You have to have a Restricted group (members require approval) and receive notifications when there are pending members.? The notification will include the IP and possibly location of the applicant.

As Ken stated, doing so is kinda closing the corral gate after the horses have already gotten out. Although the privacy setting will help, there's nothing to keep other group members from forwarding
