I was in the middle of writing up the same thing Duane already posted, so what he said; but I wanted to add, if you don't care about preserving the description field (for album or image) in the new group, or preserve ownership, it won't be that much work, just start going folder (album) by folder, copy and paste folder name (album title), and do a mass upload of all the album images; unless if you have a ton of albums with 1-2 images in them, it shouldn't take long.? BUT, if you do want to preserve the description, then like Duane said, lots of work, as while you can still mass-upload them per album, you still have to go through each uploaded one, open its local json file, copy the description in there, edit the uploaded one and and paste it there. (along with setting the correct owner - I'm presuming members are also being moved/are moving themselves to the new group)

It would be nice if one dropped one or more images AND their associated json file(s) in the upload box GIO would accept it and use them to populate the fields, but it doesn't.? Maybe a beta suggestion? (it may already have been suggested)
