Given that this problem looks like rattling on without any clear indication that a resultion will be forthcoming I have made a telephone enquiry to the
Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) which is the UK body charged with overseeing data protection.
The initial assessment was that this misrouting of emails could well be within that office's remit as misrouting of this sort could result in a breach of the regulations, and I am aware of at least one instance whereby some considerable personal embarrassment arose because what was sent as a "private" communication (to a Group Owner) finished up being visible (albeit fairly briefly) on a group.
I will get in contact with "someone else" (the person affected above) to see if he is willing to go down the ICO route.
