that they didn't necessarily want to be emailed to the whole group. People checked in, and said things like "this is kinda cool"...but the novelty soon wore off and I eventually closed it due to inactivity. ? Generally speaking, I'm not impressed; but the very nature of the feature is pretty limited, so I don't have any suggestions for improvement, either. If you have a long list of subscribers and many of them use the web interface it might work out better for you, but it seems unlikely that groups.io can compete with Skype, or that Mark is really motivated to try. Hope this helps, Bruce -- The system Help is your friend.??/static/help |

It also means that messages sent to your group from non-members with a Hotmail address will be rejected (even if you have Allow Non Members to Post set in Admin > Settings > Message Policies). Re: "Followups-to" control - does Groups.io support it (or its function)

Duane,
? ? ? ? ? ?Thanks, but that's not what I'm looking for. ? ? ? ? ? ?The group already has a chat subgroup, and what we're trying to do is to get the membership to ask themselves whether what they're about to post actually deals with the main group topic and, if not, use the chat group for it instead.? ?Groups.io does not, to my knowledge, have a mechanism like I'm accustomed to at Bleeping Computer where a moderator can take a topic and shuttle it to another forum (subgroup or main group within a cluster, in the case of Groups.io).? ?The only current option is locking with a message that said topic should be initiated on the subgroup.? I was hoping that, as part of a lock message, I might be able to include a Follow-up To of some sort and say that if you reply to this message the topic will automatically continue on the Chat subgroup, rather than having to be created manually. ? ? ? ? ? ? The group/subgroup implementation on Groups.io is sorely in need of improvement in my opinion.? It has such great potential, but subgroups are essentially hidden from the main group if all you visit is the messages page for a group.? This can't really be remedied on the e-mail side, but these things could be a lot more visible on the web side, and the ability to shuttle content here and there within any group/subgroup structure would be a major improvement. -- Brian?-?Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1809, Build 17763?? ? ? ?Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?~ George Santayana |
Re: Deleting the Primary Group
A further consideration is that member notices can be generated with the group name in the subject and message text so you will need to manually update these.
