Re: Managing photo albums

1: easy; go to the album and delete it. As an Owner / Moderator that option is automatically available to you.

2: not possible AFAIK. Albums are ordered alphanumerically, not chronologically. Edit an album title and it will appear elsewhere in the list purely on the basis of its spelling or numbering. There cannot be a reverse chronological order because there isn't a "forward" one.

Managing photo albums

Hi,

1. How may I, as the Group Owner, delete an old photo album?

2. Is there any way of ordering photo albums in reverse chronological order so that newer albums appear first?

Good to know, thanks.

Re: Subgroups not listed on groupsl home page

Eldin,

I'm pretty sure that until recently all of the subgroups that I created within my group were listed on the main groups homepage.

Yup. Beta , first bullet.
?
I can click on the "Subgroups" menu item to see the subgroups that I'm a member of but can no longer see just a simple list of subgroups on the home page.

That page includes all subgroups, which isn't obvious if you happen to be a member of all of them. Or, I suppose, are a member of so many that the first list fills the visible portion of the page.

Subgroups not listed on groupsl home page

Eldin Rammell

I'm pretty sure that until recently all of the subgroups that I created within my group were listed on the main groups homepage. This enabled any member of the group to see if they also wanted to jon a subgroup. However, my subgroups no longer appear to be shown. I can click on the "Subgroups" menu item to see the subgroups that I'm a member of but can no longer see just a simple list of subgroups on the home page.

Is this a change in functionality? Is it a bug? Can I change my group settings to reinstate this feature?

Thanks.

Re: Date Order for Photos

Mike,

This is an on-going problem for my groups as well.? Can someone please post this need on the Beta list ... with an "Urgent" request?

Why "someone"? Anyone can join and post on beta. When you do you can cite this "to do" item:

(The Photostream in Y!Groups is what wunder suggests: an automatic ¡°All Photos¡± folder, sorted by date.)

Perhaps an automatic ¡°All Photos¡± folder would fix this.

The member's experience will vary according to their email service provider. Some, like Gmail, apparently never send such reports back to Groups.io and so their users never get unsubscribed for this. On the other hand Yahoo Mail and AOL seem to be particularly aggressive about delivering Groups.io messages to their users' Spam folder, and then send a report as if the user marked the message as Spam.

On the Wiki page Duane cited we've been making a list of the email services that have been seen to cause such unsubscriptions. Feel free to add to that list if any of your members have been unsubscribed for spam and use a service not yet listed there.

Re: Handling changed email address with #yahoo #transfer

Dan,

1)? I read in on the of the threads here about a "transfer form" that seems to have more choices than what I filled in to get started.? is that true and when in the process does this form appear?

Review this (still a work in progress) Wiki page if you haven't already:
/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups

When you go to the Yahoo Groups Instructions page there's a green Start New Transfer button at the bottom. To the right is an In Process drop-list of any Yahoo Group names for which you have a transfer In Process. Selecting a group from that list, or if you have none clicking the green button, brings you to the form being discussed.

2)? Many of my Yahoo Group members have an email address in Yahoo other than the one we want in IO.? ...? So, what is best practice for getting the IO group to have correct email addresses and when in the process do we do this?

The very best might be to have them switch to their preferred email addresses before initiating the group transfer. But that's a rather onerous task for them with Yahoo's current status.

So I would say the best practice is to let those members be copied over using their Y!Group subscription addresses as they are. Then after the transfer is complete it is relatively easy for each member to edit their email address in their Groups.io account. That will update their group subscription to the new address.

The reason for the above two approaches is to maintain the member's "ownership" of any content they had contributed to the Y!Group (messages, files, photos, etc.) - the ownership is linked to their subscription address in the Yahoo Group and, after transfer, in the Groups.io group.
?
Is there a mapping feature as part of the transfer process where we can say "Change Yahoo email from xxxxxxx to yyyyyyyyy in IO??

No.
?
Can we do the transfer without transferring users (just conversations, images, etc.) and manually create users with the correct emails??

You could, but then all of their content (they being any email address not in the Groups.io group at the time the content is copied over) would be orphaned from their subscription and re-attributed to you (the logged in email address that initiated the transfer).
?
PS - roughly what is the current Queue time from requesting a Transfer till the Yahoo Invite is accepted???

Uncertain. Groups.io (Mark) is working through a backlog that was about 400 deep as of last Thursday.

Re: Mistake: member unsubscribed from group?

Paula,
I would send them a note from your personal email. The reason is that the notice from Groups.io will most likely go to the spam folder where it will be deleted when they empty the spam folder, I've seen this happen several times in my group.

In most cases, by the time they get my message, they have deleted the Groups.io rejoin message as spam. I have a premium group so I just add them back. If you have a normal group, you need to send them an invitation to join, but make sure they don't delete the invitation as spam.

The sad part is that even after going through this process, I've had a few members who empty the spam folder with Groups.io messages and they get booted again. After two times, I don't bother with them.

Lastly, almost all of the Spam deleted members had Yahoo, Aol and Hotmail addresses. No Gmail accounts.

AFAICS this only works within each photo album. I understood the request was to be able to sort the Photo albums by a given key. Currently they are given in alphabetic order.

Handling changed email address with #yahoo #transfer

Hi,? Still waiting for IO to accept my Yahoo group invite, but trying to get my head around some of the nuances.?

1)? I read in on the of the threads here about a "transfer form" that seems to have more choices than what I filled in to get started.? is that true and when in the process does this form appear?

2)? Many of my Yahoo Group members have an email address in Yahoo other than the one we want in IO.? Some already had Yahoo accounts with the old email address when they joined the group, some thought they had to create a Yahoo Email account to use the group (Y! pushed them in this direction), etc.? I would say that about 1/3 of the email addresses in Yahoo need to be changed.? So, what is best practice for getting the IO group to have correct email addresses and when in the process do we do this?? Is there a mapping feature as part of the transfer process where we can say "Change Yahoo email from xxxxxxx to yyyyyyyyy in IO?? Can we do the transfer without transferring users (just conversations, images, etc.) and manually create users with the correct emails?? Other strategy?

Re: owner getting every message posted

Things just got weirder. I have another account I used to do testing with, which had moderator access. I changed it to owner access and now it's ALSO getting individual postings. Its subscription is set to Special Notices.

Re: Mistake: member unsubscribed from group?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Paula, this is the Achilles heel of IO for owners/moderators in my opinion. IO does not tolerate any of their messages going to spam. They have a good reason for it but as soon as the spam notification comes to IO, poof, the member is unsubscribed. Certainly they send a message to the member how to rejoin once the member fixes the spam problem but many/most of my members are not computer savvy and they can¡¯t figure out how to fix it since the problem could be in their local Email program like Outlook, in their accessible Email provider site like my Comcast or some benevolent act by their provider before the message even gets into their view.

?

Out of 800 I had 50 bombs within the first couple of days and I still have dozens to sort out one by one for which are address problems and which are spam responses. It is an albatross around my neck. L

?

There has been much discussion on this forum and the links given you should answer most of your question, else search the archive for lots of this-topic messages.

Good luck.

The group I own was officially transferred today. [Hurrah!] I didn¡¯t think that with a group of nearly 600 members and 16 years of posts it would be such an easy transfer.

That being said, I received a notification from groups.io:

¡°This is to notify you that NAME OF MEMBER has been unsubscribed from your group NAME OF GROUP because a message to them was marked as spam. Note that this may have been done by their email service provider, not by the individual member personally.¡±

Our group has discussions that are led by panelists. This notification was about one of our panelists. I sent him an invitation to rejoin the group. Will that fix the problem? Is there something more I should do?

If you can get the contents in Unix Mailbox (mbox) format then Mark should be able to upload them for you. That's the same format currently used for message archive export. You would have to subscribe your members separately.

See?

I don't know what priority he might give this request vs existing Y!Gs and other projects. Last I heard he was working on a full-group export function...something I would dearly love to see for backup/continuity purposes.

Re: Mistake: member unsubscribed from group?

There's no need for you to send them anything.? When this happens, they'll get an email from the site explaining what happened that includes a link to resume membership.? You do need to let folks know about this possibility.? There are several threads here about this very thing, along with a page in the Wiki, /g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Removed-for-spam
