approving members and subgroup/naming question

I have my group settings as: Restricted Membership Members require approval before being allowed to join the group. Announcement Group Only moderators are allowed to post. Moderated All messages require approval before being sent to the group. New Users Moderated Messages from new subscribers require approval. And there is a message to be sent to members upon applying (to ask who they are, etc). Which is "Active". A member just applied to join using the?+subscribe command She got the request, replied to it I got the request as mod She then got the application form but ALSO got a "Thank you for joining " email. She shows as pending on the member list.?
So: 1) how is it that she is showing as pending AND got the email saying she has joined? 2) how do I prevent people from joining before we can vet them?
ALSO - I created a subgroup then we decided we didn't need it so deleted it today. Will the name of the group go back to " [email protected]" instead of " [email protected]"? Hasn't happened yet, will it reset itself on its own?
