Re: Yahoo Group Import Question

Spica Speakers Group

I just tried to make an existing member a moderator and can find no way to do that. So it appears that I am dead in the water.

Lisa -- You need to find someone else who can. Have you tried sending a message to the group's owner address?

How do I get past this step in the group transfer? Yes, I paid for the premium.
The transfer agent cannot "break into" Yahoo Groups and steal group content. Someone on that end has to not only invite it to the group, but also make it a Moderator, so the data can be read. All of this is clearly stated in Steps 3-5 of the instructions.

If you can't find someone to perform these steps for you, you need to contact [email protected],?ask for a refund, and proceed to transfer your group manually as best you can.

Details on the latter can be found in the Transfer FAQ at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/FAQ-on-Moving-from-Yahoo-Groups, item #10.

Bruce?

Re: HOW do I this part of the Yahoo group transfer: Make sure you have sent an invite to your group for the user [email protected].

You need to be an owner of the Yahoo Group or be a moderator with permissions.

"You must not only be able to invite the transfer agent, but also subsequently promote it to a Moderator itself once the invitation is accepted. If -- for whatever reason -- you are unable to perform BOTH functions, you won't be able to complete the Easy Group Transfer process.?
?
Very few Yahoo Group Moderators are given the "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges" permission. This is necessary to promote the agent to Moderator. "

Dina; in the absence of others commenting it is definitely worth putting Bruce's point to the test.

Go to the Groups.io web UI, and if you find yourself still logged in, then log out.
Now log in again with your original email address. Assuming that this allows you to log in see if your group looks as it ought to now.

Then log out again and attempt to log in using your new email address. If the log in works go and see if your group is present but without your having Owner rights.

If you have not set up passwords you will have to rely on Groups.io sending you a log - in link by email so you must be able to receive emails on both of your addresses in turn.

Please report back with what you find.

Can you invite other members? Can you promote others to Moderator? If you're only a Moderator yourself, you probably can't use the Easy Group Transfer method anyway.

I know this will take additional time and so I wanted to ask:

Since I have successfully exported and downloaded my Yahoo group, can you import from my downloaded file...
No.

...or do you need to make a direct connection as outlined in the FAQ?
You probably can't do that, either.?

If you don't have the "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges" permission in the Yahoo group, you need to find someone who does. Otherwise, you should plan to upload all of the content to the new group manually, using the info found in Item #10 of the FAQ.

Yahoo Group Import Question

Spica Speakers Group

I am moderator of a dying Yahoo group. I would like to poll my Yahoo members and see if they want to continue the group and fund the transfer effort.

I know this will take additional time and so I wanted to ask:

Since I have successfully exported and downloaded my Yahoo group, can you import from my downloaded file or do you need to make a direct connection as outlined in the FAQ?

Re: Welcome Message Confusion

Bruce,

I appreciate the link. I'll check out the analyzer results as this may be a Yahoo Mail issue - that's what I used to sign up the test user account with.

Thanks!

Re: Yahoo Addresses Query

I was able to Print to PDF file the entire Yahoo membership list, so I have a searchable list of everyone. Then I did a separate file for what Yahoo currently lists as bouncing on the group that is being transferred. I'm hoping the transfer takes care of the housekeeping, but I now have a record for Yahoo. I have a much smaller group that Yahoo does not now sort for bounces and is not being transferred. When the transfer group is complete, now have only 43 ahead, I'll invite those from the small group -- if addresses are good and they're still interested, they can join the new group. We don't have thousands, so this may be more doable but does provided a records of Yahoo members and info -- landscape orientation to get it all in correct format.

Re: Groups.io RSS Feed validation? #issue

Hmmm... Yes, it is a private group.? So then it would seem to be a bug here either way, in that I am allowed to view the rss feed in a web browser even though I am not properly authenticated.

That said, even a "public" group like which is viewable in a web browser also fails formatting tests at both and

Re: How long for groups.io to become a member

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The problems are two-fold: First, what yahoo "allows" seems to change from hour to hour. What i could do yesterday, I can't do today.? I have no idea what kind of moderator I am, but as I have noted, on some groups I moderate, there are no problems, and on other groups that I own, the same problems are there.

Second, in the case of one group, alas, we have an absentee owner who has been gone for ten years.? We are attempting to track her down, but even if she's willing to help, we know she's moved to a different state and no doubt has a different email and probably has no way to get into the group she owns.? I hope it's not a problem to get my $220 refunded if groups.io can't do the transfer.? I won't be happy if I've lost the money!

Gene -- These are metadata -- placeholders for the information that will be inserted when the invitation is actually sent. Keeping in mind that you can send multiple invitations at once, groups.io will parse each of your entries in the Email Addresses box and populate those fields for you.

For example, if you put "Bruce Bowman <myemail @ domain.net>" in the Email Addresses box, [Name] will be replaced with my name and Invitee email address] will be replaced with myemail @ domain.net.

- Will entered text in the Customized Message add it to the form letter or replace it?
It will be inserted immediately below the line where it says "The following message was included by [you]." There is no way to replace the boilerplate text already present.
