I did not receive an automatic acknowledgement that the initial
[email protected] invitation was received (sent about 24 hours ago) -
and no, it's not in Spam/Junk either.

Should I wait or re-send? (I do know the whole process is going to
take weeks.... my only concern is the fact that apparently we were
*supposed* to get an auto-respond.)

I would wait. But perhaps send a polite note to [email protected] telling them your Y!Group name and the fact that you did not receive the expected notice. You can cite Mark's message in Beta about it:


He knows that some people appear not to receive the notice, but may think they've simply not checked their spam folder. IIRC the Y!Groups -owner forwarding has been known to simply drop some messages, possibly because it thinks they might be spam. There's no way to know when that happens.
