Re: Posting as Owner / Moderator
Chris,
Obviously there are no hard and fast rules about when to post as Owner but my own interpretation is to distinguish the message as relating to the operation or management of the group as distinct from normal traffic. That's what I'm after as well. ? I would prefer my name to be replaced by Owner / Moderator or something like that so that the members can see the distinction more easily. I'd be ok with no Display Name at all - just the bare +owner address. I think every email interface would display that in place of the Display Name. When I form that address myself I usually write it as (for example) GMF Moderator <[email protected]> That's almost the same as Subject Tag Moderator, but I wouldn't want the traditional [square brackets] used in our actual Subject Tag. Deluxe would be to have a separate Display Name as admin field in each moderator/owner's subscription page, or maybe on the Group Profile tab of that page. ? ... but if this discussion is to be converted into a #Suggestion on betagroups then there is going to have to be something that looks like a consensus first. That's not a formal requirement of course, anyone can chime in on beta on their own behalf, but it would be a courtesy to Mark if we iron something out here first rather than have an extended discussion there. to look in her spam or junk folders? I often tell my list members to do this, and normally the missing emails are there.

Re: Changing email address
Has she gone back into her account to verify that her email address has changed and that it is not the same as it was before?
If it hasn't changed then perhaps she forgot to click on "Save". I have an email address query of my own, and this is as good a place to put it as any. I haven't tried tinkering but my reading of the situation is that while Display Names can be set per Group, a person can only have one email address covering all their transactions with different Groups. I have based this belief on the fact that an email address is edited from "Account" accessed from the drop down menu from a member's name at the right hand side of the top bar, which implies that it is Groups.io wide, not per Group. Is that belief correct or not? Regards, Chris |
Changing email address
One of my members changed her email address, but then did not receive the confirmatory email that she expected.
Any ideas how to sort this out, please. Access to Files
Several of my members are having problems accessing Files, although I have set Files to be accessible and downloadable by all subscribers.
Apparently they are being told they are not allowed. Has anyone any ideas how I can sort this out for them? Re: Posting as Owner / Moderator
I am far from certain that we (in this case meaning the Owner & Moderators of a group for which I am one of the latter) actually want to post as Owner anonymously because we always sign them anyway, often with 3 names. (Members who forget to "sign" their posts often find a "please sign your posts" added to their message before it is released. Persistent offenders have their posts rejected until they comply.)
Obviously there are no hard and fast rules about when to post as Owner but my own interpretation is to distinguish the message as relating to the operation or management of the group as distinct from normal traffic. I would prefer my name to be replaced by Owner / Moderator or something like that so that the members can see the distinction more easily. I would still sign the message either with my own name or all 3 as mentioned above, but of course my view is only one amongst many on this forum. Any further suggestions? The ability to Reply as an Owner seems to be agreed amongst those who have commented, but if this discussion is to be converted into a #Suggestion on betagroups then there is going to have to be something that looks like a consensus first. Groups.io supports subgroups. A subgroup is a group within another group. When viewing your group on the website, you can create a subgroup by clicking the 'Subgroup' tab on the left side. The email address of a subgroup is of the form [email protected].
?
Subgroups have all the functionality of normal groups, with the exceptions that to be a member of a subgroup, you must be a member of the parent group, and you cannot invite people to join subgroups.
?
Once a person is a member of the parent group, they can subscribe directly to the subgroup if it's permitted, they can be added directly to the subgroup, or they can ask to join the subgroup if it is restricted. Frances |
Re: Questions on SubGroups
Hi Beth,
Re: #6 - Help says: How Can I Invite People To Join My Group?
Groups.io provides an invite system, where you can submit the email addresses of your members. We will send an email invitation to each user. To join the group, each member simply has to click on the link within the invitation, or reply to the invitation.
You can track each invitation and see whether it's been accepted or not.
?
If you wish to directly add your members to your group without the invitation step, we offer that feature (called direct add) with our premium groups. Source: ?/static/help Frances [Mod Note: subgroups allow Direct Add of primary group members even in Basic (free) groups. But it isn't bulk] |
Questions on SubGroups
I'm trying to figure out how to best organize the move from numerous Yahoo groups over to one integrated groups.io group.? I'd like to extensively use subgroups, but I have some questions.? I browsed through the other messages posted, but still need to clarify some questions.
1. A group can have unlimited subgroups, but subgroups can not have their own subgroups correct?? (Hint, that would be very helpful for a future enhancement) 2. Does the subgroup inherit the settings of the main group? 3. Is there a way to bulk add all members of the group to a subgroup? 4. A subgroup can be renamed, but there seems to be a delay on the email address hitting the "new" subgroup; they tend to get lost for a while.? Is it OK to rename the subgroup (thinking of dividing data by meeting date as an example). 5. After the subgroup has been renamed, can the old subgroup name be used over and over (again meeting types of data - have a subgroup named CurrentMeeting and after the meeting is over rename to JanMeeting, then recreate CurrentMeeting to use again) - is there a better way? 6. I have created a test group with subgroups.? I have added several members to the group and subgroup and tried to send messages - both through "new topic" and email.? The members aren't getting the emails - just the owner. Any ideas what I haven't set up correctly (e.g. stupid mistakes to look for) Many thanks for the help.? Beth |

Yes. Contact [email protected] and explain the situation. The response will tell you more. There was a problem when I transferred one of my groups a year ago?and the system ran into an unexpected problem.?I contacted support and a?rerun of the file transfer resolved the problem.?It may be a case where things just weren't allowing the agent to copy the files, or there may be a different?problem.

?
I would *never assume that* until talking with support. The wording suggests it might just clean out everything that was transferred. That's probably not something you want to do without being certain. Remember that you're talking with a person when dealing with support, not an automated system. You will get useful answers.

Re: How do I make [email protected] a moderator to my group?
I suspect this may be a problem with a number of group transfers that get hung up. I read a lot of questions here about problems transferring groups over, and there are a lot of suggestions made, but too often this basic question doesn't get asked. Did you make 'transfer' a moderator on your YAHOO group?InterestingYou have to invite transfer to your YAHOO group,Ok. I will try that. Thank you. Not everyone seems to understand that 'transfer' *already* has access to groups.io groups because it's a system process. But it needs to be given moderator authority on the old **Yahoo** group in order to read full email addresses on the membership list and determine ownership on messages and files that need to be transferred.
