You do have another option.? In Thunderbird, I see the sender's address in the "From" line.? All I did in this case was to copy that address and paste it into this message as a "Cc:".?? Of course, that doesn't work if you have the sender's address hidden.

Re: re footer in emails

I tried the "Reply to Group" option in the email and it did bring up a blank message in Thunderbird with the group in the TO: blank.? However, to get it to quote part of your message (see below), I had to use the "Reply" in Thunderbird which automatically sends it to the group.? Highlighting the text works with the Reply in Thunderbird, but not when replying using the "Reply to Group" within the email itself.

I get individual emails for all my groups (as a member), and I don't mind the footers...I use them to get to the group site when I want to view photos or files. Otherwise, I'm just reading messages in gmail, which works fine for me. The footers don't bother me...except when I have to delete numerous ones when I'm clipping in my reply to a thread! Minor annoyance, then.

I've been looking all over the settings page and doc but can't find where you turn off the default footer with all the message management links. I see where you can add footer text but not where the "Groups.io Links" can be removed. The footers doc page has good detail on what links are there and what their for but not how to turn them off.

The challenge is that folks using Gmail (and the like) get reams of duplicate footers in the message history as folks with various mail clients and settings reply. If footer were all one line or something that might ok (though still a challenge on mobile). For most of our users, they either use the site to interact with the group or they use their mail app's send/reply to interact. For changing settings they can just go to .

Guidance greatly appreciated.

I first reported the problem a year ago, on 10/20/19, in the midst of the Great Migration from Yahoo! Groups. The topic thread, which somehow doesn't have my original post, is /g/GroupManagersForum/topic/problem_replying_in/35484913. The thread is littered with red herrings and wild goose chases. Pablo Sanchez submitted a Thunderbird bug report, but it was never acted on. See /g/GroupManagersForum/message/19756.

The bottom line is that, in all versions of Thunderbird on Windows and Macintosh going back at least a year, attempting to use the Reply to Group and Reply to Sender footer links in either an individual message or in a digest fails. A new tab opens in Thunderbird labeled "Loading..." and nothing further happens. My diagnosis is that the mailto: link (which includes a Subject as well as the appropriate e-mail address) is not encoding the Subject properly. By hovering over the link, you can see that the Subject displays actual spaces (and other special characters) instead of using the proper ASCII codes (%20 etc.). Apple Mail, Gmail, and other e-mail clients do the proper URL encoding using the percent sign with two hexadecimal digits.

The only straightforward workaround I can come up with for Reply to Group or Reply to Sender in a digest is to use the Groups.io web interface, which is still daunting for some members. I would love it if Shal, a veteran Thunderbird user, would chime in on this.

Bob -- The Directory is an index of profiles, not subscriptions. Only those Members who have created a profile and shared it can use the Directory, and then only to contact others who have done the same. You cannot create a profile for them.

If you want everyone to see everyone without jumping through these hoops, you have to make the Member List available. This option is only available to Restricted groups.

Of course, as Owner, you get to see everyone, whether they create a profile or not.

Bruce

Sending an email to a member / directory visbility #email #directory

I am having trouble with members seeing the directory and / or sending emails to other members.

I am converting from Yahoo right now. I am the owner.? We only have six people in the pilot group right now.

My members (not owners and not moderators) can not see the entire directory, much less send an email? message to another member. All they can see is me, the owner.? (I am NOT referring to the member list, which I have restricted to owners and moderators). As the owner, of course i can see the whole thing.??

Is there a way for a member to see the whole directory and send an email to anybody in there?? We only allow owners and moderators to post.? TY.
