Diane -- Yes, when your invitation is accepted you will receive an email from saying so and providing further instructions.

To this point, accepting the invitation has been taking a day or two...but as of this morning Mark said that they had "accepted all invites up through last night," so hopefully any sent today will go more quickly ().

Thank you! I probably missed the cutoff last night. It was probably 9-930pm EST that it went through for me. I¡¯m just worried I¡¯ll miss the email somehow. As a yahoo group owner, I haven¡¯t gotten a single email from yahoo about this.?

Re: using email only

Initiating a message to your group via email requires a destination email address
yourgroupname at(@) groups.io? The system typically "figleafs" email addresses to protect the owners in messages
which is why I separated the above the way I did.
/That doesn't seem like such a big deal to type to me.
Especially since most email systems have typeahead and anticipate frequently used addresses.

Lots of email based controls is available if you look at any group's Home page.

Obtaining your group data from Yahoo!Groups

It appears it is possible to get your group's data from Yahoo. I used the link here ?when the shutdown was announced. Got a notice today that my data was available. I downloaded the zip files and after a quick look, it appears that messages, files, pictures, attachments, links and other data is available to me.

Re: Account [for upgrading to a premium group]

I think I've answered my own question....seems my USD Amex card required a US zip code even though its registered with my home Canadian address. So I found that I can enter the Canadian postal code numbers followed by two zeros to fulfill the zip code entry field I.E.: a PC of "K2A 3P4" becomes a zip code of "23400". It worked and my premium upgrade succeeded.?

Database Limits #database

My database import seems to have stopped at 5,001 lines/records. Is this a limit, or is it coincidence, and I should try again?

Where am I in the Queue?

I pushed the green button three days ago and the following notice appeared at the top:?We are in process of transferring your group. Depending on Yahoo and demand, this may take several days. You will be notified by email when the transfer is completed.

Since then, I have heard nothing. ?I see posts here quoting a message from .io giving them their place in the queue?? ?Would someone point me to the page where I can choose a button to show my status? ?

Any way to glean the emails from Yahoo Group members so I can transfer them all myself?

Hello Groups.io friends,
I've created a new groups.io group to replace our Yahoo group of almost 7500 members. We don't have the funds to pay the Premium subscription for a groups transfer. Is there any way to simply invite all our previous members to the new group (from our groups.io site? I successfully downloaded and sent 1000 invites from Yahoo, but Yahoo only allows me to download 1000 members into a database (and we have 7500). Any ideas on how to glean the emails from the Yahoo group for mass import to a groups.io site? We don't really need all our old files and photos.

Thanks!
Marie ([email protected])

Tiny Group Awaiting Transfer...Still #transfer

Here¡¯s my group¡¯s timeline.? Just for context, we¡¯re comparatively tiny:? 129 members (of whom 15 have already signed up directly at Groups.io rather than awaiting an invitation), fewer than 1,000 past messages though they¡¯re valuable to us, a few dozen photos, just 3 (yes, 3!) small pdf files.

?

Friday October 18:? Alerted my group to Yahoo¡¯s planned shutdown and outlined options (Groups.io, Google groups, Facebook, plain email, dissolution).? Not surprisingly, people favored Groups so that we could save our history.? I already had an account ¡®cause a local listserv (with about 18,000 members) was doing the move.
?
Sunday October 20:? Started following the transfer steps religiously.? Created the new group.? Clicked the ¡°Set Up New Transfer Button.¡±? Sent an invitation from my Yahoo group to [email protected]. ?(You know that Yahoo doesn¡¯t save a record of invitations; but I did print the page that showed ¡°You can invite 99 more members today,¡± so yes, I did send that invitation successfully.)? Signed up and paid for a Premium membership at $110, a price that doubled just two days later.? Got a confirmation page from Groups.io, ¡°We will send you an email once we've received and accepted an invite. It may take up to a week for us to process the invite.¡±? I then heard nothing for a few days.? During that time, the Premium price spiked and the transfer status page started showing an option to expedite for $200, which I considered ominous.
?
Thursday October 24:? Because of e-silence, I re-sent the Yahoo invitation to [email protected]. ?(Apprehensively, ¡®cause I wondered whether this would bump me back in the queue.)
?
Friday October 25:? Finally things started moving.? Groups.io accepted my invitation, whether it was Sunday¡¯s or Thursday¡¯s invitation I don¡¯t know.? I swiftly made [email protected] a moderator.? Got the promised auto-confirmation.? Returned to ¡°Existing Transfer¡± page and gave the go-ahead.? Status is now ¡°Your group is awaiting export from Yahoo. [Step 1 of 4].¡±? Having already paid $110, I balk at paying another $200 to expedite.

?

Query:? How do I know my place in the queue?? Other people seem to figure that out.

?

Bottom line is that everything so far seems to be going according to script, but is taking much longer than I expected. ?I have a note on my personal calendar to write a final message to my Yahoo group tomorrow warning that it looks like we¡¯ll be in transfer limbo indefinitely.

?

Oh, and [thinly-veiled swearing directed at Yahoo redacted by Moderator].

Click to moderator.
Untick all moderator options
I followed those steps, clicked on ROLE and nothing happens.
In case there is still some misunderstanding, beside the word "Role", there should be a rectangular box that says "Member" and has a down arrow. Click on where it says "Member". Now that should show Member and Moderator. Now click on "Moderator".

If that doesn't work, check your own "Moderator Privileges" permissions as a Moderator. You must have "Invite and Add Members" and "Add, remove, and change moderator privileges". If not, that is why you are unable to perform this function.

Re: Yahoo Group transfer update

I read Mark¡¯s post about queue waiting times but it didn¡¯t clarify my situation. Whatever day it was last week when Mark added the sub transfer statuses, I was at step 3 and 30-something in that queue. His change in how the queues are ordered put me back to 132 or thereabouts. Last I checked I was 111th. What I¡¯m confused about is that on Mon 10/21st I gave the transfer go-ahead for my group. Yet I¡¯m significantly behind someone who gave the transfer go-ahead on Tues 10/22. a day after I did. If Mark is taking groups in order of the transfer go-ahead date then I should be ahead of a group that did that the day after I did. There are people posting here with much more urgent concerns, I know, but if anyone can explain this I¡¯d love to know. There¡¯s got to be something more to how he¡¯s ordering groups than just by date of transfer go-ahead.

Re: using email only

Discourse is a BIG DEAL to only use for emails! Way overkill. It's a full-featured flat forum system. Check out Eve Online or World of Warcraft forums to see it in action.

Members can set their preferences here and only get emails, even though the system saves all of them for future reference, just like Yahoo Groups.

Checked all these posts, thanks for the lead, none of these are an issue.

Your posts are showing up here! A puzzle.
Are you emailing or going from the GMF group homepage?

Both, and tried another email client as well.

The messages DO get through to some level, as for example messages that need moderation (non-members etc.) go into the pending section. But, I CAN'T approve them, they just untick themselves, when I hit APPROVE. Replying to the moderation request doesn't do anything either.

They just never make it to circulation, no matter what.

That would be an entirely logical conclusion. Time for an email to [email protected] I think.

Yes, I sent them an email yesterday, and bumped it again today. Haven't heard anything yet.

using email only

Hi... we have an 1800 member YG group, low activity though, but existing since 2000, maybe 70,000 message or so. I've been looking around the messages here, some wiki articles, but lost the one that talks about how to use email (only) to send messages - post new topics and reply to a topic sent in an email (individual or digest).

What I remember seeing somewhere is that there was some "strange" email address to use, containing the group name, and bunches of numbers etc. - long email address. This is apparently the email integration feature. A lot of our members will want to continue to use email only so this is very important. I suppose if this receiving email address is long and strange it would still appear in one's email client to-field auto-fill easily enough, but if awkward we could perhaps create a more pleasant email address externally that forwards to the groups.io receiving address? E.g., external to groups.io, I could create an alias called messages@... and it would forward into groups.io for new topics. Not sure about responding to existing topics though.

Another person is pushing to have us move to a "fancy" system (Discourse) but using email only (etc.) is not clear from what I can see so far. (I know that's not your wheelhouse ;-))

I did try to reply to a message in the groups.io webview.

It said the reply was sent, but reply did not appear.
