Re: Can we disable 'Likes'?
#featurerequest
I CLICKED via the digest email, hit the LIKE and now a DRAFT was created.?? At one time, I had 67 Drafts just on the GMF alone.? It's a pain to just go thru each one to delete.? So, I just let them roll now.?
? Do a LIKE, get a DRAFT for FREE.?? Not worried about it, not my problem.? It sure seems like a BUG. ? |

What I don't like about the "Like" button is that it will get people to stop responding and just hit the button.

Re: yG Privacy Dashboard download

That was exactly the problem.? I was thinking the script, during execution, was checking the status of the user on Groups.io, but realized it is checking the user status as shown in the memberlist.csv file.? I hadn't retrieved a new file, yet.? Once I did that, the problem was resolved.
Thank you. |

If that weren't included, it would use jsmith@.? Members can always change this later if they want, so it's not good to depend on it. I did a search of the GMF archive for "DFAT", and this thread is the only one that contains "DFAT".? Nor is it defined in the wiki.? So, what is "DFAT"?

There is no available example for these buttons, but something along these lines should work: <form action="mailto:[email protected]?Subject='Joining%20SUBGROUPNAME' " method="GET">

</form> Embed this in your join page. Clicking on the resulting button should open that person's email client with the To: and Subject: lines pre-populated in a message composition window. All they would then have to do is send it. Be sure to escape any spaces you want to insert in your subject line with %20. This is hexidecimal for the space character. Bruce |

Thanks, Bruce! I couldn't find that :) One thing - the option of:?mailto link to the +subscribe? Where is that I thought I saw it on the about pages of groups the (subscribe, unsubscribe) options? I can't find the "example format" Does anyone any?examples of how they are promoting their groups on websites to get individuals to subscribe to their sub-groups??? It would be optimal to do it like regular groups (but alas) I have quite a few sub-groups. Dakotta -- You asked a very similar question a month ago. The answer given at that time can be found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/64368701#25015 Bottom line is that a mailto: link to the +subscribe email address is probably your best option for an off-site subscription button to a subgroup. While logged into the parent group, click the Subgroups item on the left-side menu bar. This will list what subgroups are available, and display the corresponding join buttons. Of course, one must join the parent group first. If you want to provide detailed instructions for your subscribers you will have to create that yourself...perhaps via a Member Notice or a Wiki page. Hope this helps, Bruce |

Sorry for including so much detail and then not being able to clearly show exactly what happened in the end.Gerald -- Yeah, I'm not going to attempt to quote any of that, because I really didn't quite follow it! I believe the first problem you may have had was that you entered an address that did not already have a groups.io account. Is that possible? In such a case, the Change Email button does what it says -- changes your email address. That's not an account merge. If so, you could have just accepted the change proposed to you in the first confirmation email, then went through the same process to change it back. The really dangerous part comes in when you enter an email address that you don't have access to (perhaps via a typo). If you were to log out after doing so, I'm not sure how to recover from that. In the past, I thought you could just log back in under the old address, but your experience (and other reports) have suggested otherwise. In one recent case I had to Direct Add someone to one of my Premium groups to help him get his account back, because there was no other way to confirm a bogus email address? (Ref:?/g/GroupManagersForum/topic/67932959#26114). Consider also what happens if you accidentally enter someone else's email address. That person will receive your confirmation email, through which they can log in, complete the change/merge, and steal your account...perhaps not your group ownerships (per the "bug" we've been talking about to this point), but everything else. At best, it's not exactly user friendly. At worst, you can really mess things up. Having said all that, if we want people to have this capability at all, these checks and re-logins and such have to be done somehow. It's easy to complain, a lot harder to propose an alternative.?I can't speak for others, but I'm not prepared to do that...yet. Meanwhile, best thing is to suggest that people be really careful, and I believe I already said something to that effect in message #26745. It's not something folks should be playing around with. Promoting Sub Groups
Dakotta Alex
Hi All, What is the best way to promote subgroups? I wanted to create a webpage for sign-up for each subgroup. I realize you can't do 'google or facebook' login for subgroups, so what's the best?way to do this? Also - where are the subscribe and unsubscribe?instructions for each group located? Thanks, Dakotta ![]() |

Because you have changed your email address, we need to confirm that this new email address, changeemail@... is really you. Doing so is easy, just reply to this email. If you would like to confirm your email address via the website instead, just click on this link::??Confirm new email address llink

My only option is to NOT reply to the email. No idea how long it takes before this times out. My only option is to see if I can log in again. Try with oldemail since I have not confirmed the new one. That email address does not have a groups.io account. Well, that didn't work, I tried the new email. Since I didn't have a password, I was offered a link to login. That did work, but my account was unconfirmed. At that point, I lost track of what was going on, but in the end I somehow got logged in using the original account. Even stranger, I got in via the GMF group. Here's that email.. Hello,

The message itself should post to the group message archive in a timely fashion, but the bottom line is that anyone signing up for digest delivery has actively forfeited their right to the timely receipt of group messages (via email). 2. How are Special Notices handled with respect to an individual's Subscription setting?I frankly didn't know, so I just tested this...and the "send as special notice" option does seem to force prompt delivery of a #cal-reminder to those subscribed with a digest. So I learned something today! I do suggest polling your digest subscribers about this before going down that road. Some might take exception to this override. Regards, Bruce |

There is no way to get to the login page if you're already logged in with that browser. It's actually done from the Account page, which kinda looks like the login page at first glance. If on the Account page, you type in another email address (overwriting what's already there) and click Change Email (or simply hit the Enter key), the merge dialog pops up if the newly-entered email address is already registered with groups.io. Note that the new address doesn't even have to be yours...if you had the cooperation of someone else, the accounts of two entirely different people can be merged, if for some obscure reason you felt it was desirable to do that. If you merge 2 email addresses and the emaIl address which is deactivated is the only owner of a group, then I think that should be prevented with a message. The message should prompt you to go back to the group or groups where you are the owner and promote one of the moderators (or a member) to owner, before attempting this merge again. The fact that you can do this at the moment is sort of a bug, in my opinion, and should be reported to support so some code can be added to the "merge email accounts" function to prevent a group becoming orphaned. Do you agree?John -- I do.? There is a fail-safe in place for account deletion, to keep you from accidentally deleting the last Owner of a group...but some posts here in GMF over the past year or two have suggested that the fail-safe can be circumvented via merging accounts. Being disinterested in creating a problem for myself, I haven't actually verified this. So unfortunately, it remains hearsay on my end, which is the only thing that's kept me from reporting it. By the way, I noticed the use of inactivate earlier in this thread. I think deactivate is more appropriate, etc...I kinda think this is splitting hairs...but I'm not married to the existing wording. Have at it! Bruce |
