I don't believe there currently exists any function to send information in the opposite direction. Others who actually use the integration will have to provide further guidance.

These are very broad questions with no simple answer.

The most common source of the first problem is user error, meaning incorrect message addressing. The proper address at which to post messages can be found among the Group Email Addresses on the home page of each group/subgroup (look under "Post").

Note also there was some groups.io system downtime over the weekend. A handful of users may have attempted to post during that downtime. I believe groups.io was bouncing messages then, but a few may have landed in the bit-bucket.
?
The most common cause of the second problem is some sort of intervention or downtime by the subscriber's email provider. Go to Admin>Members and select Bouncing from the blue pull-down menu. Much information on groups.io bounce handling can be found at /static/help#bouncing?

Now open a subscriber's user record (click on it). At the top of the resulting page is a button labeled "Email Delivery History." A click on that button should give you some idea of whether there have been any other kinds of message delivery problems.

Note that even if delivered, group messages may subsequently be diverted to the subscriber's spam or junk email folders. The only way to determine if that has happened is to have the subscriber open those folders on his end and look.

Having said all that, these are only the most common sources, and may not apply to your situation. Any information you can provide to narrow the scope will help us to provide a better response.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

We are an open source project considering groups.io, but because we work within the W3C intellectual property policy, we have a requirement that all of our conversations, chats, etc. are publicly archived. Currently these are archived into GitHub.

Are there any integrations of groups.io to save any group contents to git or GitHub?

Calendar reminders no longer controlled by group moderation setting #cal-reminder

Please note that Mark has reverted the way integrations and system-generated messages (like calendar reminders) are handled. For those whose groups are moderated, you should find that these messages are no longer stuck in moderation, requiring individual approval.

Ref:???

Those who prefer that such messages also be moderated can edit the corresponding hashtag/integration to force that behavior.

That's correct...and this was vetted very thoroughly when these spam controls were first implemented.

A moderator's duties in groups.io involves some minimal initial review of member behavior. Each subscriber must either be reviewed at the time he applies for membership, or his first message must be reviewed when it posts. A Spam Control setting that would allow someone to join your group and immediately post something without moderation is no spam control at all.

To do so, select only the Restricted Membership checkbox in your Spam Control settings. You will have to approve new Subscribers, but once approved each will be able to post without further Moderator involvement.

Bruce,

? ? ? ? ? ? Thanks much.? Never knew about that.

? ? ? ? ? ? One important thing for anyone who's used to the usual behavior of Merge to know is that you do not, after you've selected your messages, go to another message and choose "Merge into."? The dialog that comes after hitting Merge up allows you to choose one of the messages in the collection to be the one into which all others will be merged, so you have to be sure to select the one you wish to be the "lead topic" when you're doing your multi-select.

This would help immensely in organizing what is sometimes impossible to do. I could use less than 10 top level folders that would have not only albums, but individual folders.?

If that is your intent, you need to join the beta group () and post it there.

To merge two or more topics, go to /g/GROUPNAME/topics-test. Check the boxes next to the topics to merge and click the Merge button. A more burdensome way to do the same thing may be found at?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Merge-Threads?

If a single message has wandered into the wrong topic, you will first have to split it out. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/How-to-Split-Threads??

Re: Collecting messages into one topic

I use merge to do this routinely, though I have never attempted a "mass merge" and just pick up and merge the stray messages as they come along and it works perfectly.

It would be nice if there were a multi-select mechanism where a group of messages selected could be marked as being merged, then you would go to the topic where they belong and do a "Merge into."? Right now, at least to my knowledge multi-select for this purpose does not exist.

Collecting messages into one topic

My group has a few members that always start a new topic when replying to an existing topic.
I would like to collect those messages that belong in the main topic to that main topic.
Hope that is clear.
I don't find a way to do that.
Tried Merge Topics, but it went nowhere.

Thanks,
Richard

Yikes!? Definitely a bug.? I did some testing on a few of my groups (as a member) and found this to be true.? On most, only the Guidelines were in the list, but on a couple it included other, non-active Notices.? That drop down box shouldn't exist at all for non-moderators.

Re: Contact via the directory - access to notices query

Hi Bruce,

I'm a subscriber to this group and I just sent you a private message with customised version the GMF guidelines.

I found your entry in the directory, clicked the Email option to open up the message editing page and selected the guidelines from the Notices dropdown.

I wondered if that was a bug.? I'll raise it with support as you believe it is.

Andy

Sending a Member Notice via the Directory should only be possible with an account having Moderator or Owner privileges. If you have evidence that regular Subscribers can do so, that would be a bug. Please let us know what hoops you managed to jump through to make this option available.

Contact via the directory - access to notices query

Hi,

I'm trying to understand the rationale behind this - perhaps someone could explain...

When sending an email directly to someone via the Directory, you can select a predefined notice as the message subject and text. On this group for example, there seems to be just one Member Notice defined and that is the group guidelines. So, anyone could send customised versions.of that to someone else (I accept that on this group that would probably be picked up by the moderators first).? On groups without moderation however...

If groups owners have gone to the trouble of defining Member Notices for specific events, what is the purpose of allowing anyone to send a private customised version?

Andy
