Re: unmask emails in Calendar?

Thanks Duane,

As many of us do, I have an extra "testing" address to see what things look like when you aren't an owner or moderator. This particular email address - in the "description" part of an event - was hidden for both of them, including my owner account. But I'm glad to know there is a work-around. Maybe it was a one-time quirk, but in any case, we can live with a space in there!

Re: I was unsubbed

I have no spam filter.? MY isp has none.? I know this because I called them and requested to have access.? There is no spam filter. ??I can't empty what I don't have.

Also I did not mark as spam anything in io.? I was incredibly careful as to what I clicked on in there so I would not hurt my group.

? I will follow the link you sent.? Thanks.? dash

Hi Dash,

Looks like you marked a Groups.io post as spam or a post got diverted to spam by your ISP and then you emptied your spam folder. When this happens, you automatically get unsubbed and receive the message. Be sure to re-subscribe within the 3 days.

Re: Mute Hashtags?

The only way for you to control whether a hashtag can be unmutable is to set it as a Special Notice, /static/help#hashtags-1.? You might want to suggest this possible option on the beta group, the "official suggestion box" for the site.

I must be being particularly thick, but I can't find a place to change the status of a hashtag to "unmutable".? This topic is exercising my mind as it fits into our thoughts about how to manage the implications of GDPR in the UK.

Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Ttansferred Members & Introductory Message

My mistake.? It's actually even easier, just select the last box "Send a message to your members when the transfer is complete" when starting the transfer.? You could also set up a Welcome Notice if you want to make it more 'personal'.

Re: Transferring Yahoo Lists to SubGroups

Each will be a separate transfer, so you will specify the From and To for each one on the Start New Transfer form when you give the go-ahead for them to start.? I'd do the main group and wait for it to complete before doing the others to prevent possible complications.? Don't forget that [email protected] will need to be a moderator of each of the Y groups before you start.

Re: Ttansferred Members & Introductory Message

You could put it in the Welcome notice and make sure to select that to be sent when doing the transfer.? You could change it to something more appropriate for new members after the transfer is complete.

Any size image can be posted. If it's over the limit, it will be rescaled.

Whether image rescaling is turned on -- and whether/how it is communicated to the subscribers -- is a decision that's best left to the group owner. Personally, I'm writing a FAQ document for our group that communicates this and much more. I also have a series of custom Member Notices that I can send to individuals as needed. Others may prefer to use the group wiki. Your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, objects in mirror may be closer than they appear.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Ttansferred Members & Introductory Message

Do transferred members, as from YahooGroups, receive a copy of the introductory message?

I can post it when all the members have been transferred but I¡¯m just wondering if I need to do this. Since members are transferred in stages on large lists, It would mean posting it several times.

Photo image maximum sizes not visible to members

As a list owner and moderator of several lists on groups.io I have been able to determine (and set) the maximum image sizes for photos in files, databases and messages.
However as a list member I have been unable to determine what size images I can post.? Shoouldn't this be displayed somewhere?

?A third possibility, and this actually happened in my group after the transfer (about two years ago), is that you forewarned to someone else a link to login sent to you by , they used it and gained access to your account (possibly completely unknowingly), and (as you) requested removal from the group.

To be fair we don't know what they say now; the messages were changed 21/22 March. The quoted message certainly doesn't match the old version, and I hope against hope that it isn't the new version. (As an aside I am still awaiting a copy of that to put in the wiki.)

At the same time the suggestion that you unsubscribed yourself may not be true; see my previous post about the precise wording: You have been unsubscribed... Not the correct wording if someone unsubscribes themself.

Dash; have you contacted your co - owner; he / she should have received a message as well; what did that say?

There was a bug awhile back where if you forwarded a message to someone else, in certain cases they could get access to your account and even request (as you) to leave the group. If actually happened to me once in the GMF group. I got the notice I had been removed with three days to resume. Mark fixed that bug but there may be a similar one floating arojnd. Are you aware of cc¡¯ing anyone on a messsge, or forwarding one to anyone?

Transferring Yahoo Lists to SubGroups

I¡¯m read to transfer a bunch of groups along with their archives from YahooGroups. One group is the main group and the rest are subgroups.

The main group and the subgroups are set up in groups.io

What is the best way to tell Mark where things go? All in the same email or separate? Or other?

Re: Renaming group

Yes, change the name on the email address line.? You may also want to change the Subject Tag further down the page, and possibly in the Welcome message that was automatically generated when it was created.

You should have the same options for transferring/copying information from B to the subgroup as when transferring/copying from A to the main group.? It will be 2 separate transfers.? You'll need to create and set up the subgroup before anything can be transferred to it.

Hashtags must be on the subject line with a space on either side.

I checked on a couple of my groups and the email address isn't masked within Event descriptions/details.? BTW, a single space after the @ works here, for emergencies.

Correction; not removed by a moderator (which I just posted). You left the group on your own.

I cannot comment on how that might have happened, but as worded it makes no sense at all. You have been unsubscribed clearly suggests that someone else took an action that unsubscribed you, so to then say If this was a mistake, you can resume your subscription... is bizarre. If it was someone else's action that caused it, it ought to be that person to whom the sentence is addressed, not you. Had it started "You have been unsubscribed" from... then the rest of the message would make sense, but it doesn't.

Given that this is not the first time the wording of a "standard message" from (as opposed to a Group Owner / Moderator) has caused confusion within the last 10 days or so perhaps it is time to make a request that all "standard messages" should be visible for review by Owners and Moderators to make sure there aren't any others that are less than 100% clear in their meaning.

Regards,

Chris
