Attached is an example of an RSVP screen. I didn't populate everything when I set up this event but it should give you an idea.

To answer my own question:? Yes.?

So that's good.

Had to do the testing in ShalsTest, because RSVPs are a Premium-only feature.?

Check out the Pricing page, a link is found at the bottom of every page.? If there's something that you're not clear on, maybe we can help.

Re: RSVP

Hi,

I've been doing some testing of that function and from what I've seen it works OK but there's a limitation. Here's a summary of what I've found so far:

  • Events can be added to a calendar and an RSVP requested.
  • Emailed invitees get a link to use the RSVP function which you have to do online (you can't RSVP by email)
  • An event can be limited to a certain number of people and if you RSVP within the limit you get confirmation that you are on the event.
  • If you RSVP to say you wish to attend and the event is already full, you are added to a wait list and there is a message shown at the top of the screen to confirm this.
  • Someone placed on the waitlist is told their position on the list as they are added. I've not seen any way of checking to see if you have moved up the list once you are on it.
  • There is an option for the event organiser can email all attendees.
  • If an attendee updates their RSVP status to say they will no longer attend, the first person on the waitlist is automatically added and they receive an email to confirm this.
What I have found though is that event waitlists cannot be managed manually by the organiser. So, for example, if you know that a confirmed attendee can no longer attend but they are either unable or unwilling to update their RSVP status to free up a space for someone else, you cannot do it for them.? The only way you can effectively add the next person on the waitlist to the event is by adding another space. I have raised this issue with support (ticket 8127 on 28-Jan-19) and received the following response from Mark:

Unfortunately there is currently no way to change RSVPs at the owner level. It's on the TODO list, but I'm not sure when it will happen.
So, I wouldn't bet that this will change anytime soon.

I hope that helps for now.

Regards,
Andy

RSVPs work in a manner that is very similar to polls. The link in the #cal-invite takes you to the groups.io site, where you have to click a button to Accept/Decline. And if you aren't logged in, you have to do that first. Unfortunately, a large subset of the Subscribers in my groups find logging in to be too burdensome, and instead respond via email. You might have more success in your group, but it's mainly for this reason that I find these functions to have limited utility.?

One thing I'm unsure of, since I don't regularly use it...many of our events are set up months in advance and people simply do not know if they're going to be able to attend when the #cal-invite goes out. Do #cal-reminders also have the RSVP link??If not, they should.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

What is the difference between Premium Group (Paid) and free groups

I can't seem to find information relating to Premium Groups. Such as: what is the cost, how they compare with free groups, etc?
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Re: RSVP

I have that same question. We are debating going to the paid upgrade to be able to just add members to our group that our untechnical, and the event rsvp feature is a big bonus. And then if we do that, can they jus click "rsvp" or do they have to log in?

Mark, please reconsider this.

Mark is the site owner (and developer, bug fixer, etc.) and has made his decision.? As was mentioned earlier, you could simply approve each member as they apply, then you wouldn't need any of the other settings for additional filtering.

No one from Groups.io management monitors this group.? If you want to make a suggestion for a change or improvement, you need to join the beta group and post it there,

I think it boils down to Google Groups being "too big to block", even if it were to get a slightly bad reputation for forwarding spam. Groups.io isn't that well known by the major mailbox providers, and must keep its reputation as clean as it can in order to help ensure that its messages get through to group members.

Also, even if deliverability were not a daily battle, I think Mark takes a personal interest in running a spam-free service.

Okay, so I already have a note in support so I will just wait for Mark to get to it.

In the meantime the work around for me would be to reject the message with a note to the member asking them to resend without the Adult Content attachment since we are a G rated group.

Thanks, Ilene

I had sent a message to beta and Catlady said I should post my concern in support which?I did. I said thank you to her and also said I wasn't sure if it was a bug or not.

Since the attachments have individual checkboxes I concur with J_Catlady that this is a bug, not a feature suggestion (the feature is present, but not working).

It has been quite a while and I have heard nothing back except the auto message saying support received my email.

It can take a few days, or longer, for Mark to respond. He tends not to reply until he's fixed the problem, unless he has questions about it. This seems to clear for him to have questions, so you may not get a personal response until it is fixed.

That's correct...and this was vetted very thoroughly when these spam controls were first implemented.

A moderator's duties in groups.io involves some minimal initial review of member behavior. Each subscriber must either be reviewed at the time he applies for membership, or his first message must be reviewed when it posts. A Spam Control setting that would allow someone to join your group and immediately post something without moderation is no spam control at all.
?
Hope this helps,

Christopher -- The existing GitHub integration sends a notification to your GIO group when code is committed to the repository. I don't believe there currently exists any function to send information in the opposite direction. Others who actually use the integration will have to provide further guidance.

Re: Messages Going Missing

On Wed, Feb 13, 2019 at 03:06 PM, Allison Schaefer wrote:
I'm new to Groups.io and I manage two groups.? We have had issues with a) people sending emails and these messages not showing up under "messages" in the group and b) group members not getting emailed when new messages are sent.? This happens in both of the groups I manage (some people are members of both).??

What would be the most common reason for this happening?? Group or user error??
These are very broad questions with no simple answer.

The most common source of the first problem is user error, meaning incorrect message addressing. The proper address at which to post messages can be found among the Group Email Addresses on the home page of each group/subgroup (look under "Post").

Note also there was some groups.io system downtime over the weekend. A handful of users may have attempted to post during that downtime. I believe groups.io was bouncing messages then, but a few may have landed in the bit-bucket.
?
The most common cause of the second problem is some sort of intervention or downtime by the subscriber's email provider. Go to Admin>Members and select Bouncing from the blue pull-down menu. Much information on groups.io bounce handling can be found at /static/help#bouncing?

Now open a subscriber's user record (click on it). At the top of the resulting page is a button labeled "Email Delivery History." A click on that button should give you some idea of whether there have been any other kinds of message delivery problems.

Note that even if delivered, group messages may subsequently be diverted to the subscriber's spam or junk email folders. The only way to determine if that has happened is to have the subscriber open those folders on his end and look.

Having said all that, these are only the most common sources, and may not apply to your situation. Any information you can provide to narrow the scope will help us to provide a better response.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

We are an open source project considering groups.io, but because we work within the W3C intellectual property policy, we have a requirement that all of our conversations, chats, etc. are publicly archived. Currently these are archived into GitHub.

Are there any integrations of groups.io to save any group contents to git or GitHub?
