Are you trying to find your own groups? Probably not.
If you are talking about groups you wish to join - Find or Create a Group, you need to know that not all groups have opted to be in the list of publicly accessible groups. I use the search box using just one or two keywords, hoping that the group will have meaningful words in their group homepage description. That is what appears in the description on?/search?p=SubsCount,,,20,2,0,0 There was a discussion about marketing your group. I have added a few keys words to the description on one of my homepage - using white type (in advanced toolbar). They help improve the retrieving of the group. But the main thing is that it is up to groups to change that in their setting. In Admin, Settings, Privacy, Visibility. I double-checked mine to see if it would be found. A good test!
