Breast Cancer... Wound Healing

Ronald Muscella

开云体育

All,
My friend who has breast cancer, had radiation done last week.
Doctors said the skin area will eventually turn red/pink and may fester.
She wanted to know is there anything that can be eventually apply to the area,? that is a natural remedy....she wants to avoid all the allopathic creams they will suggest.
I remember on the site here, many months ago, people had made suggestions along those lines.
Would anyone know of anything that she could use?
Thank you,
Ron Muscella

Hi Ron,?

If it is still an open wound, she may clean it with hydrogen peroxide daily and then cover with sterile dressing until new skin grows.?

I use castor oil on my surgery scar. Just massage on thinly and gently, not as a hot pad. That is after Rahel posted a link about benefit of castor oil. When I go to sauna, I will put a little more on thinking that the heat may help penetration. This is not a recommendation from my doctor(s) but I feel good about it. Just my intuition.

Best wishes to your friend.
Hugs, Annei

Hi Ron
I escaped most of the negative affects of radiation (on my neck) with daily application of aloe vera gel, and vitamin E. Hope it has similar benefis for your friend.
Best wishes

It depends skin to skin how long it will take the radiation area to present the same symptoms of sun burned skin. It took me 4-5 weeks.

The use of creams is to hydrate back the skin, I used what doctors recommended and after awhile I began using regular cosmetic creams.?

She could search Weleda's creams that are more natural.

Not using anything may imply further injuring the skin.

If the burn has been done, she can apply emu oil to speed up the healing.

Hi Ron,

I had 30 rounds of radiation for breast cancer.? The doctor prescribed a cream to use if I had itching or raw patches and I barely needed to use it.

What I did use was Burt's Bees Aloe & Linden Flower After Sun Soother.? I put that on immediately after my treatments and then before bed.? I had minimal redness and the technicians were quick surprised that I did not burn or have any wounds other than 2 very minor ones right at the end of treatment which cleared up within a couple of days.

The Burt's Bees product is available in most drug stores and is water soluble and has a pleasant scent.? I found it to be a very soothing light lotion.

Wishing your friend great results and best health.

Beverly

Many Colon Cancer patients are vit D insufficient or deficient, maybe not you, down there in Kenya with allot of sunshine, but if you measure 25 OH-D you'll? know for sure.
And vit D3 level is very relevant for you ( & most on this list ).

Oh, this is so true.? I live in No. CA which is considered a Mediterranean equivalent in climate.? In fact, I am of Italian heritage with olive complexion.? At 63 yo, I am a typical native CA sunworshipper and have been my entire life.? Nevertheless, I was tested for Vit D last year and came up severely deficient.? I, too, am a Stage IV colorectal cancer survivor and what triggered this test was my dx of full osteoporosis.? I'm sure that if not directly causative (which could certainly be the case), the D deficiency contributed to both illnesses.? So, my advice is:? No matter the climate where you live or your ethnic background, GET TESTED!!!

Best,
Denise

A problem in getting tested for Vitamin D is that Medicare will only pay for ONE vitamin D test in a lifetime, unless there is a specific reason for doing so. ??I guess they assume if your Vitamin D is good when you are 65, it will always be good.? (Or is it that fixing a low Vitamin D level doesn’t require expensive drugs or procedures?)

?

We use to get a much better price (they frequently have sales).? There is a LabCorp person at our doctor’s office, and she will do our Walkinlab testing.? ?We get tested every year – it’s worth paying about $50 for each of us.

You can also purchase a simple home test on Amazon.com for about $85 - a little more expensive, but convenient if you don't live near a walk in lab.

Denise, Walkinlab is a an online place where you purchase the tests you want.?? They give you an order which you print and take to any Labcorp or Quest place.? ?Our nearest town has about 4 Labcorp facilities, or we can use the Labcorp person at out doctors.?? The results are online, usually the next day.

There are other online places similar to Walkinlab.

That's great, Linda.? Unfortunately, we only have Labcorp in my area and they are notoriously inaccurate here.? In fact, I know "insider" stories from people who work there and the negligent handling of specimens is as bad as it gets.? To the point where they make up test results in some cases rather than process the samples.? I'm sure that's not the case in every area, but here, it's a fact.

Best,
Denise
