TinyTudes, op. 1 published!

Hello Flutenet friends,

As some of you know, particularly those of you who are my Facebook friends, I have composed four etudes for flute.? I now have them available to purchase (PDF download) at??and?.

If you like these, stay tuned!? I have more in the works which should be out before too much longer.

Thanks everyone, and happy 2024!

Hi Leonard. Are they available in an audio format? Can you download them for free? Just asking. I can't read music at all, and braille music is really hard. I am wondering if I can find these on YouTube and listen to them. I've been playing the flute for 22 years, and I learned everything by ear. I'm mostly self taught, but I did take lessons, from the same woman that taught me piano for 15 years.?

??? Hi Amanda,

??? No, this is just the sheet music.? They are little pieces, but very challenging and very interesting, if I say so myself!? I started having physical problems a few years ago, which forced me to retire from professional playing.? I'm still hoping that I might be able to regain a level of playing ability that would allow me to record these pieces myself, but that has yet to be seen.

??? Of course, I would love to hear other players perform or record these, too.? I've been a flutist and a flute maker for many years, but the composing is quite a new thing in the scheme of things!

??? Best to you,

??? Lenny

Hi Leonard. What types of flutes do you make? I have a couple of the concert flutes, a Jupiter flute, and my main flute, which is an MIO. They neat. I also have an ocarina, but it's a very oddly shaped one. It looks something like a sweet potato, and has a fipple mouthpiece as well. I also play the recorder. I have been playing the flute for 22 years do you still make flutes, or did you have to retire? I also have a set of panpipes. I don't play the ocarina or the panpipes as much as my flutes and my recorders. It's very interesting how many members of the Flute family they're actually are. There are so many members of the Flute family, that I can't even begin to count them all, let alone pronounce them. Some of them are unpronounceable.?

??? ??? Dear Amanda and all Flutenuts!

??? ??? I make concert flutes in precious metals.? I have a unique design that many here on Flutenet are familiar with.? It has square tone holes.? That's all the holes that the keys open and close.? (You probably knew that, but some people think "tone hole" mean the embouchure hole, which is not correct.)? These are professional level flutes.? I've mostly made concert flutes, but I've also made a couple of alto flutes, and one piccolo.

??? ??? I'm semi-retired.? I can't really do much of the main work because of problems with my back and some other things, but I still make pads for the square-holed flutes, since nobody else makes those.

??? ??? Well, we'll be seeing you!? (So to speak.)

??? ??? Best to all,

??? ??? Lenny

Hi Lenny. Amanda here. I just got done playing flute with a friend of mine who plays violin. I also played the recorder a little bit as well. I took a fall, but I'm OK. I caught my foot on a chair on the back porch, the wrong way, and took a small tumble. I'm OK though. My recorder, Gabrielle, who is an angel recorder is fine too. She took a pretty hard hit, but I'm surprised she still plays. Anyway, my godmother asked me if the flute hurts my lip. I said not at all. She thought it did, but it doesn't. I have a small Fife, and the Fife has a thumb hole that is sharp around the edges. I play this instrument, but afterwards, my thumb has a small blister. Do you know of a way to file that thumb hole down a little? It's sharp around the edges.?

?? ?? ? Hi Amanda,

??? ??? Doing anything can cause pain if you do it too much or too long, or if you do it improperly.? As you say, the flute doesn't hurt your lip.? That's good.? It means that you are not using too much pressure against your lip or chin.?

??? ?? About the thumb hole on your fife, I'm afraid I can't say what can be done about the sharp edges without seeing it myself.? And in any case, I would advise you against trying to do anything to it yourself.? For someone who has done any sort of repair or maintenance of wind instruments, it should be a very easy fix with a little piece of extremely fine sandpaper wrapped around the end of a tiny stick or file.? I wouldn't use a file directly on the hole.? That could cause irreversible damage.

??? ??? I don't know if you have someone who looks after the repair and maintenance of your flute, but I would leave it to someone like that to help you with the fife.

??? ??? I'm awfully glad your fall wasn't worse!? (For you or Gabrielle.) ?

??? ??? Bye for now,

??? ??? Lenny

I know. I gave my friend Cynthia, who plays the violin a little bit of a heart attack though, but everything turned out OK. I don't really play the Fife that much, but I have it just in case I wanna play it some. I mostly concentrate on the flute on the recorder. Anyhow, at work at the moment. Things are going well though. Gabrielle is my angel recorder, and Hazel is my main concert flute. My spare flute, which is a Jupiter, is called Rosita.?
