Re: Yahoo Group Import Question
I see exactly where you are coming from Bruce...? I won't be popular for my opinion, either.
I have received the YG download zip and have tried PGO for a group I am only a member of. BOTH ways give me access to the whole archive and include both messages and the entire email address for each. The member list and email addresses are hidden from me at the YG group.?Somewhere at some time, group owners (myself included) must have accepted that this might happen... subscribers must have agreed that their email addresses may not be private to group members, also. OR, perhaps YG is just stupid and will end up sued... who knows... I'm not gonna read the ToS to find out. I have set my groups setting here to make sure that email addresses can not be harvested, but it looks like YG's settings are not so great. The bigger threat, IMO, is PGO injecting messages (probably by emailing them en mass) into GIO without Mark's approval. I hope that he is monitoring this issue (or that those with his ear are) and making settings that will stop this from happening without his intervention to make sure he receives the proper compensation and that the database remains stable. |
Question about paying for premium
Hello.
I am hoping that someone will answer my question. ?I have tried four times to pay for premium for my one group. ?It declined my debit card 4 times. ?Would someone be able to answer to questions for me: 1. Do you have to pay before you create the group or does that matter? 2. Can someone provide me with a link to contact them to get a paypal link to pay? Mendy |

I have no idea how Wilson is planning to do his proposed transfer, as he obviously has no more access to GIO's internals than any of us do, unless he works out some kind of arrangement with Mark. The only way I could see it working otherwise is for Wilson to add a routine to automatically re-mail all messages one by one from the PGO archive to a groups.io list, but that of course would not preserve the ownership of each email. I guess Mark will have to deal with this issue when it arises. -- Bill |

The existing transfer process at least involves some semblance of consent from someone in a position of authority in the originating group. If anyone with an email address and this software can subscribe?for a day and immediately clone a group here in groups.io, this raises issues both ethical and legal. In fact, it bears a strong resemblance to DVD or software pirating. As someone fully vested in the future of this platform, I do not want to see groups.io?get embroiled in some sort of court battle regarding group/content ownership. To the casual observer, that may seem unlikely -- but it only has to happen once. And if it does, we will ALL be affected. My $0.02, Bruce |

Someone on that end has to not only invite it to the group, but also make it a Moderator, so the data can be read. All of this is clearly stated in Steps 3-5 of the instructions. If you can't find someone to perform these steps for you, you need to contact [email protected],?ask for a refund, and proceed to transfer your group manually as best you can. Re: HOW do I this part of the Yahoo group transfer: Make sure you have sent an invite to your group for the user [email protected].
You need to be an owner of the Yahoo Group or be a moderator with permissions.
"You must not only be able to invite the transfer agent, but also subsequently promote it to a Moderator itself once the invitation is accepted. If -- for whatever reason -- you are unable to perform BOTH functions, you won't be able to complete the Easy Group Transfer process.?
?
Very few Yahoo Group Moderators are given the "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges" permission. This is necessary to promote the agent to Moderator. "

You are probably logged in using the wrong email addressDina; in the absence of others commenting it is definitely worth putting Bruce's point to the test. Go to the Groups.io web UI, and if you find yourself still logged in, then log out. Now log in again with your original email address. Assuming that this allows you to log in see if your group looks as it ought to now. Then log out again and attempt to log in using your new email address. If the log in works go and see if your group is present but without your having Owner rights. If you have not set up passwords you will have to rely on Groups.io sending you a log - in link by email so you must be able to receive emails on both of your addresses in turn. Please report back with what you find. Chris |

Yahoo Group Import Question
Spica Speakers Group
I am moderator of a dying Yahoo group. I would like to poll my Yahoo members and see if they want to continue the group and fund the transfer effort.
I know this will take additional time and so I wanted to ask: Since I have successfully exported and downloaded my Yahoo group, can you import from my downloaded file or do you need to make a direct connection as outlined in the FAQ? |
