Moderators can be given status to change the moderator status of
others, obviously in your case whoever upgraded you to moderator did
not. It was the case with me and on request I was upgraded.

By the way our group transferred last Saturday in under 8 hours from
giving them the go ahead. Whether there is a backlog it doesn't seem to
be slowing things down.

The other effect which is driving me nuts is that when I try to respond to a message on a YahooGroup, the person¡¯s name is attached to the list name. This may just be Apple Mail but when Carrie posts a subject, the response is addressed to

"Carolyn Kinney carriek@... [TVC-CHIP]" <TVC-CHIP@...>

Even when the message is to the list not to Carrie individually.

When a bunch of people are involved in the discussion, people think Carrie sent all the messages. The address will stay the same for the whole thread unless I delete it and put in only the name of the list. But every time I want to respond to the list this address will autofill and it¡¯s very hard to get rid of ¡ª delete and hit return and it come back. I have to clean my list of previous recipients on a regular basis.

Since I manage our community lists, the first time this started happening I was up half the night trying to find out why. It was confusing a hot issue and made it very unclear who was saying what and who was receiving messages individually and who from the list.

If you look at the address on this message it includes ¡°calendar¡±. That must have been saved from a message on calendars?

It's called DMARC.

It is a protocol whereby an email sending service can tell email receiving service to reject any message that doesn't come directly from the sending servers and is not an exact copy of one was sent from them.

Basically it is considered to be an anti-spoofing technology, but it has the side-effect of causing messages that go by way of mailing lists (such as Yahoo Groups or Groups.io or Mailman, or ...) to be rejected, or sent to spam.

Yahoo and a few other email services have that turned on. To help ensure that messages from the afflicted members (yes, I meant it that way) are actually delivered to other group members Groups.io mangles the From address, so that the message is now From groups.io, but still contains the sender's email address so that you can untangle it if you wish.

Yahoo Groups' response to the same problem is to mangle everyone's address, and much more grossly.

Certainly. But I don't know if they are documented.

I can see that we can plop a jpeg in the middle of text but a PDF
appears as an attachment.
Only "image type" files can be inserted inline. I'm not sure what the full list would be, but PDF (and DOC) would be excluded.

Nope. Not in messages or wiki pages.

She also is questioning the file size requirements.
In the Photos section of your group's settings you can specify maximum resolution sizes for upload and for email - but those are limits on the number of pixels, not the size of the file.

Attachments in messages

 

Our yahoo groups stopped attaching images a long time ago and now that we are at IO -- we are so happy to have this ability back.
Are there limitations as to the size or file type allowed?
I can see that we can plop a jpeg in the middle of text but a PDF appears as an attachment.??
Is there a list of "rules" for attachments??

The problem is, at least with the popular Thunderbird email program, it is very easy to mistakenly send a privately intended message to the entire group. Especially for users who subscribe to other mailing lists that do include List-Post in the message headers. Sending a private message to the group generally has negative consequences, as you can imagine.

I'd not heard of it, but found it in RFC 2369. From the abstract:
"There are three other header fields described here which, although

I recommend posting this a suggestion to beta@, including the above citation for the benefit of other readers.

Yes, there is. To follow a hashtag, go to the home page . Under ¡°Hashtags,¡± click on ¡°Muted,¡± and then on ¡°+Follow a New Hashtag.¡± Enter the name of the hashtag (be sure to include the # sign), the group name in which you want to follow it, and the duration (¡°forever,¡± ¡°one hour,¡± etc.).

If you want to receive ONLY messages with that hashtag (which is the purpose of the "following" feature, otherwise you receive all messages), go to Subscription, Advanced Preferences and click on "Following Only."

If this is added, I think it should be a per group option.? There are groups that discourage off-list contact.? If/when the anonymous groups feature is added, this would need to be off for them.

I am quite all right with the reply to "Group" setting, as it is posted
in a group after all.
If I am replying to an individual OFF LIST, I am enduring the hardship
of cutting and pasting the address and add the OFF LIST comment.

I am not very pleased when I see the demand "Send a reply to me directly
as I do not check the group very often."

set to Group. I think I mentioned to her the reply all option and to check
she wasn't hitting that & I don't think she is but I'll get her to double

If these are replies she's posting, some email interfaces allow the user to
select "Reply to all" as the default reply method. That would likely post to

In the Message Policies section of your group's Settings page is the "Reply
To" option. It can be set to one of:
Group,
Sender,
Moderators, or
Group and Sender.

I agree with you though, this isn't likely the problem if it is just the one
member having the issue.

Is there a reason why Groups.io does not use a List-Post header in group messages? That header makes it a lot easier to reply privately to someone's From address rather than to the group Reply-to address. At least in Thunderbird... messages with a List-Post header causes Thunderbird to provide "Reply" as well as "Reply-to-List" options. Without the header the only option is replying to the group, or copy and pasting the From address.

Delivery type?

That's something each subscriber sets for him/herself. That you can see on your Subscription page. In the left column, just below the link for the group's home page.

I thought I sent the right email to have the files, photos and documents transferred but to date it shows nothing even though the red message shows the group will go live when the files are transferred. I was to believe this would take a few days but it has been a week. Any ideas?
