It sounds like you may have invited the transfer agent to your groups.io group. You have to invite the agent to your Yahoo group. See??

However, the yahoo group had a lot of photos and things on it which I don't have time to transfer manually and don't want to lose. Is there any possibility of this being done, or would it mean losing what we now have on the io group?

This can be done. I don't believe anything will be overwritten. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Incomplete-transfer?

Be sure to UNcheck the box for "Transfer Members," along with any other group areas that you don't want to come over.
