Transfer from Yahoo never happened. Is it too late?

Back in February I went through the process of trying to transfer a group from yahoo. I made "[email protected]" a member of my group on Feb 22. By 18 March nothing had happened and, as the io group had been set up and was for 20 people I knew well, I asked them all to join individually. They did and the group has been working fine on io ever since. However, the yahoo group had a lot of photos and things on it which I don't have time to transfer manually and don't want to lose. I have in fact transfered a few things manually, but ideally I'd still like to get the stuff transferred from yahoo to io. Is there any possibility of this being done, or would it mean losing what we now have on the io group?

It sounds like you may have invited the transfer agent to your groups.io group. You have to invite the agent to your Yahoo group. See??

This can be done. I don't believe anything will be overwritten. See?/g/GroupManagersForum/wiki/Transfer-from-Yahoo-Groups#Incomplete-transfer?

Be sure to UNcheck the box for "Transfer Members," along with any other group areas that you don't want to come over.

Hope this helps,
Bruce

Trista,

I made "[email protected]" a member of my group on Feb 22. By 18

Made how?

Yahoo Groups no longer has a Direct Add feature, so as far as I know you can only invite that address, it is then up to Groups.io (Mark) to accept the invitation. Which won't happen unless you completed Step 1 of the instructions before sending the invitation.

However, the yahoo group had a lot of photos and things on it which I

To confirm what Bruce said, you can set up a new transfer from your Yahoo Group to your Groups.io group. When you set it up there are checkboxes so you can choose what to copy (Members, Messages, Files, Photos...).

Before setting up the new transfer have a look at the In Process list at the bottom of the instructions page. If your Yahoo Group is listed there that means your prior transfer attempt is stalled there. You are probably best opening that one and using the red Delete Transfer Request button to clear it out.

Note: this list will only show the prior attempt if you are logged in with the same email address that made the prior attempt. Transfer requests in process and completed are only shown to the owner who initiated the transfer, they are not shown to any other owners of the Groups.io group.

Also before setting up the new transfer you may be best off removing the transfer agent from your Yahoo Group. Then send a new invitation after you click "Start Group Transfer Process" on the set up page (Step 2 of instructions).

... or would it mean losing what we now have on the io group?
I'm fairly certain nothing in your Groups.io group would be overwritten or lost.

If you copy the members, any address that is already in your Groups.io group will be skipped.

If you copy the messages, the Y!Group messages will get new message numbers (sequentially from your Groups.io group's current highest message number) but will retain their original posting dates and will sort into your Groups.io group's Messages list by posting date.

Likewise for Photos, Files, Links, and Databases I think. I'm not actually sure what happens if the same exact name already exists in your Groups.io group. The transfer agent may put the transfer on hold and ask you what to do, more likely it would skip those items; but I don't expect that it would overwrite anything.

This is news to me, and probably also to Keith. It needs to be captured in the wiki.

I initiated it all though? So that is not correct. There is still nothing on the dropdown list. I have sent an email to the support desk anyway to see what they say.
?
Cheers Keith

If you attempted to initiate a transfer of the same group without first deleting the one the other group owner started, this could explain the problems you are having.

Hopefully Mark will be able to provide more insight.
