I wasn?t asking about myself. All my questions related to the 78
bounced members in my group.
Sorry for the confusion. I wrote my answers as if I was speaking directly to them. I should have phrased that as "one" or "they", to refer to such members more clearly. Or maybe written as "Tell them 'don't do that'".

I'm struggling with your terminology.

To start, the Wiki on a Groups.io forum was created as a 'Table of
Contents" with links to documents and videos.
The default Wiki home page is an index of the wiki pages you've created. Is this what you are describing?

Then one of the moderators accidentally added a folder and now there
is two folders. The information says that I should make a folder with
the word "Home"
There aren't any "folders" in a Groups.io wiki, just pages. So that's part of the terminology I'm not following.

If you make a page with the title of "Home" it will replace the default Index.

My question is what is the best way to move the additional accident
folder, and get the "Table of Contents" folder as the "Home" folder.
If I'm interpreting your terminology correctly, you could revert to the default Index as your wiki Home page by changing the title of the page currently holding the title "Home", or by deleting it.

Is there a simple, 1., 2. 3., .....? set of instructions for neophyte users to add a group signature??
I don't mean "go to your subscription" type instructions as in "help."? I mean "simpleton."
Believe it or not, there are ex-Y! folks out there who (1) don't know what their "subscription" is, (2) haven't ever seen/used the web GUI and (3) are old dogs who can't do new tricks.? All they know is "I get a beep on my phone, read a message, and I tap "reply" with my finger."

all a bit hard to understand for me. I didn?t want to do anything, so I don?t know why you write:

I wasn?t asking about myself. All my questions related to the 78 bounced members in my group. I?m perfectly good. Must be a misunderstanding.

I?ve now linked a document to the description of the group?s starting page in order to inform the bounced yahoo members that they must create a new mail address if they want to get back in. So I hope I can reach as many of them as possible.

Long answer:

I don't have any email addresses in bouncing status, so I can't say that I've verified this. I /think/ the Groups.io web interface will allow them to participate, with only a warning box. I could be wrong, the web interface may require them to cure the bounce status before participating.

Even if they can continue to participate, they are at risk. If they are logged in to Groups.io they should go to their Account page change their email address to a working address as soon as practical.

One risk is that if they forget their Groups.io password they won't be able to reset it without receiving the email for the password reset.

Another risk is that if Groups.io needs to send them any account-related notice, they won't receive it. I can't think of a specific example at the moment, but there could be a circumstance that requires attention.

Of less concern, but still annoying is that they won't receive any rejection notices sent by the group moderators, nor any notice if someone edits a message they posted, nor any any other attempted off-list message from mods or members.

What happens if still being logged in they try to reply to a message
online?
As I said earlier, I /think/ they can still do that, but I haven't tested it to be sure.

And after they did this, can they still read in groups.io as long as
they don?t log out?
They can log out and back in again, providing that they have set a Groups.io password and they still remember it.

Try the browser ritual (try Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Internet
Exploder or Edge) and see if you get the same results--I get different
results on different websites sometimes and switching browsers allows
me to view content that I couldn't in another browser.

Check to be sure you're using the account associated with owner or
moderator privileges if you have multiple accounts and whether you are
logged in with that account or not. If you have more than one account,
you should sign out then sign in with the one you're sure is the owner
or mod account. If that's the case, the system might think you're not
who you are, even if you use the same name for the account.

If you still have problems, see if there are other suggestions given
here and if they don't work, try contacting support.

Thanks Shal & Donald.

Your explanations make good sense and have answered my questions. In the past while we were still on YGroups we did have a number of disgruntled members who seemed to revel in not following our group's posting guidelines. We seem to have lost almost all of them over time, fortunately.

So for now have unchecked the restriction on member joins, but have left the New Member temporarily moderated post restriction in place.

We'll see how it works out.

Can't upload files #files

 

On my Groups page this morning, my moderator and I (I'm the group owner) found that we aren't able to upload files. The upload button in our Files section is grayed out, and we get the red circle/slash icon when we move our cursor over it. I don't think we're over our storage limit- it says we're only at 93 mb. We're both using Chrome. Any idea what the problem is or how to fix it?

I am trying to understand photo albums within Groups. Even in the
Group Manager forum, there is one photo album with 400+ pictures?
We're not a good example. As you note, we only have one album and it is the special album Emailed Photos, which is created automatically by the system to display photos that arrived in email messages.

I want to delete a photo album in one of my groups that serves no
purpose.
If it is Emailed Photos, you cannot.

How do I do that?
If it is any other album, click on the album and then at the top of the Album's page there will be buttons to Add Photos, Edit Album, and Delete Album.

And can I not set up separate photo albums for individual projects?
Yes. As Dennis said there is a blue New Album button at the top of the Photos page.

I would like to invite new members by some kind of webhook/API or some
other automatic means, so that I'm not the bottleneck in adding new
members.
How are the email addresses obtained?

If you have a web site where people might sign up for your group, you may be able to use some of the code available on the Promote page to allow people to sign themselves up.

Other conventional approaches include publicizing your group's home page (where non-members will find a Join or Apply button), or your group's +subscribe email address.

What does groups.io offer in this regard? An API?
There is an API available to Premium groups.

A quick glance indicates that the API supports Direct Add, which adds email addresses to the group directly, with no need to send an invitation or have the invitee accept one. It also

I have the same question about removing members.
The API supports that as well.

SO MY QUESTION IS, does having both of those two settings checked at
the same time constitute overkill or is that actually useful ...
I'm with Donald in suggesting that it will largely depend on the nature of your group and the people who (attempt to) join it.

Restricted Membership is good when your group has specific criteria for membership. For example, in my classmate groups if you aren't known personally by me or the reunion coordinator then you don't get approved. It somewhat less restrictive groups Restricted Membership lets you use a Pending Subscription notice to send a questionnaire or other qualifying information to the applicant before you approve them.

New Users Moderated is often seen as an alternative to Restricted Membership, and in terms of preventing someone from posting spam in your group it can be seen that way. But it can also be an effective backstop for the approval process, if there is a concern that an "undesirable" might be able to bluff their way through approval. An ordinary spammer isn't likely to bother, but a malcontent or a phisher might be motivated enough to put in that effort.

New Users Moderated can also be useful for enforcing any specific posting requirements the group may have - even a member who went through some approval process might not be initially aware of the posting rules or how to comply with them.

The way I understand it, if the email is not used to send or receive messages, said email will get disabled. So if they are reading the group online and not using the mail to send or receive anything the meail address from yahoo will go away sooner or later.

That?s understood. But I am talking about *writing* emails not
*receiving* them.
What I don't remember is how much the Groups.io web interface fusses at you if your subscribed email address is in Bouncing status.

I think the fuss is limited to a red warning box at the top of the page, and if that's the case the member could ignore the box continue using the New Topic and Reply functions (as well as reading the Messages and other pages).

Relating to the presumption that if they have a yahoo address and do
not use it for a year because they stay logged in and just read in the
group, all o a sudden yahoo bounces them.
If they're not using the Yahoo Mail mail interface I think it takes only a few months for address to be deactivated, and begin rejecting ("bouncing") incoming messages.

No. Yahoo won't know anything about what that person does using the Groups.io web interface. So staying logged in at Groups.io and doing things there will have no effect on whether Yahoo deactivates their Yahoo Mail address.

If the person signs in to their Yahoo account, and reads group messages delivered to their Yahoo Mail address, that will keep their Yahoo Mail address active. I don't think it matters whether they also post via the Yahoo Mail interface.

Yeah, I know. It?s really something I?ve been thinking about many times. What is stopping me is the fear that someone who was already struggling to get into the group and overcome all the language difficulties would not try it anymore after that and that his animal would suffer from this.
