I'd like to know if when I added them they each automatically get a groups.io account (which would allow them to go on the site and for example, set themselves to Digest Mode, etc) or if they'd have to create accounts? And if create, short directions to them for doing so?

Offhand, I'm guessing they'd have to proactively create an account because an account requires they have a password, and in doing a direct add we certainly don't assign passwords.

Yes, members of your group have an account with Groups.io
Their email address is their account ID.

They won't have a password. However they don't need one.?They need not go to your group homepage if they don't wish to. Many people participate happily without the need to do so.

If they wish to go to your group homepage, they can click on Email me a link to log in.?
See this GMF wiki page -?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/8901
They can set a password or not.

You might want to create a non-owner/moderator account (i.e. with another email address) and join your group. Then you can see what members see.
