Re: Highlighting read messages and a question on editing

PT,

- is there a way to turn on / off the highlighting of the messages
that are new / already read?
No.

Some members are reporting that this is happening for them
automatically, but for others it is not.
Highlighting for visited links is a browser feature, but Groups.io is using a style sheet to select the colors displayed for visited versus not visited links. The distinction is whether the message page is already in your browser's history or not.

E.g. I'm on Windows and Android, and there is no distinction between
messages that are new or old (read).
I hadn't noticed that, but for Chrome on Android you're right. But for Firefox on Win10 I'm seeing link coloring.

Mark still has a residual problem with the links though. The ones in the Messages list have parameters on them which prevent them from matching the messages if you visit them by using the next/previous message buttons. I convinced him once to take those parameters off of the permalinks, hopefully they are unneeded in the Messages list as well.

- in regards to editing messages that were already posted - is there
a difference between how members receive them (once or twice)
The message is emailed when posted plus once per edit.

and does it depend on whether the editing is done by a moderator or
not?
A moderator has the option to save the edit without re-mailing the message. Members don't have that option.

E.g. if my subscription is on "No Email", then by all logic, there
should be no danger of seeing the same message twice (as it does not
appear on the mailing list twice and I don't get emails in the first
place).
Correct. The re-emailing of messages when edited follows the same rules as when the message is posted; including obeying each member's subscription settings.
