Import group from Mailman

Hi Folks,?

I've searched high and low yet I have not been able to locate any recent updates on migrating a Mailman list into Groups.io. I found a post here (/g/GroupManagersForum/message/2275) suggesting there was work being done but it was still a manual process as of September of 2017.? The post further suggested emailing Mark at the support email address which I have done.??

The problem is I sent the email February 26th and I did receive the auto-reply containing a request # but I have received no further response.? I replied again on March 6th but still no response.

I would very much like to migrate our existing group or at least get the message archives imported here.? I can export the group members and import them here once the message archives are moved, but I would like the archives in place before adding all the members.? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you,
Don

Date Order for Photos

? When searching for images in Photos it would be VERY helpful to be able to
sort them by DATE.? Many times we are looking for some picture or other
that has only recently been added ... and when you don't know the name of
the album ...?

Re: owner getting every message posted

Thanks, Shal. Here are the answers. I have also attached a pdf of the "show original" message from gmail.

1) Do the individual emails have the standard group footer at the bottom?
Yes.
2) Are you receiving them in your Gmail user interface?
Yes.
3) Does Show original show a single To address, or multiple? Does it show any CC addresses?
Single.
4) What is that (are those) address(es)?
[email protected]?
5) Are you also getting a digest for the primary group?
Yes.

Re: owner getting every message posted

They are messages.
I believe I can mute, but I'll confirm.?
These are both initial and replies.

Re: owner getting every message posted

My apologies. I realized as soon as I sent the shots that they were way too big. I thought I followed up with smaller ones but I don't see them here.

Re: Wait list for RSVPs #calendar

According to the information I found:? A wait list is automatically created when the event fills up, so no further YES replies are accepted.? If a YES becomes a NO, the first one on the wait list is accepted, provided it won't overfill the event if there are guests.? If the first waiter has guests that would overfill, I'm not sure if it would go to the next one on the list that wouldn't overfill it.? If yours aren't working like this, you should contact [email protected]

Wait list for RSVPs #calendar

Southenders Admin

I'm looking for info on RSVPs. I'm trying to make them more useful to my group, as we have lots of events and some fill up. We need to be able to set up wait lists. That means knowing the time that a member RSVPd, and creating an email response to let these people know the event has filled up. While I can pull up time from the activity log, it's not an easy answer for advising the member of his status.
?
Any help from other users would be appreciated. Otherwise I'll ask for help in the beta group.

This is a feature of the premium group, for those unfamiliar with it.

Re: owner getting every message posted

Southenders Admin

Peter, next time you send a screen shot, you might want to crop all your other tabs out.

Are the messages calendar events or messages?

Can you mute the message or topic?

Are they initiating messages or replies?

Re: size limit ?

Bonnie,

And another reason is that a member of my group sent a post to our IO
group & to our old y'g group. The y'g post had music in it but the
same message that came thru the IO group did not have the music so I
thought maybe it had possible gotten stripped out.
If you check your group's messages section, is the music attachment included on the message there?

If not, the group is likely set to Strip attachments. The other possibility is that the Normalize HTML Emails function might not pass music attachments. It does pass images.

If the music attachment is in the message in the group's Messages section, then perhaps you didn't receive it in your email because you have set a size limit on attachments (advanced preferences in your subscription page).

Re: owner getting every message posted

Pete,

All messages are going to the main group.

After resetting the subscription settings the same thing is still
happening. <sigh>
Recapping the unknowns:

1) Do the individual emails have the standard group footer at the bottom?

2) Are you receiving them in your Gmail user interface?

3) Does Show original show a single To address, or multiple? Does it show any CC addresses?

4) What is that (are those) address(es)?

5) Are you also getting a digest for the primary group?

Bruce, please understand I am not trying to push a limit but am wanting to help my members not to cause a bounce.

Is there a limit to how large a message can be & still go thru a groups.io group?
If you want a message to reach everyone in the group (and that's kinda the point, isn't it?), it has to comply with the requirements of all intermediate mail servers. It's nice that groups.io will forward huge messages, but it does little good if it creates a bounce-fest downstream.

For that reason, I have set max attachment size to 5MB in our group settings as a default. Bigger attachments are stored on the server and forwarded as links. See Admin->Settings->Default Sub Settings->Max Attachment Size. This setting applies to the total of all attachments in any given message. It also means that if anybody wants to access such file(s), then they have to log in.

I realize that most servers will forward larger messages than this, and limits are going up all the time. Still, I have made it clear to my subscribers that they send messages much bigger than this -- or change this setting in their group delivery preferences -- at their own risk.?

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Re: owner getting every message posted

Right, I should have clarified that. There are no messages going to the subgroup. I just set it up and we're not using it. All messages are going to the main group.

After resetting the subscription settings the same thing is still happening. <sigh>

The other key failing of Groups.io's Activity log is that the Search feature here does not do partial matches - e.g. you must search for the entire email address

For an email address, you must include everything before the @, or the name plus the @, or the entire thing.? I agree it would be better if it could do an even less extensive partial though.

Re: question about the feature "activity"

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Shal, Duane, Chris, Bob,

?

I think I will bring this up in Beta. I really miss this feature of seeing all the activities concerning the membership of a person or various persons (and nothing else but their membership). After the transfer this was and still is an extremely important feature for me in yg because I can find out quickly the date when a person joined or left the group and ¨C very important ¨C changed their email address. It makes it a lot easier to identify members.

?

I still have the old group, and the activity log there is really helpful. But this of course only concerns members before the transfer, and now a new age has begun. So hopefully Mark can do this for groups.io as well¡

?

Thanks for answering!

Greetings

Victoria

Re: Accuracy of Yahoo Member List Export? #addmembers

John,

I'm still curious why the "First Name" and "Last Name" fields shown in
the Y! group list aren't included in either of the exports.
That's interesting. I don't know, maybe the UI is looking those up from some other table based on one of the fields that is there.

I had never cleared "bouncing" members from the Y! group, so I did
that prior to initiating the transfer, though I did take an export
that included them.
That was unnecessary work on your part. The transfer agent skips bouncers anyway.

If that will create any kind of an issue during the "easy transfer" of
old Y! group content, I could temporarily "Direct Add" them here.
The only issue I'm aware of is that any content "owned" by them (any subscription email address not in the Groups.io group at the time of the transfer, or copied in with it) will end up attributed to you, the logged in address that initiated the transfer.

Direct Adding them before the transfer would "fix" that, but it isn't clear to me that it would be worth the effort.

Also, Kudos for making server responses for email non-delivery
available - it made my explanation to those affected more convincing.
Kudos go to Groups.io, and specifically to Mark Fletcher. He doesn't read this group. If Groups.io had any other employees (which is bound to be true at some point) I don't know if any of them would read GMF. Probably not until there's someone dedicated to a support role.

Re: Display Name Locked - Bug or Feature? #display-name

Mike,

It may be by design but why not restrict the same to the open
sub-groups? This inconsistent implementation acroos open and
restricted groups is more the issue, IMHO.
I'm not seeing any inconsistency.

The member or mod can edit a member's Display Name in the primary group, but not in any subgroups. This appears to be true regardless of whether the subgroups have open or restricted membership.

Re: question about the feature "activity"

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Chris,

On a related point which of the drop - down list is "Posted Message"?

For messages that didn't require moderation there's Accepted message, for those that did there's Moderated message. So you may have to search two actions. Oh, and maybe Edited message and Edited message without sending to the group.

And of course there's all of the error cases for messages that weren't accepted.

At least for this there's the Message Activity tab to gather all of those. But that leaves out the disposition of a Moderated message - for that you must turn to the Moderator Activity or All Activity tab to find Approved pending message, Deleted pending message, and Rejected pending message. Interesting, there does not appear to be an Edited pending message.

Re: question about the feature "activity"

Victoria,

I just saw that member activities which lie before the transfer date
do not appear. Is this normality?
Yes. The transfer agent does not copy the Y!Group's activity logs.
